Now this particular virus has taken over the vast expanse of writing and has infected nearly all the authors who write fanfictions. 

Presenting you, the Melodic Laughter Virus.

This deadly virus has many symptoms and can be seen in nearly all OCs created by the author who is unfortunately infected by the lethal virus. First and foremost is that the OCs always have a very melodious laugh and is usually described as the sound sweeter than that of wind chimes, it was as if time had stilled itself, the sound of a fresh gurgling fountain etc etc.

What I don't get is that why do all the OCs have such a mesmerizing laugh?

It is almost always like the girl has a perfect laugh, the boy is secretly in love with it and boom, happily ever after!

And automatically, if someone has a melodic laugh then they would have a beautiful voice as well. 

I just don't get it that why don't people write about characters who do not have a charming laugh. People laugh, they guffaw, they chuckle, they chortle, they giggle etc etc there are so many options to choose from yet when the author does pick one, it is none other than the beautiful laughter like the silvery peeling laugh of a fairy.

It is almost as if a trend has been set for the main female roles that they have to be perfect and follow the trends no matter what happens. The OC must have a beautiful laugh, a perfect voice, a mesmerizing beauty and the list could go on forever.

You don't see many OCs who are average looking with average hair / eye / skin color. You don't see many OCs who have a normal laugh that is not so entrancing. You don't see many OCs who talk in normal English and who are not that highly sensitive as if they have a radar fit inside them. 

While creating a character, make sure to give her (and I'm saying her because we don't have any male characters nowadays, they seem to have gone out of fashion) realistic traits. She can laugh and not be depressed about sounding like a dying seal, she can talk in any way she wants without caring if her speech fits the set standards, she can look however she wants without being beauty conscious.

For example, I am working on a fanfiction which belongs to the Harry Potter fandom and centers on the Fantastic Beasts plot line. It is about Newton Scamander and I'm pleased to say that it is not a love story.

The main character, Melody, is a Sudanese and if you have read or watched the Fantastic Beasts movie / script book, then you will know of the Obscurial that Newt mentions to Jacob Kowalski telling him that he had separated it from a Sudanese child. And I am writing about that Sudanese child. So basically, I'm writing about the Obscurial and its return.

Now that Melody is literally opposite to her name. She talks a lot and very fast, she will laugh whenever she wants (in a not so charming manner either) however she wants, she nearly always gets a bit too talkative and would have to slow down for others to understand (that is if she realizes that others aren't getting her point), she is as close to a normal bubbly teenager as I could make her. 

[A normal bubbly teenager who thinks she can do anything in the world and at times has to face the consequences of being a bit too independent].

I have taken inspiration from my friends and other random people I observe in order to make her as close to real life as possible.

But obviously I am not giving everything away here in this chapter so if you want to find about Melody then you will have to wait until I publish Ephemeral. And trust me that is going to take a long while since I really can't find enough time to work on it. Thanks to College and exams.
