Chapter Three: The New Kid

The morning was beautiful. The raw rays of sunshine filtered through the curtains, and fell on the lump on the bed, covered by a bright yellow blanket. A head of blonde curls stuck out of the wrong end of the bed, while a tan foot rested on the pillow.

Then suddenly...

 RINGGGGGGGGGGG

Will Solace nearly jumped out of his skin. His crazy alarm continued to screech. Honestly, that thing was the literal embodiment of a banshee.

He considered smashing it, or sending it flying out of the window, perhaps? But thoughts of sweet revenge fled his mind as he noticed the time.

 Oh... crap.

He... must've hit the snooze button at least five times.

Conclusion: he was late.

He jumped out of bed, and dashed to the bathroom. He cleaned himself up, and got dressed in a pair of cargo shorts and yellow hoodie. He loved yellow! He even had a pair of flippers shaped like yellow ducklings—okay... ahem... forget he said that... He most certainly does not own such childish stuff.

Stuffing his books into his bag, he ran down the staircase, all while hopping on one foot as he tried to put on his second shoe. Then he scampered to the kitchen, where his parents were sitting at the kitchen table, enjoying pancakes, watching the news, which once again displayed the chase he had with Ghost king last night.

That's right! Will Solace was Sunshot!

Pssst! Keep it a secret okay? His parents didn't know! Pinky promise you won't tell!

"That Ghost king," his mother, Naomi started, eyeing Will with amusement as he started wolfing down a few pancakes, "confuses me."

Apollo nodded in agreement.

"What do you mean, mom?" Will questioned between mouthfuls.

Naomi shrugged; his father answered for her: "What your mom means, Will, is that he might not be a villain."

Will nearly choked. "What? Of course he is!"

Naomi raised an eyebrow at her son. "And what makes you say that?"

"Well, he breaks into other people's houses! For all we know, Mom, he could be heading here next!"

Apollo grunted, "But there have been no reports about him actually causing any harm right?"

"So what, Dad? You think he's some guy just going out for night strolls?" Will inquired. Okay, maybe he was being a little snippy, but he was sleepy; Ghost king always tired him out. But his parents were unintentionally questioning the purpose of Will's life!

Of course the Ghost king is a bad guy! He's a VILLAIN! For god's sake!

Apollo turned up his palms in the universal gesture of 'I come in peace.' "Geez, Will! You're grumpy today! Didn't sleep well?"

Will, as if on cue, yawned. "Sorry dad, 'm a little sleepy."

Apollo chuckled languidly as Will downed his glass of orange juice in one go and got up. The next thing he knew, he was out of the door, throwing a loud goodbye over his shoulder at his parents, blonde curls bouncing with every step.

He barely made it to school, getting through the gate just as the bell rang.

"Yo, Will!" a familiar voice called.

Will turned around and saw his friends, Lou Ellen and Cecil, fighting their way through the sea of students trying to avoid being late for their classes. Will waved at them and walked over.

"Saw you on news, btw," Lou Ellen said, as the three of them made their way to their first class.

Ah yes. Lou Ellen and Cecil, his best friends, were the ONLY ones who knew of Will's secret identity and powers.

"Did you have any luck this time?" Cecil asked, always the one interested in things that were not relevant to him.

"Catching him?" Will sighed, "No. That guy makes professional getaways."

Making their way through the homeroom door just as Mr. Brunner was about to start the lesson. Mr.Brunner was quite a nice person and only gave them a pointed raise of his eyebrows as they took their seats.

He waited until everyone was settled before calling for silence.

"Good morning, everyone!"

"Good morning, Mr. Brunner!" the class chorused.

"Class, we have a new student today!"

Will perked up. Ohhh new kid!

Mr. Brunner continued, smiling warmly, "I hope you all will treat him as one of your own. He used to go to LongIsland High, but as you all know, it was shut down recently."

It was true, LongIsland High had been a steadily improving school, until they didn't have enough privileges to fund the school, thus it had to be shut down.

"Nico, why don't you come here and say a few words?" Mr. Brunner was gazing at a kid by the window in the second row, diagonally across from where Will was sitting.

"Nico" got up and quietly walked to the front of the class. He was slender, and his actions were oddly graceful, princely. His footsteps hardly made any sound on the tiles.

And when he turned to face the class, Will's breath may or may not have hitched.

One thought echoed throughout his head: Oh. My. God.

Nico had pale skin, eyes like endless pools of black ink, and raven hair brushing the nape of his neck. His features were delicate, jawline sharp, eyelashes long, cheekbones high.

He was beautiful.

Suddenly realizing he was staring quite openly, he blushed, lowering his gaze, Cecil snorted beside him, and Will suddenly had a VERY compelling desire to swat him upside the head.

But many students had reactions similar to his own, so hopefully, Will did not stand out as he ogled the new boy.

Nico looked slightly nervous, his face was impassive, akin to white jade, flawless and cold, but his slender fingers kept clenching and unclenching.

NOT that Will was looking THAT attentively at him to notice the small action... * cough cough * (A/N: Sure Will, whatever helps you sleep at night.)

"Um, hi, everyone!" Nico started, his voice lilting and mellow (and oddly familiar? Will couldn't quite place his finger on where he had heard that voice) not really looking at anyone, "I'm Nico Di Angelo, and I'm Italian, I moved here when I was really young, that's um... that's it?"

With that Nico hurried back to his seat, his gait calm, but seemed as though it was withholding great power. Now that Will thought of that, Nico somewhat resembled the calm before a storm...

Don't ask Will why he felt like that, because even he didn't know.

As Nico walked back to his seat, Will and Nico met gazes.

It was only for a small, insignificant split second.

Nico's gaze bore into him. It was so intense, Will felt like he was being dissected. Like the guy was analyzing him.

Will blushed under his stare as Nico turned away, sitting down languidly.

The lesson was probably interesting, as most of the students actually seemed to be paying attention today, but Will...

Let's just say he found something else more interesting than the lesson.

E/N: Sorry this took me a while to post! It was technically ready like 11 hours ago, but I had to (1) sleep and (2) figure out what was going wrong with my computer. For some reason the paragraphs of this chapter were difficult to format; they all wanted to stick together instead of automatically putting new lines in between paragraphs. Also, my computer has been having issues recently where it glitches out and turns off approximately every few minutes, so you can imagine the editing process was annoying because I kept having to reboot my computer.

Anyway, don't forget to vote and comment to show your appreciation to Sadewmi!

Adios!
