Chapter 20

Philip woke me up at 5AM. I groaned and looked at him. “You should go get us some water.”

I shot him a dirty look. “I just got to sleep.”

He nodded, “Now, go put on that robe.” He pointed to it. “I’ve got a plan.”

“And what plan is this?”

“While you were sleeping, I found this.” He held up a slutty angel costume. “You should wear it under the robe.” It was basically a white corset and a white tutu.

“And how does this plan work?”

“G’s woman has been in the kitchen with a couple other girls for almost an hour. G will check on her soon. He’ll be suspicious of why you’re wearing a robe at this party.”

I could still hear the booming music.

“I’m not ready to confront him.”

He nodded, “Yes, but once he smells me all over you, he’ll get jealous and snoop around.”

“You want him to catch us in the act?”

He shrugged, “More or less.”

I nodded and grabbed the costume. I put it on in my closet since my robe was hanging on the door anyway. “And how are we going to pretend.”

“We’ll wrestle.” He smiled when I looked at him weird. “If you can pin me, just once, I’ll get you off.” I rolled my eyes. “Oh, come on, you enjoyed it last time.”

“It’s not like the real thing.”

He smirked, “I agree, but it’s what you’ve agreed to.”

I could feel the chill in the air when I covered myself with the robe. “This isn’t going to work.”

He wrapped his arms around me, “Yes it will. Just try to be sneaky.” I rolled my tired eyes again. “If you get into trouble, I’ll be listening.”

I nodded and told myself I could do this. Then I tried to make my way, unseen, to the kitchen.

I was doing great, until I actually got to the kitchen.

I had two water bottles in my hand. I was about to make my way upstairs. My foot just touched down on the first step when I heard a throat clear. I hesitantly looked back. It was Grayson, complete with arms crossed and a disapproving stare. If I had the ability, I would’ve set him on fire, right then.

“What are you doing?” He asked suspiciously.

“I got some water. I’m parched.” I couldn’t keep the sarcasm out of my voice.

“You need two bottles?” He snipped at me.

“Why the fuck do you care?” I wanted to hurl a water bottle at his big, fat head.

“I can smell him all over you Casey.” His voice was more growl than human.

“Oh really?” I raised a brow at him. “I can have whoever I want in my room Grayson.”

He bared his teeth at me in an animalistic growl. I wanted to slap him right then, but he was too far away. “No. You can’t.” He was actually trying to order me around. He had a hold of my robe before I could react.

“Let me go.”

“No.” His irises were slowly turning gold. “We need to talk.”

“Go talk to your girlfriend.” I sneered right back in his face.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Let me go.” He grabbed onto me tighter, proving a point. So I introduced my knee to his groin. I didn’t miss, Grayson was definitely well endowed. The robe opened when he let me go, giving him a glimpse at my outfit underneath. “I have a guest to entertain. Don’t bother me.”

I huffed upstairs and slammed my broken door. Philip stood at the foot of my bed.

“You did good, little angel.” He held his arms out for me. At least he knew when I needed a hug. I dropped the water bottles and made a running jump towards his arms.

I wasn’t going to act like a tough guy when I had someone to cuddle all my hurt away. Philip carried me to the bed and listened for Grayson.

“He’s not coming up here.”

“How do you know?” I expected him to come up here and raise hell.

“He took off into the woods.”

I nodded and crawled into bed. When Philip laid down, he pulled me to him. “I know you’re not done with the cuddling.”

I smiled and curled around him. I traced my finger along the creases in his defined chest. He was so strong. I couldn’t imagine why he would owe Stephan a favor.

“What?” Philip said without opening his eyes. I put on an innocent face. I hadn’t been bothering him…I don’t think. “You’re sighing ever 3 breaths and your heart rate isn’t slowing. You’re thinking about something.”

“I was wondering what Stephan did that you’d owe him for.”

It was Philip’s turn to sigh. “That happened when I went through the change.”

“What happened?”

“I couldn’t get my wolf under control. I escaped from the cage my father had put me in. Back then the cages weren’t built like they are now.” He must be pretty old. The cages I have seen all looked the same. “When I escaped, I’m told I ran straight through a town.”

“You were told?”

He nodded once. “Yes. When new wolves are created, they have no control of their wolves. When the wolf decides that it’s their turn to come out and play, the human part goes dormant. They black out.”

I cringed.

“Yeah, it’s not a good thing. Well, Stephan found me when I had turned back human. Luckily I hadn’t killed anyone, but I needed to get back to my father. Stephan took me back home and from there on I owed him. It took him the better part of 200 years to cash in.”

That was a long time. That mean Philip had to be at least 220 years old. “Does that mean that you don’t owe Stephan anything anymore.”

He nodded. “I appreciate that he hadn’t had me do something incredibly dumb like attack another coven for him. I think this is a wonderful way to pay back my debt to him.”

I nodded, “Does this mean we’re going to continue to be friends?”

He smiled and nodded, “I think we can work something out.” He readjusted a bit, making me bob up and down. “Go to sleep. You’re tired.” I complied.

Philip held me all night. It was nice to feel secure in a stranger’s arms. I knew there was nothing Philip could do to hurt me like Grayson had.

