44 Sick

"Hey baby...I'm gonna stay in bed a little longer, ok?" I mumbled as I felt Michael getting up in the morning.

"Are you still feeling sick?" He asked and turned around to look at me. I had pulled the blanket up to my neck. I felt more tired than usually in the mornings, probably because I was so worried about Michael and his wellbeing. The news that he was not going to be able to have his own children had sent a shock through him and me. But it had especially taken a toll on him.

He still looked miserable and had bags under his eyes from crying throughout the whole night.

"No...I think I am just a little tired." I said and tried to smile. He didn't need an addition to his list of things to be sad about.

"You threw up yesterday, didn't you? I heard it." He said and stroked with the back of his fingers over my cheek. I closed my eyes in comfort and wrapped my arms around the blanket that was covering me.

"Yeah...but I'm better now." I said.

"I'm gonna get you something to drink, and make you breakfast." Michael said and got up.

"Thank you baby" I smiled. I had never been sick before since I lived with him, and it was wonderful how he instantly wanted to help me out, even though he was completely drained himself.

"French toast?" He called, as he was halfway down the stairs.

"Yeah!" I said, yelling a little so he could hear me – and I instantly felt like throwing up again. I quickly sat up, leaning against the headboard. "Michael" I whimpered and slowly got up. I heard him run up the stairs and he swiftly picked me off of the bed, carrying me to the bathroom.

"Come here" He brushed my hair out of my face as I bent over the toilet. He rubbed my back as I prepared to throw up again, but there was nothing coming, since I had not eaten anything since last night. I wiped away some sweat drops that had formed on my forehead.

"Wait, I'll get you a towel" He said and slowly laid my hair over my back, so it wasn't going to fall in my face. He grabbed a little towel and rinsed it with cold water.

"Do you wanna come lay down on the couch in the living room, so we can be together when I make us breakfast?" He asked and stroked my back.

"Mhm" I said and got up. We walked downstairs and I lay down there.

"Here you go" He said and put the towel on my forehead. Then he grabbed a large blanket and covered me with it. "Just relax" He said and put a kiss on my lips.

"Thank you Mike" I smiled faintly. Michael went into the kitchen and poured himself a glass of orange juice. He leaned against the counter, just staring into the air, as he drank a few sips of it. Then he let out a deep sigh. I knew exactly what he was thinking about.

"Can I talk to you about something?" He turned around.

"Yes honey" I said and he walked over to me. He sat down at the end where my feet were and put them on his lap.

"Look...I know we can do nothing about my...infertility." He sighed. "But...and tell me if you don't want that ok...I was thinking, well the doctor proposed, that we could get a sperm donor. I mean...that's a little better than adopting. At least our baby would be related to one of us."

"Yes Michael. Yes" I said and smiled. I just wanted him to be happy. There was no use in waiting even longer to have our first child. We both were ready to be parents, be it Michael's biological child or not, I knew he would love it unconditionally.

"Really?" He smiled and stroked my leg. "It would mean everything to me." He said and I saw tears coming up in his eyes.

"Yes of course. We are going to love him or her just as much." I whispered and took his big hand in mine. "I'm sure you're going to be the most amazing father."

Michael smiled and rubbed my hand. "I can tell the doctor he can look for someone? He said the sooner I call him the faster and cheaper he could find someone."

"Is it expensive?" I asked.

"I really don't know much about money Susan, but I'm going to invest everything if I have to. This is my dream."

"I know. But how much?" I asked out of curiosity. If somebody like Michael Jackson wanted a sperm donor and the doctor told him it was going to be expensive, how could other people afford this?

"I think 1.2 million"

"WHAT?" I exclaimed. "That can't be right Michael."

"Well, that's what he's asking for." Michael shrugged. Of course it wasn't a big deal for him, but it seemed a little much to me.

"Ok, tell him it's ok." I smiled and adjusted the towel on my forehead.

"Alright. I'll make you breakfast now, like promised" He smiled and got up. I looked at him as he walked over there; his walk was a little more energetic now. He made a simple French toast and a glass of orange juice and put it on a silver plate. He walked over to me and smiled, which made me instantly feel better. His smile seemed to have magic powers, I thought to myself.

"Here" He held the toast in front of my mouth and I took a bite. We both giggled and he laid it down on the plate, putting it on my chest so I didn't have to reach that far.

"Oww, wait put it down a little" I said as I felt a pain in my breasts.

"Sorry" Michael quickly put it on my belly. "Didn't know that hurts"

"It shouldn't hurt...I don't know, that's weird" I said and took another bite of the delicious toast. "You're a good chef" I smirked and looked at Michael.

"Thank you" He smiled widely, showing his perfect teeth. "Do you need anything else that could make you feel better?"

"Nah" I shook my head with a wide grin, just looking at him. He was all I needed. Michael raised his eyebrows and stroked my legs that he had taken over his lap. I watched amused him as I ate my toast. He slowly pulled off my socks and began rubbing my feet.

"Do you like that?" he asked and looked at me.

"Yes" I smirked and got comfortable, enjoying his soft touches. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, he began singing, just making up the words to a melody.

"Youuu are ...beautiful..." he sang and looked at me, then chuckled. "my Susan. Wait...the phone is ringing" He sing-sung and we both laughed. He got up and picked up the phone from the wall.

"Hello?...Susan? Yes she's here. She's...well no, she's sick at the moment" Michael said and looked over at me. "Sure"

"Susan, your mother wants to speak to you, come over here" he said. I slowly got up and walked over to the phone. Michael stood beside me and rubbed my back as I spoke.

"Hey mom"

"Hey Susan honey. Michael said you aren't feeling well?" My mom asked concerned.

"No, I threw up last night and now I feel groggy and just...bad" I said and sighed.

"Uhm...wait, are you...do you feel nauseous?"

"Yeah you could say that."

"Tender breasts?"

"No. Well, wait, yes actually." I giggled and looked at Michael. He couldn't hear what my mother was saying through the speaker, so he raised his eyebrows questioningly.

"Are you...pregnant?" My mother giggled. I sighed.

"No I'm not" I said.

"Are you sure?" My mom asked, and I could tell in her voice that she was getting excited.

"Yes I sure mom." I said sadly. I didn't want to explain the situation with Michael over the phone with her. It hadn't even sunk in for me yet.

"Well...if you're so sure about it" She joked. "Listen, call me when you're better. I love you"

"I love too mom" I said and hung up.

"What did she say?" Michael asked and walked me back to the couch, putting the pillows in a comfortable place again so I could lay down.

"Not much...she tried to find out what I have. But I guess I just have to wait it out."

"Yes, that's best. I'll take care of you" He smiled and put a kiss on my forehead.

****

That night I took a cold shower to refresh myself and stood in front of the mirror in my bathroom for a long time, just thinking. So Michael and I were going to have a child from a different man. I sighed, it was strange. But it was the only way.

My eyes fell on a package of pregnancy tests that I had used up. I sighed again and took the box in my hands. There was one more in there. I was just about to throw it into the bin, but then curiosity took over me.

I bit my lip nervously, this was silly. I sat down on the toilet and peed on the little stick, then I waited. I laughed at myself a little, it was silly how hope really died last.

I studied the indructions again, as if I didn't already know. One line meant not pregnant, who lines meant pregnant. After a couple of minutes I looked down at the pregnancy test.

Two, thick lines.
