As day is light and dark is night
As oxygen gives and carbon dioxide deprives
Where sailfish swim, but ravens fly
Where souls wander, and secrets never die
Where demons stalk and shadows lie

The heartless stand, silent and alone
Spirited away from the place they called home
Frightened by death's monotonous drone
Far from where they once stood, secure in their homes

For some lights faded, for some they did not
Some thought to cease, some ceased without a thought
While some were afraid of the pain death wrought
Some desperately sought the relief it brought
Some deaths were purposeful, some were a natural cause

But for all felt the loss
And all were left with a scar
