[Suho] Dinner

I’m really sorry hunny, but my flight got cancelled today. There’s a terrible blizzard going on here in L.A and the snow is so think already. I’ll try to go home before Christmas ends, arasso?”

“Yeah mom,” You mumbled as you fiddled with the hem of your sweater. You kind of felt disappointed, but you really can’t blame her. She obviously wanted to go back to Korea and spend Christmas with you, but nature just had to be this freakin antagonist and keep that from happening.

“Oh, and since I knew you’d be all alone on Christmas Eve, I wanted you to at least have some company and invited Suho to come over to have dinner with you.”

You froze and abruptly sat up on the couch. “What? Mum? What Suho?”

You heard her delightfully chuckle at your remark. “He’s the son of a family friend, hunny. Don’t worry, he’s a really good kid.”

“Mum! Do you really expect me to spend Christmas with a total stranger?! It’s you and Dad that I want to be here! Not that Suho-guy!”

“Come on ____, let me make it up to you just this once. I’m sure you’ll like him. He’s supposed to be there by...,” you could imagine her take a second to squint at her wristwatch. “Ah, ten o’clock. Must be a few more minutes there in Korea.”

A loud ringing suddenly echoed in the house. Someone’s at the door.

“Oh quick! Quick huny! That must be him! I’m gonna hang up now!”

“Wait, mum!”

“Be good to him ok? Love ya!”

~Beep ~Beep~

You looked at the screen and sighed. The doorbell rang once again, snapping you out of your loving moment, and triggering your death glare. You glanced up at the wall clock. Exactly ten o’clock.

Ok, he’s punctual. You’ll give him that.

Taking in a deep breath, you tried to hold back you death glare and put on some fake welcoming eyes. You opened the door. You saw this clear-skinned perfectly handsome young man.

“Hi,” he breathed, smoke coming out of his mouth. It must be so cold outside. “Is this Mrs. Yoo’s house?”

You gave him a long, scrutinizing look as you spoke. Well, he looks... presentable. Though he was in casual clothes, he still seemed like a rich businessman’s son or something. Compared to your oversized sweater and spongebob patterned shorts he looked much more human. “Um, yeah. You must be Suho.”

“Oh, so you’re Yoo ____?”

“Technically, yes.” You mumbled as you gave way for him. Smiling brightly, he bowed 90 degrees and hurried to remove his shoes. He placed it on the shoe rack and then looked at you as if you’re some museum display or something.

“Um...”

“Oh, yes, nice meeting you, ___-sshi. I’m Kim Suho.” He bowed once again as he shook your hand.

”Since we’re supposed to become close anyway, can we just drop the honorifics? I’m not used to it...”

“Oh, ok... ___...” He scratched his head. You forced and motioned for him to sit on the table while you went to grab him a cup of hot chocolate.

“So, Suho, what made you accept Mum’s invitation?”

“My parents won’t be able to celebrate with me as well. I didn’t want to be alone as well so why not? At least we can accompany each other.”

You tried your best not to give him a disgusted look. Um Suho IDK if you’re just innocent or I just have a dirty mind, but I think that sounded wrong. You shook the idea off your head and just concentrated on the hot chocolate you handed out to him. He took a big gulp and sighed contentedly.

“You make delicious chocolate,” He beamed and scanned the fruit salad, pasta, lasagna, and basted turkey all laid out on the table. “And I suppose you cook well too.”

“But they’ll only go to waste. I cooked a heck lot when there’s no one to eat it.” You slumped on a seat and rested your chin on your arms. You cooked a plentiful meal because it was supposed to be for special ones, but since they’re not here, then suppose the meal isn’t that special anymore. You sighed heavily and closed your eyes, feeling the disappointment wash over you once again.

“What waste? That’s what I’m here for, right?” You heard Suho scoot his seat closer, and you opened your eyes to see him laying his chin on his arms as well. “This is supposed to be a secret but... I can eat a whole house, to be honest.”

You gave him a weird stare for a few seconds, before eventually laughed. “My mom’s right. I think you’re an okay person.”

“Why? Did you expect me to be a posh brat or something?” He wiggled his eyebrows, making you laugh once again. “That’s why I miss my family. I can be myself and not act all businesslike. I really feel sorry they can’t come, but at least we have each other.”

Smiling, he picked up the whole bowl of fruit salad and two smaller plates. He placed it on the living room’s center table and inserted a CD in the DVD player, grabbing the remote in the process. He was acting like he owned the house but strangely, it made you feel like you could warm up to him a lot quicker than if he acted all posh and refined. Smiling, you grabbed two spoons and flopped beside him on the couch.

“Christmas movie marathon?”

“Mhm,” he scooped a huge amount of salad, never taking his eyes off the screen. You second the motion and even laid your little socked feet over the table. Now this is what you call a special Christmas Eve.

“What movie shall we watch first?”

“Well, I have Peter the Christmas Unicorn.”

You pfft-ed and looked at him with sparkling eyes. “Well, I can work with that. I love unicorns.”

As the movie went on, you couldn’t help but steal glances at Suho every now and then. It was quite cute how he laughed at the little things, and would look at you with those sparkling eyes as if he was having a really good time. By the middle of the movie, the big clock on the living room chimed, indicating that it was already midnight.

“Well, I guess it’s Merry Christmas.” You said nonchalantly, scooping another spoonful of fruit salad. He chuckled at your overwhelming enthusiasm (note sarcasm) before shifting around to feel his pockets for something. Then he took out this small pink box.

“Your mom’s invitation was kind of a short notice, so I didn’t really know what gift to get you... but I hope this’ll suffice.” He removed the lid and revealed this shiny silver ring. Eyes widening, you leaned closer to study it. It was rather simple with just a tiny hexagon design at the center, but to your eyes, it was perfect.

“Is it ok?” Suho hesitantly asked.

“Are you kidding?!!” You hopped up the couch, making him flinch in shock. “This is perfect! Gosh, I don’t even have any gift for you! I’m such a terrible human being.”

You groaned and covered your face with your hands. You heard Suho chuckle, and he pried your left hand away from your face. He held your pinky finger, and gently placed the small ring around it.

“I want to call this... the promise ring.” His eyes sparkled in amusement.

“Promise ring.” You repeated, brows lifting. He nodded.

“From now on, whenever you make a promise, it will be wrapped around your pinky, secured by this ring, so you’ll have to stay true to that promise no matter what.”

“That sounds cheesy, but ok. I can work with that.” You smiled, making him laugh. “I’ll try buying a gift for you tomorrow.”

“No, that won’t be necessary.” He leaned closer and grabbed your hand again. “You can make your first promise for me, though.”

“Ok. So what do you want me to promise?” He pretended to stroke his imaginary beard, making you laugh and roll your eyes. “How about, ‘I promise to be Suho’s loyal friend from now on.’?”

“I promise to be Suho’s loyal friend from now on.” You repeated confidently, and hooked your left pinky with his. His eyes sparkled as he laughed. At that moment, you felt this fluttery feeling in your chest. As if you felt so comfortable with him already.

“Now you have to stay true to that promise.” He narrowed his eyes, and you patted his shoulder, laughing.

“Yeah, I promise.” You swung your legs over the center table again to return to watching the movie. This time, though, you hooked your arms with Suho. Honestly speaking, you felt more comfortable that way, than when you were just seating beside each other earlier.

“Merry Christmas, ___.” Suho whispered and patted your head. You chuckled and laid your head on his shoulder.

“Merry Christmas, Suho.”
