Chapter 29
The next upload is going to be in a week. I'm going on a vacation for an extended weekend, so I won't have access to my computer. Sorry!...kinda =p
I was with Stephan longer than I thought I’d be. After a week with Stephan, he changed his car. He’d left me to feed one evening and came back with a different car. Apparently feeding wasn’t the only thing he’d done. He came back with a Mercedes M-Class SUV; Stephan definitely had a thing for Mercedes. He said it was safer and since I was pregnant with Grayson’s kid, he had to keep it safe or he’d get his head taken off.
I spent Christmas with Stephan. I made him buy me a camera for Christmas so I could track my expending belly. He even bought me some maternity clothes since they were more flattering to my belly. He wanted to take me home a week before Christmas and leave me there, but I really didn’t want to go.
I was having a good time with Stephan and I didn’t want Grayson bringing around his girlfriend to ruin another holiday for me.
So Stephan surprised me with a dwarf tree for Christmas. We strung popcorn for decoration.
I even spent New Year’s Eve with Stephan. He took me to a nice restaurant and everything. I knew he was worried. I hadn’t slept well since I left the pack house. Stephan was convinced that I wasn’t sleeping well because of the baby. The baby had a pull towards the pack and that pull kept me awake.
Stephan made us move around a lot. He said the rogues knew I wasn’t at the pack house anymore. They weren’t focusing on the pack anymore. They wanted revenge for me killing their alpha, so delivering me to the woman who was paying them would be killing two birds with one stone.
Stephan made sure to keep the rogues on our trail, but not too close. He wanted them to think we had no idea they were catching up to us.
We managed to lead them away from pack territory, closer to his coven’s land. Stephan had a plan and we had to stick to it.
By the time this plan started coming together, I was already 25 weeks pregnant. My belly was sticking out now. There was no way you could see it and not know what was under my shirt. It was mid March. The weather was getting warmer. It definitely wasn’t cold enough to hide my belly with a big jacket.
So if we were going out, I’d grab something loose and flowie so that it wasn’t incredibly obvious that I was pregnant.
---
Stephan was looking at a map where he thought the rogues were hiding at and I was looking at baby stuff online when there was a knock at the door.
I looked up at Stephan, he didn’t look surprised. Maybe he’d been expecting someone.
Three vampires came into our hotel room, two guys and a girl. I didn’t recognize the guys, but I definitely knew the girl. It was Ashley, one of my few friends from the city.
We both squealed like little girls when we saw each other. It took me a bit longer to pop out of the chair, but I managed.
“Oh my god! You’re huge!” She gently put her hands on my belly. The baby kicked at the cold spots her hands created. “Oh, that’s precious.”
“Why is she here Stephan?” One of the two men asked with disgust. I recognized him as Gustavo, one of Stephan’s best fighters.
“Because she wants to be.” Stephan hissed right back.
“So the werewolf’s bitch runs the show now?” the other one asked with the same tone. It was obvious what they thought of me. I didn’t recognize this one, but he sure knew who I am.
Ashley hissed at them. “You two are so annoying!”
Stephan rolled his eyes and grabbed both men by their collars. “I am the boss here. If you have a problem with her, I don’t want to fucking hear about it.”
He shoved them away. “Follow me.”
Stephan grabbed the map from the table. “I’ll be in the room next door.”
I nodded and Stephan led the two guys out.
Ashley smiled at me. “You look exhausted.”
I nodded, “I am.”
“Go to sleep. I’m here to keep guard.”
I rubbed my belly where I could feel the baby moving, “I can’t sleep.”
“Why not?”
I shrugged, “No idea. I haven’t gotten restful sleep in months.”
Her lips pursed, “Because you’re away from its father?”
I shrugged, “No idea.”
“Have you talked to the pack about it?”
I shook my head.
Her eyes narrowed, “Have you told Grayson that you’re pregnant with his kid?”
I sighed and looked away. “No. I haven’t.”
“Why not?!” She asked completely shocked.
“It’s not something I can just call about. I think I should tell him in person.”
She shook her head. “And what? You’re going to show up in four months with a baby he had no idea about?”
“No.” I shook my head like a two year old. “I’ll be back with them before that. If Stephan’s plan falls through, I should be back soon.”
“Yea, if his plan works. What if it doesn’t? What if they aren’t there again?”
“Well then I’ll just go home after this attempt then.” I was obviously annoyed. I didn’t even bother hiding it. Stephan liked to mutter that my lack of sleep made me turn into a monster.
I laid on the uncomfortable bed.
Ashley turned off the lights. “You should try to sleep, it’s almost 6am. You need your energy for tonight.”
I nodded and closed my eyes. I didn’t need to fight with Ashley because I hadn’t told Grayson about the baby yet. I knew I needed to tell him, but I couldn’t tell him over the phone. I had to tell him in person.
----
When I woke up, Ashley was asleep.
“So much for watching out for me.” I muttered as I sat up.
