Chapter 24: Because It Was My Choice
Look out for the <>!
I looked at my watch. I had 5 minutes until Moriarty came to meet up with Sherlock. I sat down on a park bench and watched my surroundings. I saw Sherlock from across the park at the flower shop. He watched all the cars pass, probably seeing if one of them was Moriarty. I could see him perfectly but I knew that he didn't see me. I didn't want him to know I was here. I didn't want to let anyone know I was here. Moriarty thought that I was working for Mycroft now. He thought that I listened to him and all of his plans. This was a lie. This time, I was not listening to anyone's plans but my own.
I took out my phone and saw that John text me asking me where I was for the 5th time in the last 30 minutes.
"Are you at the flat?" John texted
John couldn't have made it back to the flat yet if he took a cab. I could lie and still have a little more time without him getting in the way. "Yeah, just reading a book. Let yourself in when you get here." I texted him back quickly and put the phone back in my pocket.
I saw Sherlock look at his phone then put it back into his pocket. He looked around, as if looking for someone. Just then a car stopped in front of him and two men got out of the car. They grabbed him and shoved him in the trunk without many people noticing. Mycroft's men came running in to save Sherlock but someone from the roof starting to fire at them.
Suddenly the park was filled with screams and yells as people ran in all different directions. I ducked behind the park bench as I watched, helplessly as the car speed off. Mycroft came running out of a small café, with a phone in hand. He ducked as the sniper fired again. Mycroft ran to one of his fallen men but I knew there was nothing he could do to help them.
I waited another minute until the gun firing stopped, hinting that the sniper was gone. He did what he needed to do, make a distraction and cause chaos. I slowly got up from my hiding spot and listened another minute, making sure it was still safe. After not hearing any more gun shot's, I knew it was safe to go. I had to get out of here, knowing that Mycroft would blame all of this on me since it was always my fault.
I had to save Sherlock, and the first I needed to figure out was where Moriarty took him. London was big. Where would they go? Would they leave the country? I remembered what Marina told me, Ukraine was a front. They didn't want to use him in Ukraine. But how about Russia? The past few days has shown me that Moriarty was getting impatient.
Kale had reason to believe that Moriarty wanted to kill Sherlock. Why would he want to kill him? Because Moriarty was a psychopath. He killed everyone that got in his way or that was just simply as smart as him. He was going to kill Sherlock in London. Quick and easy. But he would want to kill more than just Sherlock. He wanted to hurt all of London.
If I wanted to prove that I outsmarted the smartest man on earth where would I go?
I remembered the night that I got back to London Mary was talking about some new building next to the Shard. It was in the center. The builder was not addressed in the article. I remembered Mycroft talking about something that was being imported to London to help build a new building. What if these two things were related? What if Moriarty was building a bomb inside the building that was next to the shard?
I tried to remember every article that I glanced at about this new building. The own was a privet man. The building was made with some new material that was made in Ukraine then shipped here. I ran my hands through my hair, suddenly it was all making sense. The war was in Ukraine that was a front like Marina said. What if they were making the material under everyone's nose hidden in plain sight because of the war?
"How could I have been so stupid?" I said as I walked to the Tube quickly. I was running out of time. Moriarty was making his moves faster than ever. I had to get there before it was too late.
I was waiting for the next train to come when Mycroft's voice rang out loud clear behind me. "I thought I saw you in that park."
I was hoping that he wouldn't see me. I didn't want him to get in the way of this. I turned to face his sour self. "Whatever you are going to say, you and I both know that I have the best chance in finding him."
He smirked at me as if what I said was funny, "I wasn't going to stop you. Just to give you this." He said and handed me a gun. I quickly took it and put it in the back side of my pants. "John knows you're not at the flat. I'll come up with a cover story. But my duty ends there."
I nodded at him. I thought he would step in the way but clearly I was wrong. Did this mean we were finally even and I was free? "Thanks." I felt the rush of wind come from the tunnel and knew the train would be here shortly. I turned back to face the train tracks just as the train came rolling into a stop.

I ran to the Shard and took a hard left and ran down a few alleys, trying to find a lot large enough to build something with no success until I got to the only construction site in the area. This was the construction site I was looking for. If Sherlock was in London, this had to be the place he was at. I looked at the wooden fence around the building to prevent people from getting in or even seeing what was on the other side.
I quickly got in and looked around. I saw the same black car that took Sherlock only about an hour ago in the muddy drive and I knew I was in the right place. I reached for the gun under my shirt and continued to walk farther into the unknown territory. I thought about what Kale said, not make a plan, not act like myself.
I looked at the building had to be at least 10 stories high and only half of the building had walls on it. The last 3 or so floors were open to the weather. I didn't know what floor Sherlock was on but I guess that I had to go on every floor and look. With no plan, I wasn't planning on making it out alive. If this is what it came down to, I was fine with that.
I walked through the front door and looked around at the empty room. Nothing was finished here and everything looked rough. Moriarty never planned on finishing this place, this was all a scam.
As I walked around the first floor it was clear that no one was here. It felt like I walked into a ghost town. I started to walk up to the stairs to get to the second floor when I heard someone from behind me.
"Now I thought you would have come a little sooner," Moriarty's voice rang out.
I felt my heart speed up as I let out a breath. This was my chance, I could kill him right now and this could be over. All I had to do was pull the trigger. My grip tightened around the gun and in a split second without thinking farther, I turned around and pulled the trigger at him. The gun made a clicking sound but nothing came out of the barrel. It was empty.
Mycroft gave me an empty gun. I resisted the urge to scream. He planned this. He wanted this to happen. He wanted both me and Sherlock to die.
