Isabella is known for having notoriously bad luck, it's almost a special talent of her's by now. Not only had she been thrown back in time, in some alternate universe, but she'd managed to fall straight into the beginning of some sort of intergalactic war. Thanos is the name Bruce gives him, some mad Titan from a planet that isn't their's who wants to wipe out half of life. He'd already taken out almost the entirety of Asgard (a planet that she had read about a bit in her research) including Thor Odinson as well apparently.
If a literal God can't defeat this guy, who is to say anybody on Earth could do it.
"He's a plague, Tony. He invades planets, he takes what he wants, he wipes out half the population. He sent Loki, the attack on New York, that's him!" Bruce explains somewhat urgently, his eyes deep with both fear and frustration.
"What's our timeline?" Tony replies, eyes now moving away from the floor to look at his friend.
"No telling. He has the Power and Space Stones, that already makes him the strongest creature in the whole universe! If he gets his hands, on all six Stones, Tony..." Bruce trails off anxiously, his breaths a little deeper than before.
"He can destroy life on a scale hither to undreamt of," Doctor Strange interjects, ignoring the way Tony scoffs at his words.
Isabella watches as the man leans against what appears to be some type of cauldron, acting as if it might not be of importance. "Did you seriously just say 'hither to undreamt of?'" Tony questions.
"Are you seriously leaning on the Cauldron of the Cosmos?"
"Is that what this is?"
The Doctor's cloak smacks Tony's arm and Isabella won't lie, it lightens her mood even if it's just for a second.
"I'm going to allow that. If Thanos needs all six, why don't we just stick this one down the garbage disposal?" Tony asks.
"I feel like that's probably not how it works. Something that powerful could not possibly be that fragile," Isabella replies quietly, looking between the two men who seem to have already created some sort of underlying tension.
"The child is right —" Strange starts.
"I'm like twenty years old," Isabella scoffs.
"We swore an oath to protect the Time Stone. With our lives," Wong, the man who had been alongside Strange, adds.
"And I swore off dairy, but then, Ben & Jerry's named a flavor after me, so—"
"Stark Raving Hazelnuts,"
"You have an ice cream flavor named after you? And you didn't mention it? That's literally the coolest thing I've learnt about you since being here," Isabella speaks, a smile on her face. Tony, to his credit, takes the words in jest and rolls his eyes. "Man, I'd love to have one named after me,"
"Uh, Tony? Any explanation on who this is?"
Isabella turns to Bruce, the smile still on her face. "Isabella Stacy, part-time time traveller,"
"Time traveller? Tony—"
"The kid stumbled into our world through one of this guy's portals and we haven't been able to send her back yet. Apparently not her first time visiting, we can figure all that out later," Tony says with a wave of his hand.
"Yeah, so back to the ice-cream–" Isabella starts.
"A Hunka-Hulka Burning Fudge is our favorite," Wong humors her attempt at swaying the conversation, Strange nodding along with him before giving Isabella another quick glance.
"That's a thing?" Bruce asks.
"Whatever. Point is things change," Tony says.
"Our oath to protect the Time Stone cannot change. This Stone may be the best chance we have against Thanos,"
"And still conversely, it may also be his best chance against us,"
"Well, if we don't do our jobs,"
"What is your job exactly, besides making balloon animals?"
"Protecting your reality, douchebag,"
Isabella rolls her eyes and frowns, her arms tingling slightly. That can't be good. The brunette leaves the group of men to converse, walking over to one of the many windows and looks outside, her eyes surveying the streets for any sign of trouble.
"Vision is out there somewhere with the Mind Stone, and we have to find him now," Bruce's voice rings out behind her but her heart rate has accelerated so rapidly that she the harsh beats are almost all that she can hear.
Isabella presses her hand to the glass and taps it gently, the window cracking slightly under her finger tip. She knows exactly what that means, her body has a habit of building up her magic to the point where it becomes incredibly strong, so much so that things like this happen. The girl has found it's often in response to spikes in adrenaline or anxiety, both of which are swirling about within her right now.
"Steve Rogers,"
That's all that she manages to catch. Tony and Steve aren't on great terms, that much she does know. It's almost as if Thanos had decided to wait until Earth's defense had crumbled before returning, those who had protected it now a complete shambles.
"Tony," Isabella finds herself breathing out his name desperately, the cracks in the glass only growing with each passing moment.
The man looks over at her, then the glass, before walking over. "What's wrong?"
"Something's here. Something bad,"
Doctor Strange has joined them, taking note of what she's done in those few minutes they'd diverted their attention away, being somewhat cautious of the girl. Then there is a scream from outside and Isabella is rushing off before anybody can even think of stopping her, ignoring the call of her name as she does. Looking up at the sky, she stops short, a shuttered breath leaving her lips.
