Chapter Five: And By The Villain, No Less

WHY DID GHOST KING HAVE TO BE SO GOOD IN A FIGHT???

Will was screaming profanities in his head as he swung a fist at the said villain, who gracefully dodged and continued his strut down the dark hallway as if nothing happened.

Sunshot was a hero, he did not encourage violence, he tried to be civil with Ghost king, he tried to talk to him, to get him to stop.

But he won't listen.

So, what choice did Will have, instead of throwing a blow?

Will jumped in front of Ghost king, intercepting him.

Ghost king tilted his head back slightly, his expression annoyed. Okay, yes, Will couldn't see his expression because his entire face was covered. (He even had a hood on! He technically didn't even need it, considering his mask covered the entirety of his face!)

But, he had had so many unpleasant run ins with this person, now Will knew that when he tilted his head back like that, like he's gazing at you down his nose, it meant he's annoyed.

Will's fingers sparked with sunlight, glowing and churning.

Ghost king seemed unimpressed.

Jeez, it was hard to break this guy. It seemed like nothing interested him, safe for breaking into other people's houses and that nothing, absolutely nothing, intimidated him.

Ghostie sighed, his voice, as it filtered through the mask, was slightly obscured, but it was clear enough for Will to make out the words "What exactly, is your problem?"

Will's eye twitched. "My problem? MY PROBLEM? What's YOUR problem?!"

Of course Ghostie has the perfect reply: "You're standing in my way, that's what."

Will's sparking fingers curled into fists. He normally did not get angry, he prided himself on that, but today had been a bad day. One, he was sleepy. Two, he still had a hell load of homework to do. Three, he had failed miserably in trying to get the new hot kid to sit with him and his friends at lunch.

If he wasn't in a bad mood earlier, he definitely was now. Ghost king was not helping in the slightest.

Will swung another punch at Ghostie, his fingers melding with rays of sunlight.

The Ghost king swiftly avoided his blow, ducking underneath Will's arm and rebeginning his snooping, leaving Will blinking at the empty spot previously occupied by the other. He even had the nerve to whistle!

That irritated Will even more because...

Oh my god, I can't believe I'm admitting this—

Because...

* Whispers * He couldn't whistle.

ANYWAYS—

Will sprang at Ghost king's back with a shout.

Ghostie twisted around, grabbing Will's arm and twisting it behind his back, he clicked his tongue, and said, his voice low, his breath tickling Will's ear and making the fine hairs on the back of his neck stand on end, "If you're going to attack someone behind their back, know to do it quietly."

Then he let him go, opening a door in the hallway into a study. As he strode in, steps holding a certain power and grace, he threw over his shoulder, his voice teasing, "And it's such a nasty thing to do! Where's your sense of honor, Sunshot?"

Sense of honor? SENSE OF HONOR?

WHO WAS HE TO LECTURE SUNSHOT ON HIS SENSE OF HONOR?!

Will gritted his teeth and this time, quietly tackled Ghost king, who had been a little too invested in rummaging the papers on the big oak table.

But of course, Ghostie's reflexes always got the better of Sunshot.

He ducked in the last possible moment, and Will couldn't stop himself in time before he smashed into the shelf.

A ceramic vase swayed dangerously, and toppled off the shelf. It would've smashed right on Will's head if not for—

If not for him being saved.

By the villain, no less.

A gloved hand deftly fished the vase of the air. "Careful! You'll break something!"

Will was stunned, he was getting lectured for nearly breaking something.

And again, by the villain, no less.

Will blinked up at the Ghost king. "I um... thank you," he muttered, slightly breathless as he stared at the slender figure, wrapped in shadow, looking down at him with a probably disapproving look.

Ghostie scoffed, placing the vase back on the shelf.

"No need to thank me, it would be a pity if such a nice vase breaks on that boulder of a big head of yours."

Will flushed, and bit his tongue, he shouldn't let Ghost king's sass get to him. That was one of the rules of being a superhero.Never, ever, let the villain talk you around.

Will got back to his feet, but stumbled.

Aaand he's done something to his ankle.

Great, how he was heading face first to the tiled floor again.

And got saved.

Once more, by the villain, no less.

What was up with today?!

Ghost king caught him and held him up, a hand around his waist.

For some reason, despite the humiliation of being held up by the very person he was trying to throw in jail, Will noticed small things.

Like, how Ghostie was actually several several inches shorter than himself. Not short, but more of average height, whereas Will was a solid 6 feet. (A/N: I dunno for sure what's average height for americans, cause, asians' average height is short for americans? I dunno, just bear with me okay?)

And that Ghost king had a slender, almost petite build, which would lead anyone to be amazed at his surprising strength.

"Are you okay?" Ghostie questioned, his words concerned, but his tone nonchalant.

"I um... I just twisted my ankle," Will replied in a daze.

MY GOD WHAT ARE YOU THINKING WILL?! GET YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!

Ghost King groaned. "I can't believe I'm doing this... Do you need any help?"

The Ghost king... was offering help?

Suddenly aware of how close they were, Will pushed Ghostie off of him, staggering his way to the wall. "It's fine, I heal fast."

(A/N: and no, Will does not have healing powers. Sorry if I shattered any hopes, but there are many potential scenarios I can write that will be less effective if he could heal with a touch. But, his natural healing is faster than that of others, and he won't get contagious illnesses. Clearing that up, on with the story!)

Will wasn't going to be fooled so easily. The Ghost king was trying to trick him, he knew it! He was probably scheming something. Because... because he was a villain... and villains don't offer help.

Ghost king regarded him. "Okay... but, are you sure you can get back like this?"

"What? So you can come with me and see where I live?!" Will snapped, "Yeah, I don't think so!"

Ghostie didn't reply for a moment, then spoke, sounding a little thoughtful, "okay, I didn't even realize I could've done that. But FYI, I don't intend on figuring out where you live, I don't care."

Will wanted to scream in frustration. "Then what is it?! What IS your intention?!"

Before he could even hope for a reply, the sound of running footsteps echoed up the hallway and a bunch of policemen burst into the room.

"GHOST KING! SURRENDER OR—"

But a mass of shadows enveloped him.

And he was gone.

Leaving Will leaning against the wall, blinking dumbly at the officers.

E/N: Still busy bc of finals & moving back in to college so I can't go through and comment on everything yet but I wanted to say that the nickname Ghostie is my favorite thing ever, that is adorable
