When I woke up the next morning, I climbed out the window to avoid my parents and Hazel. I acted so stupid yesterday. 

I run towards the Curtis' house, not looking in the direction of the Cade house or the lot. I walk up to the porch and swing the door open. 

"Hey, Kristanna." Says Two-bit from the couch. 

"Hey." I say, looking around. "Where's Mr. And Mrs. Curtis?"

"They died a little over a year ago." Steve says.

"What?!" I exclaim.

"Car accident." Soda says quietly. 

I feel a moment of grief but it's gone after a minute because I didn't really know them. "So what's for breakfast?" I change the subject.

"Chocolate cake and beer!" Shouts Two-bit.

"Uh.. Do you have a salad or something?" I ask in the most polite way I can manage.

"There might be something like that in the fridge." Darry says.

"Thanks." I head over to the kitchen and select an apple and cheese stick from the fridge.

"You're not gonna have more?" Pony asks.

"Nope." I unwrap the cheese stick.

"Aren't you gonna be hungry?" 

"Yeah. But in Hollywood, you have to stay skinny to get starring roles and what are you in that town if you don't get starring roles?"

"Huh?" Two-bit says with a weird look on his face.

"So you're starving yourself for vanity?" Steve asks. "That's gross."

"Hey! Okay. I'm sorry. I know this is Tulsa. Not Hollywood. I'm probably never going back to Hollywood. So," I take a deep breath, "I never thought I'd say this again, but, gimme some cake."

Two-bit smashes some on my face and I gasp in surprise, then we all laugh about it. 

Once I clean my face off- with help of Steve, who licked the crumbs right off me- I settle onto the couch. "So." I say. "Did you guys watch my show?" 

I get a series of weird looks.

"Right! Sorry!" I put my hands up in mock surrender. "That's only an appropriate conversation starter in Hollywood. I guess I may have forgotten how you act here. Woopsies! Anyway, what's new with you guys?"

"Ponyboy wrote a book!" Exclaims Steve with his mouth full.

I raised my eyebrows. "Really?! That's so cool!"

"Here it is!" Darry exclaims, pulling a book off a shelf and handing it to me. 

The book is called The Outsiders. "Why SE Hinton?" I ask.

"She's a girl in my class who helped me edit. I insisted she take all the credit." Pony explains.

"I'll have to read it." I say, scanning the summary on the back of the book.

"Basically, it's what happened a little over four months ago." "Great!" I tuck the book into my purse.

"Oh and your show was neat." Two-bit says. "A little girly for my tastes, but it's got a swell story line and some catchy tunes." Then he starts singing one of my songs really off key.

"Why thank you." I smile. "But I can't take all the credit."

"You're a star, kid." Darry says. 

"Thank you."

I don't know whether to be releived or offended that the boys didn't gush about me and try to make a move on me.
