Chapter 1: The Day Everything Changed
Chapter 1: The Day Everything Changed
"Artemis, let's go!" Grammy called. She wasn't my grandma or anything, more along the lines of my legal guardian. She wasn't even old enough to by my grandmother, she just liked being called that. We were moving again. I flew down the stairs with my bag, my only bag. Grammy was a centaur, a very pretty and young one. She was also very fast. She was the only person I knew for a long time. We moved a lot, she never told me why, I just figured she got bored really easy. My gaze trailed around the completely furbished house, another thing that happened; furniture was bought then it was left. I never really got it.
I was young then, only... nine, maybe. That was also the day I met him for the first time.
"Let's go." Grammy ordered, pulling me after her. I slowly followed. I was pouting. I didn't want to move again, it had barely been three weeks since we moved the last time. I didn't even get to settle in my new school. That was also my last school. After that I was on the run a lot. My only form of learning was hunting, the land, and what Grammy told me while she was alive.
"Artemis, now!" She ordered. I chased after her into the woods. We could've walked the street with no question, which was another thing I didn't get; why we couldn't have been around other people. Grammy gasped with terror as a sudden storm dragged over the generally sunny town. "It's him." She whispered. She dragged me in another direction. I hastily followed.
We were moving quickly for a few days, maybe. We were out of the town and on the road. I got tired after a while and road on her back. I was mostly asleep when another storm hit. I looked up as a man approached us. He had a weird tint to his dark eyes. It freaked me out. I slid off of Grammy's back as she defensively pushed me behind her.
"Even more beautiful than I thought..." The man's voice was dark and cracky. A little kid was standing behind him. He looked hesitant. His eyes darted when we made eye contact. "Gram, hand her over." The man ordered.
"No, Cronus!" Grammy snapped. She pushed me all the way behind her. The man snickered with amusement.
I don't really remember what happened after that, I remember lightning flashes and the adults battling. I remember them both collapsing. I remember Grammy screaming for me to run. I remember Zeus' crying. I remember him screaming and the storm worsening. I remember running as fast and as far as I could. I remember my eyes opening to the road. I remember a stranger ready to take me with her.
But most of all, I remember what Zeus looked like; how innocent he looked before his farther was killed. His little flurry blonde hair that seemed to have its own mind, his black eyes with the tint of blue, his clothes that seemed the part of a school boy, his freckled face, his peach skin that was freshly cleaned. He looked just like any other kid. He was probably just like any other kid...
Now, though, Zeus looked like an adult more than a teen. His hair was at an awkward length, his skin was completely a mess, his clothes were torn. We both looked absolutely terrible and we're only tweleve.
