Chapter 11

I had woken up the next day at noon. Tonight was Bailey and I's first date, and I was anxious for the time to come.

"Mom!" I called as I walked downstairs.

"Yeah?" she called back.

"Wheres a nice place I could take a girl to dinner?" I asked. I had been thinking of where to make reservations for Bailey and I all day long. It was kind of last minute, but I was always late on making plans.

"There's an Italian place close by that we've been to for dinner before," she said, "I can find you the number to call and make a reservation."

"Thank you," I said glad my mom could help me. I never had to do this before. I got the number from my mom and called to reserve a table for two.

"Can you help me bring in the groceries from the car?" she asked once I hung up the phone.

"Sure," I said making my way towards the car.

"So dinner date?" my mom asked as I brought the bags into the kitchen.

"Yeah," I said with a slight nod of my head.

"With Bailey?" she asked and I nodded.

"That's nice," she said nonchalantly. I knew she was happy on the inside, her little boy was going on his first date with a girl she approved of. I knew she was trying to keep it cool.

"I'm gonna go upstairs and shower," I said noticing it was 5:30 already, I had reservations for 7:30. I had been staring at the clock all day long. The minutes seemed to go by slower every time I looked back up at the clock, it was now getting closer to the time I was suppose to pick up Bailey. I was getting nervous as the time came closer.

I walked up to my bedroom and kicked the door shut behind me. I picked up my phone and began to type a message to Bailey.

*I'll get you at 7 if that's alright :-)*

*Awesome, how fancy is it?*

I laughed at her response, I knew she was probably standing in front of her closet freaking out about what to wear. I then remembered I didn't know what I was going to wear yet either.

*Casually fancy if that makes sense. It's not too fancy, but it's not exactly a place for jeans* I said trying to remember how nice it was the last time I went there.

I walked into my bathroom and started the shower, letting the water warm before stepping in.

Once I got out of the shower, I walked back into my room and pulled on a pair of black skinny jeans and a red flannel. I laughed at how I texted Bailey it wasn't a place for jeans, but yet I was wearing black jeans anyways. But I didn't believe black jeans fit into that classification. Black jeans looked slightly nicer than normal blue jeans. I wore black skinny jeans 90% of the time, even to formal events.

I pulled at my hair, making my quiff to my liking. I looked in the mirror quickly before I shut off my bedroom light and made my way down the stairs.

"Bye mom," I called as I grabbed my keys off the key ring we had by the door.

"You look nice sweetie, have fun," she smiled from the kitchen doorway. I gave her a small smile back before leaving the house and getting into the car.

As I approached Bailey's house, the more nervous I got. I was extremely nervous when I saw her walking towards my car. She was wearing a nice black dress, and she looked amazing.

"Sorry I'm late. I usually am," I choked out, noticing it was 7:08 when she got into the car. I wanted to compliment her, but I was at a loss for words. I had only seen her in a dress once before, at ashton's birthday, but I never really took in the sight.

"It's no big deal," she said sweetly her voice quiet. I hoped she was as nervous as I was. I saw her look over at me and smile while I was backing out of her driveway. I had to fight the big smile trying to form on my lips.

"I hope Italian is okay?" I asked keeping my eyes on the road. I was still way too nervous to look her in the eye. I didn't want to start stuttering or sounding stupid.

After a few minutes into our drive, I reached over and turned up the volume on the radio. I was too nervous to speak, and I was trying to think of what to say during dinner, not wanting it to get awkward.

"Hemmings for 2," I said nervously as we walked up to the hostess stand. I had never had my own reservations, so this was all knew to me. I had only seen this be done in movies.

"Right this way," the hostess said leading us to the table.

We slid into the booth the host led us to, "I hope it's okay I requested a booth," I said.

Bailey gave me a smile and reassured me that it was fine. I met her eyes with mine, and I smiled hard. She looked flawless and it made my nerves increase.

After the hostess set down our menus and placed two glasses of water on our table, she smiled at us. "Your waiter will be right with you, Mr. and Mrs. Hemmings," she said as she walked away. My mouth dropped as did Bailey's, as we both broke out in laughter.

"I swear I look 12 years old," Bailey said in between breaths.

"I do not look like I'm that old, Do I?" I asked laughing as well.

As we both began to settle down I took a sip of my water, "Sorry about that."

Of course something embarrassing had to happen to me on our first date.

"It's good," Bailey said as we both picked up our menus, scanning over the options. After only a short minute Bailey set her menu down.

"Know what you're getting?" I asked raising an eyebrow at her. She had decided quickly.

"Take a guess," she said and my eyes scanned over the menu quickly again.

"Chicken Alfredo," I said confidently. I knew it had to be what she was getting as soon as I saw it on the menu after looking it over.

"Actually not this time," she said shrugging.

"You can't go to a restaurant and not get your favorite thing," I said as if she was crazy. I really just felt dumb for being wrong.

"I'm just kidding," she said laughing at me, "So are you getting pizza then?"

"You already know it," I said placing the menu on the edge of the table. I looked down at my pinky ring, fiddling with it before looking up at Bailey.

"You look nice," I said nervously looking up at her eyes with a soft smile on my lips.

"Thanks," she said breaking a smile, "You do too."

I had thought I was nervous before, but Bailey's words made my stomach create a bigger knot.

"Remember that time we went to five guys?" she asked.

"Yeah."

"I hit you in the face with the paper football and I thought you were going to hate me forever," she said looking down at her hands, recalling the memory.

"Hate you, why?" I asked confused. I wouldn't hate her for that, gosh I couldn't hate her for that. I remember she looked cute and guilty.

"I don't know, I feel like you would have been annoyed with me," she said with a small frown placed on her lips, not meeting my eyes.

"Not at all, I just learned you were terrible at table football and that next time we play I should sit next to you," I teased making her look up at me and smile.

Our waiter appeared with our food, and it smelled amazing. I realized I hadn't ate all day so I quickly ate my food. I hadn't realized how hungry I was.

The waiter came back and took my empty plate before handing me the check and giving Bailey a box for the rest of her food. I threw some money down on the table, and Bailey and I made our way to the door.

"Was it alright?" I asked as we walked towards the car.

"It was great," she said looking up at me, "Thank you."

"Thanks for coming," I smiled at her.

The car ride consisted of us groaning about how full we were, and the music playing loudly through my speakers.

We pulled into Bailey's driveway sooner than I wanted to.

"Thank you so much Luke," she said getting out of the car.

"Wait Bailey!" I called as she made her way up her driveway, I noticed she left her box on the floor.

"You forgot your leftovers," I said handing her the box of her leftover pasta.

I wasn't the type of guy to make a bold first move, so I just pulled her in for a hug. She was at least 5 inches shorter than me, so I wrapped my arms around her shoulder. Her tiny body pushed against my tall frame.

"Thanks for agreeing to come," I said with a smile pulling back.

"I had a lot of fun," she said smiling and looking up at me. I wantedto kiss her, but I didn't want to scare her away. Plus, I didn't have the confidence in myself.

We exchanged our last goodbyes, and I got into my car and headed home after my first date with someone I already knew was special.