Moriarty chuckled at me. "Didn't think that it would be empty did you? Poor old Mycroft let you down again. What are you going to do about it?" he frowned dramatically.
I looked him right in the eye and shrugged. I had to not be myself. I needed another plan. If Mycroft wasn't going to help us, I was all alone to get us out of this. Maybe this was Mycroft's plan all along. I felt outraged at Mycroft but I didn't show it. I had no idea where Sherlock was, but that was my next plan. I needed to find him first.
"Well I'm so glad you could make it. You're a big part of my plan after all. Come, I'll take you to Sherlock." Moriarty said and walked past me, up the stairs. I watched him go up half the stair case, not sure what I really wanted to follow him into the unknown. "Are you coming or not?"
Without saying anything else I followed him up the stairs. I thought I already out lived my usefulness when I gave the message to Sherlock. However, there must be more to the plan that I was not seeing. I thought for sure that once Moriarty had Sherlock, I was useless to him. So now that he had him, I had no idea why I was so important still.
Moriarty knew I was coming. I had no idea that Mycroft was working for him. Mycroft had to have told him. This was all Mycroft's fault, all of this. I walked up the rough wooden staircase to the second floor. Moriarty was talking to me about the weather, but I didn't care to pay attention to his words. We got to the top of the stairs and saw Sherlock on his knees in the middle of the room with a few men around him holding guns to his head.
I felt my heart race as I looked at Sherlock. He nodded at me calmly and it calmed me down. Moriarty wanted this to look worse than it was. But Sherlock looked ok with no signs of damage done to him. He then looked at me and frowned as if he knew I would all right into Moriarty's trap.
"See this building, this is what I have been working on." He tapped on a metal beam holding the ceiling up then looked at us with a smile as if he had everything he wanted in life. "There is something unique about this building. It's made with this new metal, my friends in Ukraine made it for me. You know why I like this so much?" He paused and looked at us as if we knew the answer. "It blows up, really easily. And your brother Mycroft didn't figure this out. I slipped this all under his nose. And now it's here, I would like to see London with a huge black hole in the middle of it." He walked to the side of the building and looked out a hole that was going to be a window.
I let his words sink in. He was going to kill a lot more people than just us. I felt sick. How could I have not seen this coming? For months I heard chatter of some kind of attack but I never thought it would be so destructive and in my own back yard of all places. I took a step forward as if to make myself known again. I felt the guns change from Sherlock to me. I have had a target on me for so long that now it was making me feel invincible in this moment. "No, you can't do that! You'll kill thousands!"
He looked at me in confusion. "And to think that, you wanted to kill yourself? How is this different?"
I frowned at him. There were loads of differences. "Because it was my choice."
He smirked at me. "Then tell me Rori, why haven't you made that choice yet?"
I shut my mouth and looked at the ground. I didn't know how to respond to that because I didn't have an answer myself. If I wanted to end this pain but I looked at Sherlock and thought of John and Mary and Miss Hudson. If I really wanted to die why was I here carrying on? Yes I didn't have Kale anymore, and yes Russia broke me. But this was my job to stop the psycho path and many others from killing everything in this town? This was my new job and no matter how hard it was to keep going, I had too. If not for me but for them.
"How are you going to blow the building up?"
"It's already starting. The sad bit is that the particles take a little bit to heat up before they blow. What you didn't know is that Rori has an activing agent under her skin. I gave it to her last time we were together. And just like I planned, you came to my doorstep."
I looked at my hands and arms to see if I could find anything that looked different. He had to be lying. I would know if he gave me something. I would have felt it. I rubbed the back of my neck and felt a small bump. I never noticed that before. He was telling the truth. There was something in me.
"There you go, you found it," Moriarty said and checked his watch. I then understood why I was so important. This was all going to be my fault, the fall of London. He wanted it to be like this. "Well I hate to do this to you, but I have to run. It's been fun. But I'll need you to stay here. Just look at it this way, I'm doing you a favor. You wanted it to end. My gift to you." He bowed and left us.
Two men came up to me and tied my feet and hands together. I fell to the ground, unable to move. I watched them as they took Sherlock with them, leaving me behind. "Come back you coward!" I shouted at them, trying to bring at least Sherlock back. I heard nothing, knowing that they were not coming back.
I needed to do something. I needed to fix this. It was my fault. I couldn't cause the building to blow. What if I got out of here. Would it deactivate? I struggled to get up and managed to hop across the floor. I got to the staircase and tried to take a small step but managed to fall down the staircase instead.
Once at the bottom, I managed to get my hands free. Even though my body was screaming at me in pain from the fall, I pushed myself up from the ground. I untied my feet and ran out the door to see Moriarty getting into the black car.
I held up my hand to stop him from going. "Wait, that can't be it though. You are Moriarty! You are known for games. What is the game this time?" I asked, knowing that this was too simple of a plan for him. There had to be more to this that I wasn't seeing.
I watched as a smile come to his lips. He had another plan. He just wanted me to ask it. He just wanted to get me shaken up, unable to think as clearly. "Now that my dear Rori is a good question. One person on your team is not on your team anymore. Figure that one out and you'll have your next clue. I'll give you..." he picked up his watch and looked at the time. "3 hours to figure everything out. If you fail, I get to kill, you, Sherlock, and this building of mine." He said mimicking and explosion with his hands.
Someone was not on the same team as us. Mycroft.
"Now, goodbye Rori," Moriarty said as I watched him get into the car and drive away, taking Sherlock with him. Someone was going to die today.
