⠀⠀The next day after school, Alec pulls his car into the driveway of Kalani's house right behind her own her. They step out of their cars and walk with each other to the front door, Kalani's unlocking it and letting him in. They sit down on the couch in the living room.

⠀⠀"So Emma and I broke up," he says.

⠀⠀Kalani's eyes widen. "Really? What happened?"

⠀⠀He shrugs. "She flipped out over me being with you yesterday, and when I wouldn't tell her why, she gave me an ultimatum. Either I tell her why you were having a bad day or we break up."

⠀⠀"You could've told her," she says.

⠀⠀He shakes his head. "There's no reason for her to need to know."

⠀⠀"Well, I'm sorry that you guys broke up," she says.

⠀⠀He laughs. "I'm not. She was horrible!"

⠀⠀Kalani's jaw drops. "Then why did you date her for a year?"

⠀⠀He smiles and shrugs. "She's hot and would have sex with me."

⠀⠀"Ew!" she shrieks. "When did you become such a fuckboy?"

⠀⠀"I'm a teenage boy. I have needs," he says plainly.

⠀⠀Kalani smacks him. "That is disgusting."

⠀⠀Alec reaches into his pocket and pulls out a leather bracelet. He places it in Kalani's hand and holds his wrist out. "Tie it on me."

⠀⠀"You're really just rebelling against her now, aren't you?" she jokes, looking at his friendship bracelet in her hand.

⠀⠀"What can I say? I'm a rebel," he says. "And I need my Kalanec power back."

⠀⠀She wraps the strip of leather around his wrist and ties the strings into a tight knot.

⠀⠀"Well, there's your Kalanec power."
