Another really cliche plot. Like extremely. After the doppelganger stories, this is the most overused cliche of TVD Fanfictions. So we will talk about both of these types one by one.

Salvatores:

When the fanfic centres on the living with Salvatore brothers concept, a few of the things are very common.

1. The OC is female. I mean I get it that majority of authors on WP are female and really feminist writers which is a good thing in itself, but we do need male OCs in fanfics too.

2. OC is adopted.

3. Or dumped on the brothers by Sheriff Forbes.

4. OC's age is usually under 17.

(How can Liz forbes trust two vampires, specifically male vampires, to take care of a person, especially a girl, who is under seventeen? Unhealthy, really).

5. Stefan turns into a 24/7 mother of the house. All the time.

6. Damon is really more of his badass and cool self, more so around the kid and she is extremely fascinated by him.

(Again, rather unhealthy).

7. Elena disapproves.

8. Caroline (again) is a super cheerful pink supporter. She's high pitched, clingy, girly and reliant on others af. And yes, she always has a depressing breakup and said OC is there for her support. So yeah, besties forever.

9. Jeremy... Jeremy is the most obvious choice for OC's love interest. (Until or unless she falls for Damon... Obviously Jeremy then).

10. Matt is entirely useless. Except for working at the Grill he has no other purpose in the whole fanfic.

11. Klaus ruins the day! Usually kidnaps the OC and compels her to be his girlfriend blah blah blah. Honestly, does he have nothing better to do than compelling a minor to be his gf?

12. Then Bonnie comes in the picture. Because honestly, who else could they ask to perform a tracking spell? Kai Parker? Hell, naw.

13. Damon and Stefan to the rescue! Writing this reminds me of the Powerpuff Girls idk why.

14. Katherine takes up the task of ruining the day after Klaus has been done with.

15. And if Katherine doesn't hurt the OC enough, the werewolves jump into the picture.

Originals:

It is actually rather similar to the previous one but all the scenes turn opposite .

1. The OC is female. (ugh,  I'm actually tired of seeing this).

2. How the OC met the Originals is diverse so that's okay. But still it's usually some kind of street kid abandoned in the dark alleys of New Orleans.

3. She usually has an abusive past or relationship.

4. Elijah becomes the daddy of the house. Nope, not that daddy, my bad,  I meant the father of the family.

5. Klaus is kind and caring. Seriously... The f going on with Klaus? He's the Vampire world's Voldemort and you portray him as nice? NICE?

6. Rebekah is basically what Caroline is in the Salvatores fics.

7. Hayley doesn't exist. And if she does then she's kinda the mom figure for the OC.

8. Kol is a spoilt bratty nuisance of a baby brother. And also flirtatious as hell.

9. OC is either 15, 17 or 19.

10. Esther is nonexistent until she decides to go on a killing spree or until she spikes the Mikaelsons' drinks with any lethal poison.

11. OC gets transitioned to a Vampire. Either Kol does it for her or the bad guys (Salvatores) show up.

12. Yes, the Salvatores are the villains.

13. And the werewolves are loyal servants.

14. Katherine is a double agent.

15. OC gets hurt, tortured, poisoned, incarcerated, burnt, trapped with the tomb vampires, kidnapped, decapitated, stabbed, bit by werewolf (mostly Tyler) in short suffers all kinds of horrible traumas but still she doesn't die.

Exception:

Yes, I always include exceptions. But I didn't for the other doppelganger stuff cuz I haven't yet read a good fic on that topic.

Anyhow, the exception for today's topic is LIVING WITH DAMON AND STEFAN by Dark-Violet

This story's main OC is Marni Salvatore. And believe me when I tell you, she is awesome. The story is written beautifully, makes sense, has no glitches and overall is perfect. It also has a sequel by the name of LIVING WITH THE ORIGINALS, I have not yet read it but assume that it would be just as good.

Go give it a try. It's definitely worth it.
