Face Claims
A face claim is a person your character looks like it. Face claims can be anyone but they are usually any celebrity, actor or known person who you can use to represent your character.
There can be many problems regarding face claims such as selecting the right one, the whole hell breaking loose if the celebrity turns out to be problematic, or a face claim being totally contradictory to the requirements of the story.
So in this chapter, I'm gonna share with you all which face claims you can use for a certain type of characters.
***
The Salvatores:
If your character is a Salvatore sibling or one of their family members, you have to take clear notice of how the Salvatores look like before finding your face claim. Because obviously family members do look a lot like each other and it will be better if you consider this fact.
And that is the reason why you can find so many Salvatore sibling stories with a main character having blue eyes. But blue eyes aren't a must, there are many other attributes you can match as well.
Let's get started with the basics.
The Salvatores are an Italian family as the name Salvatore, Guiseppe and Stefan clearly suggest. In the books, they have been mentioned as Italian very clearly and some chapters have Damon speaking Italian as well. So nationality is pretty much confirmed. But of course it's not necessary for you to use an Italian face claim.
Then, all of them have high cheekbones and distinct aristocratic features. I'm sorry if I disappoint you, but a guy like Logan Lerman playing the Salvatore brother just doesn't seem to fit right in my opinion.
You can use someone like Tom Sturridge or Adam Gregory to play their brother. You won't have any problem with the hair color since Damon clearly has dark hair and Stefan on the other hand has a lighter brown shade, so you can fit any hair color on to the sibling; brown, black, ocher etc.
Other examples you can consider:
Liam Hemsworth
Douglas Booth (I kinda think he would do well as a Damon's twin or the brother who looks quite a lot like Damon)
Sam Claflin
Chace Crawford
For a Salvatore sister, you can take Lily Salvatore for reference. But my top preferences for a Salvatore female lead are:
Lyndsey Fonseca
Megan Fox (especially if it's a Damon's twin story since she has the same dark hair, blue eyes and high cheekbones).
Katie McGrath
Gal Gadot
Ashley Greene
***
The Mikaelsons:
Similar to the Salvatores, the Mikaelsons too fit in the aristocratic category.
For the Mikaelson males you can consider the following:
Max Irons
Jesse Eisenberg (when I first saw his movie Now You See Me, I mistook him for Joseph Morgan)
Zac Efron
For the females, you can consider these face claims:
Deborah Ann Woll
Emily Bett Rickards
Teresa Palmer
Amanda Seyfried
Lily Collins
People tend to use Olivia Holt a lot in Mikaelson sister stories just because she's Claire's (Rebekah) sister. I personally think that she just doesn't fit because she just has too much of a nice innocent girl vibe to her, that's why I have put her with the Forbes.
***
The Lockwoods:
Using Tyler and Mason for reference, I think these actors would do very well as part of the Lockwood Family.
Nicholas Hoult
William Moseley
Josh Hutcherson
In the female category:
Melissa Benoist
Sarah Hyland
Ashley Tisdale
Nikki Reed
***
The Forbes:
I don't really know who would be most appropriate to play Caroline's brother so I just stated those who are slightly close to matching the requirements (blonde hair etc):
Alex Pettyfer
Jamie Campbell Bower
And the Forbes girls are as follows:
Olivia Holt
Amanda Seyfried
Elizabeth Olsen
Emily Bett Rickards
***
The Bennetts:
I really didn't know who to cast as the Bennett brother so I just left that part out. If you have any suggestions do let me know. The Bennett ladies are as follows:
Keke Palmer
Nathalie Emanuel
Alisha Wainwright
Emily Ratajkowski
Zendaya
Bianca Lawson
***
The Marshalls:
For the Marshalls, I thought that Darren Criss would be okay as the brother.
The actresses you can cast as Hayley's sisters are as follows:
Eva Green
Leighton Meester
Katie McGrath
Elizabeth Gillies
***
The Donovans:
The list for the Donovans was quite unexpected for me because it did turn out pretty much larger that what I thought.
For Matt's brother, you can consider these:
Armie Hammer (I think he does look a lot like Matt)
Jamie Bell
Ben Mitchell (he's a Disney actor so you may or may not have seen him, he starred in Disney Descendants 2)
Cody Christian
For the sister, you can consider the following examples:
Jacqueline MacInnes Wood
Odette Annable
Odeya Rush
Shay Mitchell
Priyanka Chopra
***
The Gilberts:
For the Gilberts, I took Jeremy and Elena as reference so here goes the list for the brothers:
Ansel Elgort
Freddie Highmore
Skander Keynes
Aaron Tveit
And the Gilbert sisters can be:
Victoria Justice (I know she's overused but we can't possibly ignore her striking resemblance to Nina Dobrev, right?)
Alicia Vikander
Audrey Hollister
***
Most of the above stated face claims are overused but that's just how I imagine the characters to be. You can come up with new ideas or you can use these, it's clearly up to you.
As to the whole case of problematic face claims, I just don't understand why people bother that much about it. When using a face claim you are just using the celebrity's looks to portray your fanfic's character to your readers, you are not using their personalities or their habits.
What said actor does in his life has absolutely nothing to do with your OC. If I want to use Amanda Bynes or Lindsay Lohan as a face claim, I most certainly will and people should not have a problem with it.
I know it's sad that a few such talented actors resorted to drugs/crimes etc and became problematic but that shouldn't really affect them being used as face claims.
An author can portray his/her characters however he/she wants and can choose any one to be the face claim be it problematic or not.

Hope this was helpful.
