Hope
In the darkest hour, in the darkest night
In this world where wrong is right
In those flimsy houses of the poor
Where even the day doesn't seem bright
There was a smile, a ray of light
The boy dreamed, of becoming rich overnight
To have a mansion, and fly a Wakandan kite
To have so big a balance, that his budget needn't be tight
To live in such a state, where everything is alright
Look around him
You see that his state is grim
Mother crying, and father limped
Roof leaking, and the light's dimmed
Debtors calling, and his salary's trimmed
The house is searched, and the papers are skimmed
The father is gone, and the mother is still
As time goes by, they become more destitute
No one to help them, so they don't pay gratitude
The boy abandons God, and the mother thinks its attitude
The boy abandons love, and the mother thinks its fear of servitude
The boy abandons life, and he hopes to kill himself in solitude
But something in him rises
That makes him throw the knife away
What made him do that, wonder the one who despises
Him, his way of life and tiny hut of hay
"It is hope sir", he replies
To the debtor's lackey who espies
Him, each penny that he earns, he buys
Or actually takes away, that was just a lie
What hope do you have of? he asks
The boy tells of his desires unmasked
Why do you have such hope in this situation? he asks
It is the law of nature, to hope for what one does not have
He says, opening an empty cask
How can you have such hope? he again asks
It helps me live, he said, and that's all I asked.
