Chapter 17

My phone vibrated.

It was only a phone number. One I would never forget. Stephan.

I sighed. I hadn't had contact with him in over 2 years.

"What do you want?" Was my greeting.

I grabbed one of Mason's Red Bulls after checking if the coast was clear. Mason would be pissed. I wouldn’t be able to defend myself either. Even Mason’s name was on them.

"I heard you left the city."

"And? You wanted to kiss and make up?" I couldn’t believe he’d try to pull that.

He chuckled, "No. I know you too well for that. I was thinking we could meet up at the club of your choice and reminisce."

"You're a crazy bastard. I told you to leave me alone, didn't I?"

"Yes, you made that very clear." He was annoyed now.

"Then why do you think I want to talk to you now?"

"Aren't you happy about the beauty I've bestowed unto you?"

I sighed, "Yea, it's awesome." I was quickly getting annoyed.

"Don't be irritated my love. I just want a test drive."

I shook my head, "Look. I'm not going to answer to a fucking booty call. You're a flexible guy Stephan. You should bend over and suck your own dick."

“That was catty.” He muttered. “Then how about dinner. I have some information you might be interested in.”

I sighed, “And what information is that?”

“It’s in regards to your pack’s enemies. I’m sure you want to know what I have.” He waited a moment. “Perfect. I’ll meet you at the carnival; we’ll go to eat from there.”

He hung up on me.

I slammed my phone shut. If Stephan was offering information, which meant that it was good information. He knew if it had to do with my family, I’d want to know what he had. Stephan knew I was going to meet him tonight. I’m sure that made him happy. Me on the other hand, I just wanted to hit someone. I tapped my nails on the counter.

I’d have to change then. If I were going somewhere to meet Stephan, I’m not going to meet him in heels. I don’t want to attract any complements either.

I cursed to myself. I’d need to change without any of the guys spotting me.

I stripped out of my clothes by the time I got to my room. Once there I took off the makeup and rinsed my hair in the bathtub. Once I didn't look like I was going out, I slipped on some jeans and a pullover. Now I had to escape without letting anyone knowing I was meeting Stephan. They would force me to stay.

They wouldn’t believe that Stephan’s information would be worth seeing him. Not after what he did to me.

I grabbed the keys to the car furthest down the driveway. I couldn’t start it close to the house. They’d come investigate, even if Grayson’s girlfriend was there to keep them entertained with her high-pitched witchy laugh.

I started the car when I felt safe I could get away from them if they happened to hear me escaping.

It wasn’t a long drive. Once I got off the pack territory, it wasn’t far to town. I instantly spotted Stephan when I parked at the fair. I wasn’t even out of my car yet when he made his way towards me.

“What’s so important Stephan? You’re not supposed to be near me and you know it.”

He smiled, “You’re so beautiful. Even with the lack of effort, you’re simply to die for.” I sighed. “Image what a full Change could do to you. You’d be irresistible.”

“If this is what you lured me here for, I’m just going to leave.”

He smirked. I could feel people looking in our direction. Stephan had always gotten a lot of attention. He was so good looking.

“I want you to come with me, away from the wolves.”

I wasn’t dumb. I knew what he wanted. “There are no wolves with me.”

His expression turned irritated, “You know what I mean. I want you to come with me. To live with me.”

I shook my head, “No. That’s not even an option right now Stephan.”

He smirked. He was thinking of something. I could see it in his eyes. He took a step away from me. “Your Grayson’s girlfriend is quite the looker, isn’t she?”

I sighed, completely irritated now. Of course Stephan would know. He’d probably had a spy watching my every move. “I’m going to leave.”

He laughed. “They’ve been together now for quite a while. It’s a shame that he didn’t tell you before he started screwing your brains out.” He said spitefully.

I smirked. “Is that jealousy I hear? Stephan’s jealous of someone? I never thought I’d see the day.”

“I’ll be jealous of anyone who’s doing extracurricular activities with what I created.” He hissed.

My smile was now gone. “You did not create me.” I glared at him.

My stomach cried out in hunger during the silence. He smiled and looked at my crossed arms. “How about a truce?”

“I can’t trust you. You tried to turn me into a vampire last time I saw you.”

He sighed, “I think your wolves took enough to account for your revenge.” He sneered.

“What does that mean? No one did anything to you. You just got banished.”

He shook his head in disbelief. “Trust the wolves to keep you in the dark.” He muttered. “Your wolves attacked my coven. They killed most them. Only 10 of us escaped their massacre.”

I shook my head, “They would’ve told me. They wouldn’t have killed everyone.”

Stephan’s eyebrow rose. “Grayson went on a rampage. It appeared as though he relinquished all control to his wolf. Wolves are efficient killers, quiet too.” Stephan looked away, noticeably affected by the memories. I’d never seen Stephan so upset before.

