Chapter 15
I definitely did not feel fantastic when I woke up. I felt like a school bus used me as a speed bump multiple times.
Then the night all came back to me. I had spent the night with Grayson. I groaned. I told myself I wouldn’t do this again.
The room was dark when I opened my eyes. I knew it was morning because I could see it in the curtains. I’m sure I would’ve woken up earlier if the curtains had been open, allowing the sun to scorch my hung-over eyeballs.
Then I noticed I was cuddled all over someone. A very warm someone. I moved my head up to look into the blue eyes of Grayson. He was smiling like I just told a lame joke.
“Shut up.” I groaned as I started to turn over. My leg had been over his belly. When I moved my leg, I rubbed against something that most definitely was not his belly.
His abs wouldn’t have sprung to attention like the object in question.
“You can go.” Grayson noticed my dilemma. “I won’t start anything.”
I sighed resting my head on his shoulder, “I’m not worried about you starting anything.”
He kissed the top of my head and held me tighter to his body. “I’m sorry.”
“For what?” I looked up at him. He didn’t turn away, he just stared right back into my eyes.
“For everything.”
“That’s very cryptic.”
He smiled and kissed my forehead. I closed my eyes. I was still tired and didn’t feel good. I had way too much alcohol last night. Then my stomach flipped.
I pushed away from him and ran to the bathroom. I slammed the door and barely managed to lock it before I puked out anything that remained in my stomach.
I wanted to cry. This was so embarrassing. No guy would think post-drinking puke was hot.
What killed me most was that we could’ve had a great moment. We could’ve talked about everything that happened. We could’ve worked everything out. Everything could have been fixed, right there. But no. I had to drink a bunch of alcohol last night.
I puked twice more before he tried to open the door. When he couldn’t he settled for knocking. “You okay?”
I groaned, “Just kill me now.” I heard him chuckle. “Don’t laugh at me! This is embarrassing.”
“Oh, come on now, it’s just me.” He was still teasing me. I couldn’t even retort because I had to heave again.
“I’ll get you some water and crackers.”
After he left I felt sort of stable. I grabbed a shirt from his dirty laundry hamper. It smelled just like him. I stole some of his mouthwash before opening the door.
He was smiling on the bed when I came out. It wasn’t fair how he looked without a shirt on.
“This isn’t amusing.”
His grin grew. “It’s kind of funny.”
I just glared at him.
“Come here.” He grabbed the package of crackers. “I’ve got food.”
When I was in range, he grabbed the shirt and pulled me towards him. I made sure my face wasn’t facing his.
“You feeling any better?” He kissed my exposed collarbone.
I shook my head, “No I’m so nauseous.”
He chuckled, “I heard you drank a lot.”
“And who did you hear that from?”
“Mason was in the kitchen when I went down there.”
I sighed, “I need a shower.”
When the door swung open, we both looked over. Connor looked over the two of us, then he looked at Grayson with narrowed eyes.
“I need to speak with you in the office.”
Grayson sighed and nodded.
“Don’t make me wait.” Connor threatened. He didn’t even bother looking at me again before slamming the door.
He kissed my cheek since I wouldn’t face him. Werewolves had a great sense of smell, I didn’t want him smelling my breath at all right now.
“I need to go to Connor before he throws a fit.”
I nodded, “He didn’t look too happy when he saw us.”
Grayson smirked, “Well look around sweetheart. Your clothes are all over and you’re in one of my shirts.”
I couldn’t stop the blush that reached my face. He handed me the pack of crackers. “Go take your shower. I need to see what your brother wants.”
Grayson grabbed a shirt and put it on before ushering me slowly out his bedroom door.
I went to my room and took a very, very long shower.
When I finally went downstairs, I found life in the living room. Matt was playing happily in the center of the room with his blocks. Brian looked tired, but not hung over. Amanda was watching TV with Jack and Chris. They didn’t look like they had been drinking last night.
I wished I could just rebound like a werewolf and not have to suffer through it like normal people.
Amanda patted the couch beside her.
“Where’s everyone else?” I asked as I rested my head on her shoulder.
“They’ve taken Monica back to her pack.” She made my head wobble when she laughed, “You reek of alcohol.”
I pouted, “I even took a long shower.”
