everything about us seemed like a series of incredible coincidences. that we should have ended up in the same place at the same time, that we should have spent so much of our time together, even the fact that the universe had chosen to let us exist at the same time.

so i should have known.

i should have been ready, once the universe decided it was time for you to go, to wipe the blood away from broken scabs. because even though i could finally start to heal, the sight of you was enough to pick at the old wounds.

and we were just those kind of people — the kind that coincidences never stopped happening to.