I didn’t have anything to do anyway. The vampires would be up soon enough anyway. I was sleeping during the day like they do because I had been around Stephan for so long. It was already 6 PM.
I hadn’t slept well, which didn’t surprise me.
So I took a shower to try waking up. The least I could do is look like I had a good night’s sleep at least.
Stephan came in the room and my mouth started watering. He found the best restaurants and usually brought me dinner. He didn’t want the rogues to catch me out in the open where I couldn’t properly defend myself.
Stephan grinned at my reaction. “I even brought you cake.”
He pulled out a huge piece of chocolate cake with a fudge frosting.
I smiled at my food. “Have I told you how much I love you?”
He smiled, “Only when I have food.”
He put the food on the table and looked behind him annoyed. Those two guys must have given him a lot of shit last night.
Ashley was suddenly sitting beside me. She probably wasn’t used to slowing down so she didn’t startle me.
“We’re going to go feed. When we get back, be ready to leave?”
I just nodded, happily biting into my food. Stephan only ordered the things he knew Brian would approve of. That’s why he’d bring me the cake. The food did taste great, but what I really wanted was that piece of cake.
I was lying on the bed, trying to feel the baby kick when the door opened.
Stephan looked fully charged. Ashley came in behind him with a big smile.
“Ready to go?”
I nodded, “I’ve been ready for weeks.”
----
When we pulled up to the house, it was pretty quiet.
“Are you sure this is it?”
It was secluded. The nearest neighbor was almost a mile away.
Stephan nodded, “How many are in there right now?”
I scanned over the house. “There are 30 inside, most of them are asleep. There are 5 running the perimeter.”
“And they haven’t noticed us yet?” Gustavo asked in disbelief.
I shook my head, “They’re not pack trained wolves. If they were, we wouldn’t have made it to the driveway.”
Gustavo turned his glaring eyes to me. “Oh, that’s right. You’re some kind of human expert on supernatural creatures.”
“How about you just go do what you came here for.” I hissed right back at him. He was getting on my last nerve.
He hissed like a cat before looking away. I just rolled my eyes. Now wasn’t the time to fight with Gustavo.
I felt a warning go out between the rogues.
“They know we’re here now.’
Stephan nodded and got out of the car. “You stay in here. I don’t want you getting out.” I just nodded. Stephan was very protective. “You won’t like it if you disobey me.”
I could feel the five rogues on patrol coming closer.
“Fine. I won’t get out and I won’t let anyone in.”
Stephan nodded, “Don’t let them escape.”
“Don’t kill Monica.”
He nodded and with a hand motion, all the vampires got out of the car. They were all so fast. I felt the wolves disappearing from my radar by twos.
We had discussed the possibility of me taking out a few wolves, but Stephan was very against it. He said I wouldn’t be a good mother if I started killing for revenge. That wasn’t how I was supposed to raise my child. I didn’t fight with Stephan over it. I really didn’t want to kill anyone. Now, I was opposed to them all dying.
Some of the rogues were taken out in their sleep, some barely awake, and others went down fighting.
These rogues were no match for Stephan and the other vampires. The pack could’ve easily taken care of this infestation. My brother could be alive if I made him aware of the rogues.
I focused on keeping all the wolves here. No one was escaping today. The only rogue that was going to make it out alive was Monica, but I didn’t expect her to last long.
A man came bursting through the front door. I instantly recognized his face. He was human. It was odd to see a male human living with werewolves. He was the one who attacked me in my bedroom.
He was the one that Connor took to the cops. He had been scoping out the place. If he managed to kidnap me, that would make him look better in the eyes of the rogues. He was trying to convince them to change him.
I stopped him in his tracks. He wasn’t escaping either. Overwhelming fear shot through him when he couldn’t control his body anymore.
When I saw one of the vampires come out of the house, I let the human go. I leaned back in my seat and closed my eyes. I focused on keeping everyone in the house and keeping the vampires from getting too hurt. I had an agreement with Stephan that his vampires wouldn’t get hurt.
Then I felt only five minds in the house: the four vampires and Monica.
They opened up the back of the car and threw her in. The guys took her to the back of the car. They were going to shoot her up with a sedative so she wouldn’t be a hassle while we transferred her to the pack house.
Ashley undressed down to her underwear before opening the car door.
“What are you doing?” I asked when she grabbed her bag.
She smiled, “I’m covered in blood.” She grabbed a towel out of the bag. “I don’t think you want to sit with me for hours while I smell like this.”
She wiped the blood off of her, then got dressed in different clothes. All the vampires did this before getting in the car.
Monica was in the back, with an IV making sure she didn’t run low on a sedative for the trip home. Gustavo and the other vampire who didn’t like me stayed behind with a few gallons of gasoline. He was going to torch the house and make sure there was no evidence of what happened for humans to figure out. Priority number one is always to cover your tracks.
This was it. I after months of being with Stephan, I was finally going home.