When morning came, I put on a little makeup and put on some warm pajamas. I’d make everyone breakfast. I knew everyone would be craving a nice, greasy breakfast.

Well, I couldn’t do the greasy part. Amanda had already beaten me to the kitchen and was already cooking bacon and sausages. Her baby had Amanda craving meat, every kind of meat.

Matt was sitting in a play pin, out of harm’s way from the scalding grease.

So I stuck to French toast. I even went so far as to slice nice, big, thick pieces of bread. I was taking a huge swig of orange juice when two wolves entered the room.

“Good morning ladies.” Philip casually strolled into the kitchen. I nearly choked on my juice.

First, Amanda was startled that I’d just become an orange juice fountain. Then she noticed Philip…shirtless…in the kitchen.

“Who are you?” She asked suspiciously, pointing her bacon-turning-tongs in his direction.

“Philip.” He said, looking to me for some backup.

“At ease.” I faked a laugh, “He’s fine Amanda.”

Her eyes flickered down to his well built body. “Yes, well…” She cleared her throat and turned back to her sizzling bacon. She abandoned the bacon and slammed her tongs down. “What are you thinking Casey?!”

I rolled my eyes. “I’m not having this conversation right now Amanda. We have company.”

She shook her head, “Like it matters. He’s about to take off. If Grayson sees him, Grayson will have his head.”

Philip sat at kitchen’s bar, sipping on coffee from a mug, being a spectator for our little argument.

“It’s none of your business Amanda.” I looked right into her eyes.

She didn’t look away from me. “Of course it’s my business. You’ve been my best friend for five years. I tried to help you the first time this happened. Let me help you this time.”

“Perhaps you should properly introduce me to your friend Casey.” Philip suggested.

Amanda’s eyes whipped to him, then she looked at me. “Sure, introduce us so he can hit the road.” If Amanda were talking to anyone else like that, I would have been happy to watch. I didn’t like being on the receiving end of her wrath. I noticed even Matt was silent, looking at the two of us.

“Amanda.” I returned her glare with one of my own. “This is Philip Madill, Finn’s son.”

Her eyes went wide and she clamped a hand over her mouth. “The Finn?” Philip just nodded. Her reaction told me that was not how she would’ve behaved if she knew who he was.

She slowly looked over at him. “I’m so sorry. I thought you were some random guy she picked up in a bar.”

Philip smile, “While I appreciate your reaction, I have to admit that I do own that title.”

“What?”

I shrugged, “I brought him home last night.”

She slapped my shoulder with the towel. “You hussy!”

I just rolled my eyes and turned my attention to the breakfast.

“He might be safe from Grayson, but-“

“But what?” I turned on her quickly. “Whose side are you on?”

“No ones.”

“You know what he’s done to me. He led me on!”

She huffed. “That’s not the point.”

“Then what? You have a double standard? He can have a girlfriend but I can’t bring home a guy?” I couldn’t keep the rage from my voice.

“No, I’m not saying that!” She said desperately.

“What’s going on in here?” Connor’s voice boomed through the kitchen. Philip just sat at the bar, contently drinking his coffee. He wasn’t surprised at Connor’s sudden appearance.

“Nothing.” I muttered and turned back to the food.

“It didn’t sound like ‘nothing’. I could hear you two from upstairs.”

Amanda stomped out of the kitchen, shaking her head and muttering.

Connor sighed and just stared at me. “What was that about?”

“She called me a whore.” I wanted to yell, but I settle for a raised voice.

“She’s hormonal.” He defended her.

“That doesn’t give her the right to call me a whore.” I argued back. I was not going to let anyone call me a whore.

“Well you were gargling his balls last night.” Chris snickered from behind Connor. I hadn’t noticed him until just then…and I wanted to slap him, right in the face

Philip stood, wiped his hands, “Allow me to introduce myself.” Then after two long strides, he punched Chris right in the jaw. I’d never seen Chris’s body travel so far. I ran around Connor to the living room. He’d landed on the side table on the far side of the room, which was now totally destroyed. I stopped Philip before he could touch Chris again.

“Chris!” I kneeled down beside him, making sure he was still alive.

He groaned in response. “What the fuck was that?”

I couldn’t help but laugh with relief, “That was you getting your ass handed to you.”

Philip kneeled down right next to me, looking at Chris. “You’re going to apologize to her. If you talk to her like that again, the pain you feel now will feel like nothing.”

Chris rubbed his jaw. “Who the fuck are you?” He asked with attitude.

“I’m the one who’s going to mop the floor with you if you don’t listen to me.” Philip threatened.

Chris’ eyes hardened. When he opened his mouth to speak, I covered it with my mouth. “He didn’t mean what he said. He’d apologize.”

Philip sighed, “They shouldn’t say things with such disrespect. You’re a woman.”

How sweet. I smiled slightly. “I know. They’ve just always been snippy jerks.”

“They’ll change quickly if you let me at them.”

I shook my head, “I love them just as they are, even if they are all jerks.”

Philip growled a bit. I looked around. Everyone was in the living room. Even Amanda. She didn’t look mad anymore.

“Fine.” He stood up and backed away from Chris. “I’ll let this one slide. Say something like that again, I won’t be stopped.” It was a warning for everyone.