The guys had attacked Stephan’s coven because he had bitten me. Those vampires weren’t all horrible people. I knew Stephan’s coven drank human blood, but some of them chose not to. Some of them could have been spared.

“So does the sacrifice of my coven members warrant a truce?” He asked quietly.

I nodded slightly, “Don’t think this makes us friends.” I warned. I was not going to be his friend again. I couldn’t trust him. I wouldn’t let myself trust him.

He nodded, “I’ll feed you. I’ll give you the information.”

“And in return?”

“I want a nice big hug.” His eyes were glittering mischievously in the lights. He had an ulterior motive. I knew it, I just couldn’t prove it.

“You’ll let me go when I tell you to.”

He nodded and held a fisted hand to his chest. “On my honor I will not do anything the lady detests.”

I nodded. “Fine. Where are we eating?”

He held a hand out towards the carnival. “I may not eat your food, but it does smell good.”

He was right. The greasy carnival food sounded absolutely wonderful. It was already 4, so I didn’t feel guilty when I ate 3 slices of pizza and a funnel cake. I would have gone for the fresh corndogs, but Stephan would’ve imagined something else cylindrical going into my mouth.

We sat on a hay bale watching the normal people walk by. We used to people watch a lot. Poking fun of what other people chose to wear was always fun for us.

“You’re not going to hunt here, right?” I asked, afraid for these people. I knew Stephan fed on humans. He never hid that from me. He looked the passersby up and down. Most people had on cowboy boots, jeans and a version of a plaid shirt. Some people didn’t bother dressing up.

He shook his head, “If I fed here, your werewolves would rip me to shreds.”

“If they knew you were even here they’d rip you to shreds.”

He nodded laughing, “They would. They are rightfully protective of you.”

“Right.” I sighed looking around. “So what’s this information?” I asked looking at him.

He nodded, serious now. “As you know, I pay for information. I’ve paid for information on you and your pack before.” I knew all this. “You seem to have made a fierce enemy my little Casey.”

I glared at him. “You called me here to tell me that I have an enemy?”

He nodded, “She’s making plans to kill you. I’d take it serious if I were you.”

“Whoever she is, she’s not going to get close to me, not with the guys around.”

Stephan nodded, “It’s not her that I worry about. Word is that she’s recruited some rogues. These rogues are known to cause problems for Finn’s packs. I wouldn’t want them coming after you.”

“Well if you hear that she’s coming for me, then I would appreciate a heads up.”

He shrugged, “I have people looking into it. Would you like me to fill you in when I have relevant information?”

I nodded “What’s it going to cost me?”

He smirked, “We’ll negotiate that when the time comes.”

“Oh!” I needed revenge on Grayson and I had just the plan. “I need a favor. One that you’ll give me because of what you did to me.”

“Depends on what you want.” Stephan studied me carefully.

“I need revenge on Grayson for not telling me about his girlfriend.”

“And you would like?” Stephan’s smile grew. He’d give me anything knowing I was going to use it against Grayson.

“I need a guy to take home for the evening. Someone they won’t recognize. Someone who knows the warning signs of werewolves and who can protect himself.”

Stephan smirked, “I’m sure a night with you would be just payment for this lucky fellow.”

I shook my head, “I just want to pretend. I’ll do the heavy kissing and groping, but I’m not going to be going all the way with this guy.”

Stephan nodded, “I think I can work something out for you. Anything to get your wolf’s panties twisted.”

I nodded. “I’m going home. I’ll be going out next Friday night. I’ll be wearing the sparkly dress.”

He nodded. I could see him scanning through a mental rolodex of names of the guys he knew, or those that owed him a favor at least. . I started to leave.

When I was forcefully stopped, I looked back at him. His finger was holding the edge of my pullover. “You owe me a big hug.”

“Fine. Make it quick.” I said defeated. This information was worth hugging Stephan. “And no vampires.”

He chuckled and nodded. “Of course no vampires.”

It was nearly bone crushing. He could have hugged me like a normal being, but no. He had to go bone crushing on me.

I went to bed and got no sleep. I just kept tossing and turning. It only got worse when I heard her moan Grayson’s name. His girlfriend had spent the night and they were going at it. I wanted to hurt him. Grayson’s door had to be open. These rooms are soundproof enough that I usually couldn’t hear anything. But my broken door meant that I had no protection against unwanted sounds. So I did the next thing on my list. I curled in a ball and cried my heart out, as quietly as I could.

Today had just been too much. I have an enemy Stephan’s actually concerned about and Grayson had slept with me knowing he had a girlfriend. I wouldn’t have cared if I didn’t wake up in the morning.
