Yes, such stories do exist and are extremely popular among fans. And for today, this plot is going to be the topic of discussion.

Plot Facts:

1. The main plot consists of a fangirl (yes, it is always a fangirl) who wakes up one day and miraculously finds herself in the TVD world.

2. And usually, no explanation is given for the sudden transfer into fandom.

3. The first person she meets is Damon Salvatore.

4. Who is going to be the love of her life afterwards.

5. Then she meets the Mystic Falls gang.

6. Elena is bitchy to her. As always.

7. Caroline is simply a waste of time.

8. Bonnie is potentially her grandma or something.

9. Stefan gets friend zoned.

10. Katherine becomes her bestie. Like honestly? I can't see that happening.

11. And if Katherine doesn't, then Rebekah takes up the role.

12. Everyone except Matt is a supernatural.

13. Klaus is a baddie who will spoil the day always and steal the girl from Damon.

14. Compulsion. Loads of it. "Hey I'm gonna go to the Grill and order some drinks. What does it matter if I'm a minor? Compulsion rocks." Or "I'm shopping but forgot my money at home. No problem, will just compel the salesman. Easy af."

15. Horrible smut. (I'm gonna make a separate chapter to discuss this in detail).

16. Getting drunk. All the time. And still not getting a hangover.

17. The werewolves become the villains.

18. All the other females have absolutely nothing to do except trying to flirt with Damon and pissing off the OC.

19. The OC legit replaces Elena in the story.

20. Nobody gives a f*ck about Elena, because hey said OC is much more fun and smart.

Overview:

Basically this is how the story goes...

"It was another practically boring day of my dull life. High school in the morning, a tiny friends meetup in the evening and dinner at home in the night... And in all the time lapses in between I do absolutely nothing except music or completing homework... Phew, ordinary life is so boring. And yes when I get free time, I watch TV shows. My favorite being the Vampire Diaries."

Included a whole para of OC gushing on how awesome the show is, how hot and perfect the cast is, how hooking the dialogues are, how it gets her too emotional and blah and blah and blah. And there is a side note to it all.

"How I wish it was real..."

OR

"How I wish I could be in their world."

Follows a kind of twisted supernatural version of Part Of Your World from the Little Mermaid...

"I want to be where the vampires are

I want to see

Want to see 'em fighting

Drinking blood with those

Whadd'ya call 'em? Oh, fangs

Down where they walk

In the dark where they've fun

Down where they stay all day hidden from the sun

Wandering free

Wish I could be

Part of that world

What would I give

If I could live

Out of this boring reality?

What would I pay

To spend a day

Being part of that fantasy?"

Anyhow so after the whole explanation of how badly the OC wants to live in that fandom, she falls asleep cuz she's exhausted after a tired day and dreams something entirely nonsensical (yet which the author claims is quite necessary to the plot, idk how).

And when finally OC wakes up she finds herself in an unknown house, on an unknown bed and a stranger seated on the chair beside her staring curiously at her.

"My head was hurting I don't know why and I didn't want to open my eyes but when I did... I was shocked. I was not in my room. I was in a completely different place and how I ended up here, I have absolutely no idea. But the most shocking thing was that... IAN SOMERHALDER WAS SITTING RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! Eeeeeeeeee...!!!!"

Geez, calm down gurl.

"Did I die? Is this Fangirl Heaven? OMG, he looks even more hot than he does on TV. God, I'm the first person in my High School who is seeing Ian in real life!"

And actually this is just the beginning.

The story proceeds from here in the points which I have already discussed before.

And the worst part... There is never an actual ending. OC doesn't come back to her world and stays in the fantasy world because if she did come back, how could she and Damon have a happily ever after? So that's just it.

Exception:

Like I said before, not all such stories are bad.

For example, consider a fanfic written on WP by VeGirl

It is titled as LIVING MY DREAMS. Now that book follows the same plot but is quite beautifully written. The OC Emma is relatable, funny and quirky and the author provides a convincing theory on why Emma and her best friend get transported into the Vampire Diaries world. So give that story a check out and trust me, you won't be disappointed. It has a few sequels too namely Chasing Dreams and Unfolding Dreams.
