Chapter 9
⠀⠀"Wake up you stupid asshole!" someone screams, causing Alec to drift slightly out of his dreaming state. The words are followed by cold water pouring over him, causing him to rise with a start, looking around his room in confusion as to who has woken him up from his nap.
⠀⠀"What the hell, Emma?" he shouts, his eyes landing on her standing cross-armed by his bedside.
⠀⠀She narrows her eyes at him and begins throwing more water on him from a bottle in her hand. "I should be asking you the same thing!"
⠀⠀He puts his hands up to try to shield his face from the liquid. "Stop!" He reaches out and smacks the near-empty bottle out of her hands. "Stop! What are you doing?"
⠀⠀"What am I doing? What are you doing? I come out of school today and go to my boyfriend's parking spot to find that his car is not there, and then I get told that he left with not just any other girl, but the girl that he knows I hate!" Emma shrieks. "So I had to walk home thanks to you."
⠀⠀He runs his fingers through his now wet hair. "Kalani was having a bad day, so I took her home and stayed with her to make sure she was okay."
⠀⠀"I don't give a fuck about Kalani or her little feelings. I care about the fact that you ran off with another girl, didn't tell me, and then left me stranded at school," she hisses.
⠀⠀"I was helping a friend! I'm sorry that you had to walk home, but you only live like five minutes from school anyways. This was just more important," he says, trying to remain calm.
⠀⠀She scoffs. "Oh, okay, I see. Kalani is more important than me."
⠀⠀He groans. "I didn't say that."
⠀⠀She crosses her arms over her chest again. "You just did!"
⠀⠀"Well that's not what I meant! I meant that what she was going through was a bigger problem than you having to walk three blocks in order to get home!" he explains.
⠀⠀"And what exactly was poor little Kalani going through?" her tone changes to one similar to how people speak to babies, only sarcastic. "Did someone hurt her feelings? Can she not handle taking what she dished out for years?"
⠀⠀"Oh shut up!" he exclaims. "You have no clue what you're talking about, and if you did, you'd feel like the biggest bitch in the world."
⠀⠀"Then why don't you tell me?" she asks.
⠀⠀He shakes his head. "I can't do that."
⠀⠀"Why not?"
⠀⠀"I promised her I wouldn't tell anyone, and I keep my promises," he says.
⠀⠀"Well you also promised me that you wouldn't choose her over me, so tell me what was oh-so-very important or we are over," she hisses.
⠀⠀He groans. "I'm not choosing anyone over anyone! If you had a bad day, I'd do the same thing I did for her for you."
⠀⠀She takes a step closer to him. "Tell me or we are over."
⠀⠀He laughs an exasperated short laugh. "Well, I guess we're over."
