Very few circumstances might be an exception.

For eg. Magnus has accidentally ported himself Will and Tessa to the future and the lack of clothes on the women were enough to even make him blush.

But it's not okay that he blushes when Alec says I love you!

Secondly, get your facts right!
Now I understand that you are writing a malec fanfic but you have to include other characters like Jace and Izzy. I might understand that you do not remember a few details of their characters. THEN DON'T MENTION THOSE DETAILS OR AT LEAST GOOGLE THEM.

I abandoned a good fanfic cause the writer mentioned 'Izzy's shining blue eyes' freaking 6 times in the whole chapter!

LEARN TO GOOGLE STUFF

Overused highschool au.

Okay, seriously. Be creative. There are tons of highschool malec fanfics out there with either no plotline or literally the same plotline.

Well if you've never read one, here's how it goes-

Alec is the good boy/silent/introverted nerd while Magnus is the popular/fashionable king of the school. Either Alec is new or Magnus is new and they instantly or insanely slowly(this is rare and usually boring) fall in love. They make out and do stuff and well the story ends. Oh wait, did I mention the Malec fangirl Izzy, the golden playboy Jace, raging bitchy Camille and well Clary is Clary.

That is literally it.

Its an AU guys. Be innovative, pull at the strings. HAVE A PLOT FOR RAZIEL'S SAKE!

Okay, who all here watch Shadowhunters? You probably know about Shumdario.

But for the others, Shumdario is the ship name for the actors who play Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood.

Let me get it straight for you messed up people.
Malec is not equal to Shumdario.
The actors and the characters are different! These beautiful actors who care and deeply understand Malec and work restlessly day and night to present before us the beautiful and magical malec moments are being paired together in real life.

WHY?!

Ship them as a brotp, but please, they have a separate life. I do not want to read or see Shumdario fanfics when clearly Harry Shum Jr is married and Matthew Daddario is in a long term relationship!

GET THAT IN YOUR HEAD

Another very important issue us post Malec breakup fanfics.

I am totally fine with the angst, that is not what I'm talking about. You see there appear to be only two types of post-breakup fanfics:

1. The Alec-depressed-and-suicidal-cause-Magnus-broke-up-with-him Lightwood fanfics

2. The Magnus-makes-out-with-Alec-asap-after-breakup-like-nothing-happened Bane fanfics

3. The Alec-I-am-too-good-for-Magnus-and-I-regret-nothing Lightwood fanfics

Let me break them down for you.

1. Magnus broke up with Alec and now its the end of the world. Alec doesn't exist without Magnus, he literally has no other reason to live.

Please. He is a freaking Shadowhunter. Yes he is very unhappy and kinda depressed by their breakup but that doesn't mean he'll just give up living. Throughout his life he has been trained to be strong during all kinds of problems and situations- physical and emotional. He will survive this.

2. Magnus literally broke up with Alec the day before but then he meets/sees him somewhere and he just cannot resist his sexy body. The make out, talk a bit and BAM they are together again!

Can no one see how irrational this is? Magnus broke off with Alec because he freaking tried to take away his mortality. How would he like get okay with it in one day?!?
Also, Alec still wants Magnus to tell him about his past but Magnus is still not ready to open up that much. As much as we would like them to get back together it is not a solution! It just leads to plotless fluff!

3. Alec doesn't care about Magnus cause now he is too fucking good for him and he is just so over with him. This usually leads to him making out with other guys, like Jace ie. a Jalec fanfic or magically becomes straight and gets together with random oc girls that the author makes up.

Its plain ridiculous.
Okay, Alec may get drunk and do some things like make out with another guy, turn rebellious and stuff bit it won't be permanent! He is going through the aftermath of a breakup but that won't just turn him straight or anything. He still loves Magnus!

I actually read this PJO X TMI crossover where Will Solace and Magnus Bane dumped their boyfriends to get together and Nico di Angelo and Alec Lightwood end up together.
No fucking way.

You cannot break two of my otps just like that, without any reason whatsoever.
