wattpad communities

when i started writing, i started looking for feedback as well. i searched the word reviews in wattpad and thankfully got a handful of active reviewing shops.

every time i requested a review, besides other payments, i had to follow at least 2 accounts. the community, the reviewer, and sometimes the founders and admins. it makes me wonder why do all these communities exist? to do exactly the same thing but for more payment?

now don't get me wrong, i'm not hating or bashing. i like what these communities do for wattpad and how they help and encourage writers, but what's the use of hundreds and hundreds of communities that are exactly the same thing? reviews, book clubs, awards and interviews alongside a bunch of such activities. the same thing. every. damn. time.

why don't these people do their own projects on their accounts and that's it? you'd find a particular reviwer working in several communities, trying to catch up here and there and garnering follows, reads and shoutouts. why don't you just open your own review shop? isn’t it easier to manage things that way?

my point is, if you're going to start a community that's like every other without a special project or purpose, why? do your own review shop. do your own awards, book club and account rates on your personal account. dont entagle yourself in the responsibility of watching out for others. give your account a specific theme of what you like to do most on this orange site, and carry on with it. writing, hosting activities, editing, just reading, or even everything. do collabs, but don't start a community in the sea of overflowing communities.

all of the above is in a hand, and the careless members on the other hand. you do all these goddamn payments and get nothing back bc woosh suddenly they're inactive or changed their username and disappeared. or, in a better case, they give you a half-arsed review of 300 words that you can barely figure where you need to improve. or if they wanna sound smart, they'll point out something that makes no sense.

moral of the story: you don't need to start a community to be a helpful wattpader. do your thing on your account and save yourself the hassle. also, stop fooling people into following you and reading your books then disappearing ✋
