Chapter Two

"You're kidding, right?" Colby asked.

"Why else would I be drinking barefoot in a hotel bar?" Rebecca asked jokingly.

Colby let out a small laugh before getting back on subject.

"But arranged marriage.. That's still a thing?" Colby asked.

"Unfortunately.." Rebecca said as she took a sip of her scotch.

Colby examined her for a moment, realizing that there was much more to Rebecca than the fancy clothes she was wearing.

"Now it's your turn, cowboy. Tell me why you're staying at a five-star hotel when you look you can probably only afford a 3-star. You win the lottery or something?" Rebecca asked.

Colby let out a small laugh, not believing what he was hearing. Rebecca quickly realized she may have just offended the kind boy beside her.

"Oh my gosh, I am so sorry! She exclaimed.

"No, it's okay." Colby tried to assure her.

"I'm really much more.. diplomatic." Rebecca continued to apologize. "This whole honesty thing is kind of taking over me."

"Honestly, it's okay." Colby told her. "I always appreciate honesty. Hell, that's the difference between a 3-star hotel and a place like this.. people tend to be more truthful and honest to themselves."

Rebecca thought over what he was telling her.

"You know.. those hotel's I can barely afford." Colby joked.

Rebecca now let out a small laugh herself, not believing how down to earth Colby was. Colby himself was starting to realize he was way out of his league with this girl. In that moment, the two new acquaintances both felt something they had never felt before. Neither knowing what it was, they assumed it was the alcohol.

"Well.. It was nice talking to you, Colby.. But I should probably get going." Rebecca said suddenly.

"Go? Already?" Colby asked.

"This was nice but my father probably already has a search party on it's way for me. It's best I get back home." Rebecca told him.

Colby couldn't hide the disappointment in his eyes as Rebecca began putting her shoes back on.

"Wait. Can I at least get your number?" Colby asked rather nervously.

Rebecca looked at him for a moment and took a deep breath.

"Trust me, I am not someone you want to get close to. You have no idea who I am." Rebecca tried to tell him.

"Well maybe I want to find out." Colby said with confidence.

Rebecca's eyes we caught by Colby's as his face filled with hopefulness. For a slight moment she wanted to give in, she wanted to be human, she wanted to choose something for herself. But Colby's innocence stopped her. He was too good of a person to get sucked into Rebecca's disastrous life.

"Colby.." Rebecca began to say as she leaned forward, bringing her lips to his ear and whispered. "If my father knew you were even speaking to me, he would kill you."

Colby's eyes filled with fear as he looked at Rebecca in disbelief. She gave an apologetic look before turning and walking towards the hotel exit. Colby continued to sit there in shock he watched Rebecca walk out of the hotel. Suddenly, without thinking, Colby got up and ran after her. Not thinking about the consequences, he made his way outside into the crowded Dublin street. Rebecca was gone. Colby looked all around but the mysterious woman he'd just met had vanished into thin air.

It was only a few hours later when Rebecca arrived back home. Her driver, Heyman, opened the car door for her as she got out. Mr. Quin could be seen observing his daughter from the window of his office as she made her way inside.

"Bring her up to me immediately." Mr. Quinn told one of his men.

Rebecca hadn't been inside fore merely a five minutes when she saw one of her father's men head down the hallway with his eyes set on her.

"Don't even think about grabbing me. I can walk for myself." Rebecca said rather boldly, still in a bit of a rebellious mood.

As she made her way down the hall, Rebecca couldn't help but remember her conversations with Colby at the hotel bar. For the first time in her entire life she was actually thinking about what she wanted rather than what her father wanted.

"I'm expecting you to have an exceptional explanation for your reckless actions this afternoon." Rebecca's father, Brian Quin, said with frustration.

Rebecca hesitated for a moment as a silence filled the room. It was only her and her father but the silence made the room feel so full it was suffocating her.

"Well go on, explain yourself!" Mr. Quin raised his voice.

She took a deep breath and looked down at the ground, struggling to find the courage to stand up to her father. Then suddenly, she spoke up.

"I don't want to marry Drew." Rebecca told him.

Mr. Quin practically froze in disbelief. After staring at his daughter in shock he let out a laugh to himself.

"You didn't want to?" He asked as he continued to laugh.

The fact that Rebecca's father wasn't taking her serisously was only making her angry.

"When I marry I want it to be for love.. Not.. whatever this is." Rebecca added.

Her father now brought his somber eyes to look at her.

"What is all this talk about what you want? Nothing is about what you want, dear. This is all about what we need. This is for us, for business." He tried to explain to her. "Do you have any idea what a partnership with Drew and his family could do for us? We wouldn't just be running Ireland, we would be well on our way to controlling all of Europe."

Rebecca furrowed her eyebrows at her father, almost tearing up as she struggled to understand why he didn't care about what she wanted.

"This thing with Drew.. It's not about how you feel about each other. It was a business deal, Becks. Nothing more. There was no need to complicate it." Mr. Quin told her.

Rebecca felt her heart grow heavy as the empty room weighed her down.

"I've already spoke with Drew. You will meet with him again tomorrow to clean up this mess you've made for us." Her father said.

Rebecca was at a loss for words. There were so many things she wanted to say, so many things she wanted to tell her father but she couldn't do it. She couldn't find the courage to fight for herself.

The next morning, Colby found himself walking down the streets of Dublin on his way back to the hotel. After spending the morning wandering around to different shops, he found himself thinking about home. He couldn't help but wonder what his best friend was doing, what his mother was doing.. He missed them, he missed his hometown. Despite being a little homesick, Colby really was enjoying his trip so far.

Down the street, Rebecca was in the same situation she had found herself in the day before. She sat in the back of a car as her driver, Paul, drove her towards the hotel for another meeting with Drew. She hadn't recognized Colby walking along the sidewalk as they passed by. Seth however, quickly took notice of the familiar black car from yesterday. He wasn't sure that it was her but just seeing the car light up his face. The sound of motorcycles running could be heard in the near distance as Paul stopped just ahead for traffic to go by. Rebecca casually pulled a small mirror out of her purse and began reapplying her red lipstick. Colby, who had been watching the black car for a moment, had gotten an unsettling feeling in his stomach when he realized the car Paul had stopped for seemed to have been creating a diversion. He dropped his coffee when he spotted on of the men on the bikes with a gun. Without thinking he sprinted towards the car as bystanders screamed for help and ran in the opposite direction. One of the men on the bike pointed his gun at the car and fired. Rebecca jumped in fright as Paul was his with a bullet. Colby struck the man on the bike in the back of the head, instantly knocking the gun out of his hand. Rebecca looked out the window in what to her felt like slow motion. She watched as Colby shot the man mercilessly twice in the chest. Colby looked into the car and met his eye with Rebecca's. It was clear in that moment that neither of them had been quite honest about who they really were. With his eyes still on Becky, Colby casually aimed the gun to the other side of the car and shot the other man in the head.

"Who the hell are you?" Rebecca asked as she got out of the back of the car.

Colby let out a small smirk to himself and got on the running motorcycle.

"I should be asking you the same thing." He told her with an inviting nod.

Rebecca felt a rush come over her as she got on the back of the motorcycle. Colby sped off with Rebecca holding onto him tight as they left a path of dead bodies behind them.