"Fuck," Isabella swears, watching as the large metal ring begins to descend from the sky, obliviously Spacecrafts of some kind. They'd really don't have much time, that's obvious to her.
Cars begins to crash around her, Tony helping people out where he can. Isabella rushes about until she comes across one where the ship is. Eventually she stops in front of it, her body shaking at the amount of energy stored up within it.
The brunette can feel the presence of Tony and the others behind her, all of them watching as the two beings exit the ship. They're what Isabella had always imagined aliens to look like, not quite human but sharing a few of the qualities.
"Hear me, and rejoice. You are about to die at the hands of the Children of Thanos. Be thankful, that your meaningless lives are now contributing to—" The smaller one begins, more than likely the higher ranking of the two.
"I'm sorry, Earth is closed today. You better pack it up and get outta here," Tony yells but there's a small quiver in his voice.
"Stone keeper, does this chattering animal speak for you?"
Isabella feels Tony's hand on her shoulder and looks at him, the man gesturing for her to move back slightly so that she's standing with the rest of them. Nodding, she moves to stand beside him instead, taking slight comfort in his presence.
"Certainly not, I speak for myself. But you're trespassing in this city and on this planet," Strange retorts, narrowing his eyes.
"It means get lost Squidward!" Tony adds in.
"He exhausts me. Bring me the Stone,"
Isabella can hear Tony conversing quietly with Bruce about his 'other side' coming out but her gaze remains ahead. The smaller of the two has caught her gaze, eyes narrowed as he studies her. She flashes her eyes at him, almost as if she's trying to convince him and herself that she's a threat.
"Dude, you're embarrassing me in front of the wizard," Tony mumbles to Bruce.
They have no more time to argue about anything because the larger of the two aliens begins to move towards them. Isabella manages to throw her hands up just in time, sending him flying backwards but he's up again real quick. The next time it's Strange that sends him flying.
Isabella turns to look at Tony who now has his Iron-Man suit on but he's gone within seconds. The other creature has thrown him away just before turning his attention to where Doctor Strange is, set on getting the stupid stone.
The girl doesn't even think twice about conjuring up a small ball of her magic, hurling it at the alien's head. He manages to dodge just in time, lifting up a discarded street sign and aiming it at her. Her hands move on their own accord, making a shield of her own to block the attack.
Strange has since used one of his portals to send Bruce away, the man unable to turn into Hulk in that moments and therefore probably more of a liability than a help. Tony has also since returned, joining in on the action.
"Gotta get that stone outta here, now," Tony says to Strange.
"It stays with me,"
"Exactly. Bye,"
Tony flies off, perhaps to cause a distraction, and Isabella thinks about following. However, she knows it probably best that she stays with Strange, provide extra protection for the stone.
Isabella rolls out of the way as a brick is thrown at her, the brunette using her power to push it back at him with just as much force. He's able to easily break it though, a mere swipe of his hand and the brick is reduced to dust.
"Go help Stark!" Strange yells out to the girl, Wong quickly creating a portal for her to step through. She does as instructed, the two of them must be confident in their ability to stop him.
Isabella steps out and holds her hand up before scrunching his hand into a fist, the large creature faltering just before it is able to hit Tony. She can feel it fighting against her, trying to break free of the control she has over him, and the slightest flinch from her is enough to do so. She watches in horror as he swings his arm but sighs in relief when it stops short.
Peter Parker is a welcome addition at the moment, the teenager managing to stop the attack. Unfortunately for him, within moments he is being launched away from them due to the creature's immense power. This she can stop — the tendrils of purple flowing from her fingertips and grabbing onto the boy, stopping him from suffering a harsh landing.
"Isabella?" The boy questions as she gently guides him to stand in front of her. "Thanks,"
"No problem," Isabella replies.
He opens his mouth to say something further when Strange goes flying over their heads, with his magical cloak. "Shit. You'd probably be faster, he has one of the stones,"
"The stones?" Peter questions before shaking his head. "Never mind. I'll get him,"
Peter uses his webs to try and catch up to him, leaving the girl to stand on her lonesome. Isabella turns and repeats the same action as earlier, except this time her concentration is a lot better. Wong appears behind the alien, seeing that he's been subdued by the young witch, and opens a portal to what looks like the middle of nowhere. The girl thrusts her hand forward and sends him flying through, Wong closing it up just in time.
"Wong you're invited to my wedding!" Tony exclaims just as he starts to fly away.
"What about me!?" Isabella calls back.
She doesn't get a response, he's gone within seconds. The girl is left with the two men that she hardly knows and awkwardly stands there. "So I'm just going to—"
Isabella then cuts herself off and shrugs, closing her eyes and concentrating the best she can. If she's lucky it'll work properly, if not she might end up in Antarctica or something.
"What are you—"
Then she's gone.
