Chapter 6
The next two years passed in a blur. Brian and Amanda had a little boy. They named him Matthew. He was the cutest baby when he was born; he was definitely the cutest toddler now. It took a while to get used to the changes the bite did to my face. Fortunately, that was the only change. Stephan’s bite didn’t have any lasting effects on my humanity. I hadn’t contacted Stephan since he bit me. Brian found out that he was punished for the bite. He was forever banned from the city and not allowed within 500 miles of me.
The one time I answered the phone for Connor’s call, a week or two after the drama, I wasn’t allowed to speak with Grayson. He was out of the house and didn’t want to speak with me. He was finally able to feel the hurt that came through me when he rejected me all those years ago. It wasn’t something you just forgive. I just figured that was Grayson using me when I was available for him.
I hadn’t had much contact with anyone. I’ve gotten up for work, waitressed for hours and by the time I came home I was too exhausted to have a social life. I hadn’t even really talked to my brother. I had a job as a waitress on the werewolf side of town. It was easier to just stay away from vampires or anything else that maybe lurking in this city.
"Casey!" Matt, Brian’s clone of a son, yelled as I walked into the house. He ran up to me and I tossed him in the air. The 15 month old was getting heavy.
"Where's your Daddy at?"
Matt took my hand and led me to Brian's study. He had a final to study for to get his doctorate. Matt took off running to his mother when she called for him.
"So what's the big rush that I had to come home for?"
"We're going back to the pack."
I put my hands on my hips, "Now that I'm finally comfortable here after 5 years, I have to go back?" He nodded. "What am I supposed to tell Kevin?" Kevin was my current boyfriend. I learned my lesson with vampires. Kevin’s a werewolf, a very low ranking werewolf, which meant low risk. The werewolves with higher rankings were always so much more high strung.
He shrugged, "The truth: That you're going back to be with your pack."
I sighed. I couldn't deny my pack; I made that promise to Brian a long time ago.
"When are we going back?"
"Tomorrow after my final."
I sighed and nodded. "That’s not much of a heads up. I'll be out the rest of the night. I've gotta explain this to Kevin."
He nodded and turned his attention back to studying.
Kevin's house wasn't far. It was 3 houses down. I knocked before letting myself in. I heard scurrying upstairs.
"Lazy ass." I muttered as I walked up the stairs. He was probably getting dressed since being in bed all day. I opened his door with a smile on my face.
That smiled was quickly replaced with shock. His friend from his pack was scurrying into her clothes.
"Baby. This isn't what it looks like."
I shook my head. Maybe there was an explanation why this whore was in my boyfriend's bed. I couldn’t even fight her. She was a werewolf too.
"What does I look like Kevin?" I put my hand on my hip. I was giving him a chance to make up a bogus story. Apparently not all werewolves are faithful.
He looked back at Monica then back at me.
He sighed, "Alright, it's exactly what it looks like." I turned on my heel and I walked down the stairs. "It's nothing Baby. It's just harmless fooling around."
I was out the front door. "Don't worry about it. You won't see me ever again. You've moved on, obviously."
I walked back to the house, it wasn’t far, and sat on the couch.
Amanda came in the living room and sat down next to me. "That was a fast goodbye."
"He was cheating on me with Monica." I said matter-of-factly.
"Ouch."
I nodded and stuck my hand in the bag of chocolate covered pretzels that was in her hand.
"It doesn't matter anyway. We'd have to be finished. His pack lives too far from ours."
She nodded and looked at her son. "Did Brian tell you that I'm pregnant again?"
I smiled at her, "No he didn't." I hugged her, "Congratulations."
She smiled, "Thank you." She put her hand over her flat stomach, "I hope it's a girl this time."
I nodded, I hoped it was a girl too. We needed another girl. We were surrounded by guys. "I've got to start packing if I'm going to be ready to leave by tomorrow."
She nodded and turned off the TV. "Me too."
We both made our way upstairs to pack our belongings.
My four bags for clothes turned into 6, my 1 for shoes was now 3, and my 1 bag for accessories was now 2 once I put all my purses into the bags.
Brian groaned when he came home the next afternoon. There were at least 30 bags for all four of us. That didn’t even include our furniture.
"DADDY!" Matt yelled as he ran to Brian.
I walked down to help Brian with the bags. I took off my heels and grabbed a bag.
"I prepared for you two to do this to me. So I got a trailer. I told Conner he'll need to make some room for all the stuff."
I smiled. "I assume it's in the front."
He nodded and grabbed a bag. Kevin was sitting on the trailer, shirtless. He knew my weakness for muscles.
"Where are you off to?" He asked lowly. He wouldn’t even look me in my eyes.
I sighed, "I'm going home."
He chuckled, "Your home's here."
I shook my head, "No. It's not."
I stepped onto the trailer and pulled the bag up. If Kevin weren’t here I would’ve just moved everything with my mind. I didn’t want anyone out of my pack to know about my abilities. I just used a little to help with the heavier bags.
"Don't leave me Casey." Kevin begged.
Brian came out and lifted the bags up.
"Is he bothering you?" Brian asked.
"No. He's leaving."
Brian nodded and looked at Kevin, waiting for him to leave.
Kevin sighed, "Fine. I'm gone."
I watched him leave. Brian handed me the bags he brought out.
"I'll hand the bags up to you, you make them fit."
I nodded and set up the bags in the trailer. He was bringing them out slowly, but he was still too fast.
"I think you're trying to trap me in here with 30 bags."
He laughed. "I have to make sure you get home."
He jumped into the back of the trailer and helped me get everything ready to be transported. For most of the bags, I moved them with my mind. But since Stefan bit me, I lost a lot of my power. Something in the venom changed some things in me before I could get it all out. Once Brian had Matt buckled in the car, we were off to the airport.
The pack didn’t live where it once did. They had been moved. Brian said Connor would explain everything new to me when we got settled in.
The trailer would be transported to the house for us. We really didn’t want to drive the whole way.
Jack and Chris were the only ones at the airport, looking around for someone familiar. They didn't recognize me at all. I could just wait for their amazement when they found out that I was the girl they weren't expecting. I looked nothing like the person they saw last.
Jack asked, "Where's Casey?"
I smiled, "I'm right here."
Chris and Jack both looked over. Their eyes scanned me up and down. The venom hadn’t changed my body, my vigorous workout routine did. "No fucking way."
"Watch your language." Brian scolded.
Jack winced when he looked at baby Matt, "Sorry man." Jack looked back at me, "There's no way. They said you'd look different...but damn." Chris and Jack both hugged me.
"So are you single?" Brian smacked Chris. Chris smiled, "I had to ask. But I'll assume no."
I shrugged, "Assume what you want."
Brian, "Go get the bags."
He gave Amanda the keys. "Go put the kid in the car." Brian grabbed my wrist, "You're helping with your bags." I only had two, but I still didn’t want to carry them.
I groaned and followed him to the bags.
