Easter One-Shot
Some background infomation for this one-shot. This is basically a modern AU with some of the TID characters as little kids. There's:
Will
Jem
Tessa
Ella
Cecily
Gabriel
Gideon
And all their parents
Enjoy! (be warned this is no way my best writing, and the last bit was kinda rushed because I procrastinated until today)
"That's MINE!" Will squeaked as he shoved Tessa onto the ground with his little baby hand and grabbed the chocolate egg that she was holding. Any other child would have cried then, but instead Tessa giggled as Jem bent down to help her.
"She's a girl James!" Will whined, "No girls allowed!"
"Play nice Will," Lynette called from across the lawn where she and the other parents were sat with their wine and cakes. Elizabeth Gray was beside her, telling her friend that Tessa wouldn't be fazed by the boys' bullying, but Lynette still wasn't amused.
"Everyone should get chocolate, it's chocolate!" Jem exclaimed, snatching the egg out of Will's grasp and handing it to Tessa, smiling even when she mumbled that she didn't even like chocolate. Will didn't seem to notice.
Just then baby Cecily came ambling up the garden with her big sister Ella holding her hand. Gideon and Gabriel were behind them shoving each other and then shoving into Will who screeched as they collided.
"William get down here!" Lynette yelled, though Edmund tried to sooth her. She was clearly having a bad day.
Gabriel giggled and prodded his brother with his tiny finger as Will hung his head and moped off to his mother.
"That was mean," Tessa told Gabriel, planting her hands on her hips and acting years older than she actually was while Jem looped his arm through hers and received a smile. She was clearly happy to have backup. Tessa was taller than Jem, but he didn't seem to mind, especially since she was also taller than Will.
"Well I don't like nerds!" Gabriel shot back, planting his hands on his hips and holding his stance though Gideon tapped him on the shoulder and tried to get him to back off.
"That's not very nice," Ella cut in, but had to turn away to hug Cecily when she began crying.
"What's a nerd?" Jem asked.
"Someone who likes boring things," Gabriel said.
"Like what?" Gideon asked, seeming suddenly interested.
"Like books," Gabriel said, looking directly at Tessa. Tessa stares angrily back with Jem still at her side telling Gabriel that he was being mean, but before anything else could happen Will crashed into Gabriel from behind and sent them both sprawling head first in the grass.
Gabriel screamed, but Tessa giggled as she backed away with Jem's hand in hers as he muttered that they were going to get in so much trouble.
"WILL!" Lynette yelled up the garden, but the two young boys were already rolling around the garden, grabbing and hitting at each other. In a flash Ella shoved Cecily's hand in Tessa's and ran to get between the boys, but she ended up becoming a part of the fight, and when Gabriel accidently hit Ella Will went mad.
"YOU HIT MY SISTER!" he yelled, hitting harder at Gabriel as he pushed Ella away, but by then Edmund was up the garden and pulling them apart.
"In the corners," Edmund instructed, and the boys hung their heads as they trailed off to opposite corners of the garden, but Will didn't miss the chance to smirk back at Jem and Tessa.
"Now we have to find the eggs without him!" Jem complained, slamming his hands down by his side.
"You know they're just chocolate right," Gideon pointed out as Tessa repeated that she didn't like chocolate, though neither of the boys were listening, so she jumped onto Jem's back and shouted
"I bet I can find the most!"
It was a challenge that Jem couldn't pass up.
He ran off with his crayon coloured basket swinging from his hand, and seeing him, Tessa skipped away in the opposite direction, grabbing an egg from the grass and dropping it in her own basket.
---
"They're not shared out fairly," Ella complained when they were back inside, "Cecy doesn't have as many."
"Cecily's two," Lynette said, handing the bag to the small girl who was cradled in her father's arms, "she doesn't need so much."
Tessa was sat by the fire with her legs crossed and a lollipop in her mouth while the boys shoved as much chocolate as they could in their mouths, though Jem wasn't as hostile as Will.
"You're disgusting," Gabriel told Will, sticking his tongue out at Tessa when she scowled.
"Lynette!" Gabriel called, "Will's being disgusting!"
Lynette looked over, but Will had already swallowed what he had chewed and smiled sweetly at his mother. She gave him a glare and looked away.
"But why don't you like chocolate," Jem asked Tessa for the fifth time, "It doesn't make sense."
"Because it's yucky," Tessa said, crossing her arms and licking her lolly, sticking it back in her mouth when Will made a grab for it and mouthing 'mine'.
Tessa heard a scream, and turned to see Gideon wrapping his chocolaty hands around Ella's waist, getting brown stains all over her yellow summer dress. She looked angrier than Tessa had ever seen her, but she didn't make an attempt to push Gideon away, and waited for Benedict to move his son. When he didn't it was left to Edmund to help the girl.
As soon as Gideon was pried away Ella ran away in a fit of sobs, and Lynette chased after her. They didn't return for a while, but when they did Ella was in a long glittery gown that was way too big for her and was clearly something old of her mothers, and she seemed more than happy to eat her chocolate in front of her brother who had long since finished.
"It's very pretty," Tessa said, abandoning the boys and sitting down at Ella's feet, fiddling with the fabric which Ella didn't seem to mind.
"My mum said I could keep it, do you want to see what other ones she's got," Ella asked, and got up to ask Lynette if they could when Tessa nodded her head eagerly.
---
Tessa was amazed by the shimmering fabrics Lynette had in her wardrobe, and though nothing fit her she let Ella help her into the smallest dress, which trailed behind her when they went back downstairs.
Will giggled when he saw Tessa in the dress, but Jem stared, watching Tessa twirl over to them, trying not to trip.
"You look pretty," Jem said in amazement.
"She looks silly," Will said, shoving Jem and giggling.
Tessa crossed her arms and stuck her tongue out at Will, though Lynette didn't scold him this time.
Elizabeth crouched down by her daughter, running her hands down her arms. "I think you look beautiful," she said, and Tessa gave her a crooked smile in reply.
"Can I have one of the little chickens yet?" she asked, and Lynette laughed from the other side of the room.
"What chickens," Jem asked, "can I eat them?"
"Chickens are ducks," Ella said, sending Will off in a fit of yelling and screaming that he would destroy the foul beasts.
"But what chickens?" Jem asked again, forming an O with his lips when he saw the packet of fluffy chicks that Lynette pulled out of her bag. Tessa ran to get one, and instantly named it Jane.
Jem and Will took one too – despite Will's protests that they were evil, Jem made him have one – and they sat down together with their chicks, Jem's which had been named church, and Will's which had been named Will Jr.
"Can they be friends?" Tessa asked.
"Best friends," Jem said.
"Just like us," Will finished, and the three of them spent the next hours sending the chicks on crazy adventures involving demons and angels, and men with evil robots, and vampire parties, but somehow the chicks got through it all.
Basically they told tales darker than any five year old should know.