“It’s like the booze is leaking out of your pores.”
I pointed an accusing finger at Brian, “It’s all his fault.”
Brian huffed, “Right. It’s my fault you tried to drink me under the table.”
“You started it.” I stuck my tongue out at him.
Brian shook his head, “Story is Mason got you plastered.”
I rolled my eyes, “Yea, well, you definitely added to it.”
Carlos strolled into the room with 4 big McDonald’s bag. My stomach growled when I smelled the burgers. He smirked and threw a couple burgers at me.
I happily bit into them. This was just what I needed to nurse my hangover.
Connor and Grayson didn’t come home when Mason did. All Mason said was that they had to take care of some business. I had no idea what that meant. Mason came back with 5 other pack members. That meant that Connor and Grayson could be somewhere alone without any backup. Mason did his best to assure me that “my brother and my lover” would return just fine.
It was almost 4 weeks later when I finally saw my brother. Ok, I didn’t actually see him. It was late because I was working the late shift at the diner this week. But I saw his car, which meant he was home, which also meant that Grayson was home now.
No one was up when I came into the house, so I just settled to see them tomorrow. I was dead tired anyway. I’d want to talk to them about what happened. But it wouldn’t hurt to wait until the morning.
I slept in longer than I meant to. It was one when I opened my eyes. I didn’t leave my room until after two by the time I got ready. I was really sluggish lately. It was like I had cement blocks casted on my feet, but I got pretty. The last time I saw Grayson was the morning after we slept together. I didn’t want to look like a mess again.
The house was pretty empty when I came down the stairs. Then I looked outside. There was a gathering of people. I recognized a few of them from the party. Then I saw Connor and Carlos talking near the barbeque that was grilling something.
Then it hit me, the barbecue. This was the event where I was supposed to meet some of the pack.
I groaned. I wasn’t feeling up to company today. I didn’t want to put on a happy face and act like I didn’t want to throttle my brother for keeping me out of the loop for almost a whole month. When we were in private, he was definitely going to get a piece of my mind.
I heard rustling in the kitchen and decided to investigate that instead.
Amanda was in the pantry. I snuck up on her. She was too focused on her task.
I tickled her sides as I shouted boo. She screamed then turned and smacked me with a smile on her face.
“You jerk!” She laughed off her fear. “You scared me.”
I smiled proudly, “What are you doing in here?”
She shrugged, “Looking for chips and snack stuff. Those guys like eating meat all by itself, but I like variety.” She thrust bags into my arms. “Carry these. I still need to carry out the fruit.”
She opened up the fridge and lifted a huge bowl of cut up fruit.
“You take the chips.” I put them on the counter. “I’ll take the bowel.”
“Don’t you start fussing over me like Brian does!” She huffed, “It drives me crazy.”
I stifled the urge to laugh at her, “Come on. You’re almost 20 weeks pregnant.”
“And not disabled.” She surrendered the bowel to me. “You’ll know what it’s like someday. All these tough werewolves turn into mother hens when their women get knocked up.”
She grabbed the chips with a huff and stomped out to the backyard. Today was a moody day in the pregnant like of Amanda Muse. It was going to be amusing watching Brian try to cope with her.
On her moody days you’d swear that it was Amanda, not Brian, who was the werewolf in the relationship.
I followed Amanda to the table where some food was spread out. I was starving, but I settled for stealing some fruit. Amanda almost smacked me with the oversized spoon when I withdrew my hand with a chunk of watermelon.
“No grazing!” She withdrew her spoon. “You’re not going to be hungry when the food’s done.”
I wanted to roll my eyes at her, but I didn’t. I popped the chunk in my mouth and chomped happily while Amanda glared at me.
No one was safe from her fury today if she was going to be moody with me too.
Brian looked like he had a cloud over his head as he walked up to Amanda. I shook my head at him. He stopped walking towards us and slowly started to retreat.
Amanda didn’t miss my silent warning. She whipped around and pointed her spoon at Brian. “You stay away from me.”
I snuck couple grapes since her back was turned.
“Go say hi to your brother before I smack you.” Amanda warned me pointing her spoon at me now.
I held my hands up, “I’m going.”
She was going to smack someone with something today. I just had to make sure it wasn’t me who received the wrath of the pregnant woman.
