The Realization
"The ceiling stopped spinning for me. Is it still spinning for you? "Robin asked
Steve took his hand from his forehead to see nothing
"Holy shit. No. You think we puked it all up?"
"Maybe. Ask me something. Interrogate me."
Steve let out a chuckle at her fake Russian accent "Okay. Interrogate you. Sure. Um... When was the last time you, uh, peed your pants?"
" Today."
"What?"
"When the Russian doctor took out the bone saw."
Steve started to laugh, this time there's no drugs in his system "Oh My God"
Robin laid on the floor, knees to her chest, and she closed her fingers.
"It was just a little bit, though."
"Yeah, it's definitely still in her system." Steve muttered
Robin sat up straight
"Alright, my turn"
"Hit me."
"Have you... ever been in love?"
"Yep. Nancy Wheeler. First semester, senior year."
Steve imitated a gun shot and chuckled. Robin rolled her eyes and scoffed
"Oh, my God. She's such a priss."
"Hm. Turns out, not really."
"Are you still in love with Nancy?"
"No"
"Why not?"
"I think it's because I found someone a little bit better for me. It's crazy. Ever since Dustin got home, he's been saying, "You know, you got to find your Suzie. You got to find your Suzie."
"Wait who's Suzie?"
"It's some girl from camp, I guess his girlfriend. To be honest with you, I'm not 100% sure she's even real. But that's not... that's not the point. That doesn't matter. The point is, this girl, you know, the one that I like is someone I never even talked to in school. And I don't even know why. Maybe because Tommy H would have made fun of me, or I wouldn't be... prom king. It's stupid, I mean Dustin's right, it all just a bunch of bullshit anyways. Because when I think about it, I should've been hanging out with this girl the whole time. First of all, she's hilarious, I've felt like this summer, I've laughed harder than I have laughed in a really long time. And she's smart, way smarter than me. You know, she can crack, like top secret Russian codes you know? She's unlike anyone I've ever met before."
Robin sat down, speechless, her head is on her knees as her hands wrap around her hair. There's been something that's she been hiding. Steve jumped at the door opening just to find Natalie there.
"Nope not a Russian just me"
"How are you feeling?" Steve asked
"Like absolute shit"
She opened Robins stall just to find her nearly about to cry.
Natalie knelt down and touched her arm. "Robin, hey what's wrong?"
No response
"What did you say to her?" Natalie asked
"Nothing... she just asked a question"
"What question?"
"Have you ever been in love"
Now Natalie stayed quiet... she wasn't sure how love felt like. In movies, it's always between a boy and a girl but never with the same gender.
"Robin?"
He taps on the stall
"Natalie?"
"Robin, did you just OD in there?"
Steve slid down to their stall to find the two there
"The floor's disgusting."
"Yeah, well, I already got a bunch of blood and puke on my shirt, so..."
"What do you think?"
Natalie furrowed her eyebrows. "About"
"This girl."
"What girl?"
"She sounds awesome."
"She is awesome. And what about the guy?"
"I think he's on drugs and not thinking straight."
"Clearly" Natalie took a quick glance at Robin
"Really? Cause I think he's thinking a lot more clearly than usual."
"Mhmmm"
"He's not. "Look... he doesn't even know this girl. And if he did know her, like... like really know her, I don't think he'd even want to be her friend."
Natalie started becoming concerned. What is she talking about? Steve leans forward with a sympathetic look.
"No that's not true, no way is that true"
"Listen to me Steve, it shocked me to my core, but I like you. I really like you. But I'm not like Nancy Wheeler"
"Robin that's exactly why I like you"
This was a mistake, Natalie should have stayed there by the plant, but she was too nauseous. Is this how the story ends? The guy gets the girl, while she's just there watching. But maybe it doesn't have to end that way. As she was about to leave, Robin grabbed her arm, pleading her to stay.
"Do you remember what I said about Click's class? About me being jealous and, like, obsessed?"
"Yeah"
"It isn't because I had a crush on you. It's because... she wouldn't stop staring at you."
"Mrs. Click?"
Robin let out a slight chuckle, she can't believe Shes about to say it. Her big secret
"Tammy Thompson. I wanted her to look at me. But... she couldn't pull her eyes away from you and your stupid hair. And I didn't understand, because you would get bagel crumbs all over the floor. And you asked dumb questions. And you were a douchebag. And... And you didn't even like her and... I would go home... and just scream into my pillow."
It seems like her experience sounded so similar to Natalie. She is just like Robin. Just a few days ago she screamed in her pillow because Steve Harrington was holding her hand. Natalie just feels plain stupid now. She never liked him that way.
"But Tammy Thompson's a girl." Steve said, a bit oblivious.
"Steve"
"Yeah"
The three lock eyes, Natalies attention goes to Robin for a second. She felt slightly scared after Steve called Jonathan a Queer back in 1983 but maybe she didn't know. As he was connecting the dots, Natalie wrapped her hands together. She liked girls not boys.
"Oh. Holy shit"
He just stayed quiet. Natalie was ready to slap him, worried he might call her a Queer.
"Steve... did you OD over there?"
No, I just, uh... just thinking."
"Okay"
"I mean, yeah. Tammy Thompson, you know, she's cute and all, but... I mean, she's a total dud."
Natalie just furrowed her eyebrows; this was not the reaction she expected.
"She is not."
"Yes, she is. She wants to be, like, a singer. She wants to move to, like, Nashville and shit."
"She has dreams."
"She can't even hold a tune. She's practically tone-deaf. Have you heard her?".
"All the time."
♪ "You see me now tonight"♪
Natalie just started laughing at Steves impression. This wasn't the same man she knew back in 1983. He changed for the better, and it took a while for Natalie to actually see it. Maybe one day, he might find someone to love. Someone that isn't her cousin.
"Shut up."
♪ "You see me..."♪
"She does not sound like that."
"She sounds exactly... That's a great impersonation of her."
"She does not. You sound like a Muppet"
"She sounds like a Muppet. She sounds like a Muppet giving birth."
The three burst out in genuine laughter, no drugs in their system
♪ And if you could hold me tight ♪ ♪ We'll be holding on forever ♪They tried imitating a Muppet.
The door opened to reveal Dustin and Erica. They seemed upset. "Allright what the hell"
The three continued to laugh, Natalie focuses her gaze on Robin. She loved it when she laughed. But Natalie started to realize something, all those butterflies she got in her stomach anytime she got close to her, or when her smile lights up her whole world. It all because she liked girls all along, Natalie Wheeler is in love with Robin Buckley.
A/N : Sorry I've been a little sick... but I'm getting better. And just in time for Pride Month huh can't believe I'm half way through S3, it's been soo much fun
