Chapter 13
I didn’t want to wake up. It was the best sleep I’ve gotten in weeks. I felt so refreshed.
Then I opened my eyes. Grayson was sleeping right next to me. I knew he was knocked out. He was dreaming, I could tell by the way his eyes moved back and forth under his eyelids. He was shirtless, just in some boxers.
One look at his abs had me all hot and bothered. Grayson had always been fit, ridiculously fit. Nothing had changed in all the years I’ve been gone. I’d bet that he’s more fit now than when I last saw those abs.
I rolled my eyes at myself. I needed to get out of here before I had sex with him…again. I wanted to, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t let myself be his little whore. I wanted to be with Grayson, in a relationship, a real one. I don’t want to be friends with benefits. He would want to too, I wouldn’t believe anything else.
I carefully crawled out of his bed. I stole one last ogle at his body while biting my bottom lip. If I were his girlfriend, I’d never let him out of bed. But I wasn’t. Not anymore.
I walked my hormones to my room and took a nice cold shower.
No one was out of bed yet when I came downstairs. Usually there was someone up. It must have been a long night and the guys were getting some well deserved sleep. So I needed to take my opportunity while I had it.
I made my way down to the basement. There was a keypad next to the metal door to get to the basement. I’d never had use for the basement, so I’d never noticed. A few minutes searching through my brother’s memories, I found the code.
Each pack member had a different code so they could keep track of who was accessing the basement. If someone escaped, they had someone to blame for not locking the basement down correctly.
When the door unlocked, it hardly budged. I couldn’t push it open, it was way too heavy. So I gave it a gentle shove with my mind. It opened just enough for me to fit through. The door looked like it belonged in a bank instead of this house. I’d bet that this entire room was built like a safe.
They wanted to keep the crazy werewolves from getting out.
I made my way down the stairs. They were cold since they were metal. When I got to the main floor, I saw Monica curled up in a thin blanket. It was cold in here for me, so I’d imaging that she would be freezing right now since werewolves tend to run a bit hotter than humans.
There were three cages. They were all shiny, so I’d assume they were covered in silver to deter the prisoners from touching the bars. There were cots with a blanket and pillow on each. Everything looked like it was pretty cheap. They probably don’t want anything that would be expensive to replace in a cage where a werewolf on a rampage would destroy it.
Monica glared at me when she saw me. I couldn’t help but smile at her. I liked seeing her pissed off. It made me feel so warm and fuzzy inside.
“Sleep good?” I asked as I walked up to her cell.
She just glared with all the hatred she could muster up. “Go fuck yourself.”
She made me smile. “You should have gone home with your pack.”
She rolled her eyes, “I should have killed you. Then this would all be worth it.”
“Honey, you couldn’t kill me in my sleep.” I taunted. It was bad, but I had to. It was so easy to get her riled up.
“I’ll have to test that theory someday.” She said with a smirk.
“Once you get out of this cage, you mean.”
She nodded looking away. “So when are they coming to collect me?”
I shrugged, “I’m not here to deliver any messages. I don’t know what my brother plans to do with you.”
She sighed and looked me in my eyes. “How was your little boyfriend last night? He was pretty pissed off when he locked me in here.” She showed some scratches on her arm. I’d bet they had been from her struggling against him.
“Grayson was a little prissy, but he’s not my boyfriend.”
“Yea, right.” She rolled her eyes. “No one misses the way he looks at you, or how fast he was to protect you from me.”
I leaned against the cage. “I don’t need to be protected from you. You’re not the bad ass you think you are. The guys were tougher as teens then you are right now.”
“Then I guess it’s a good thing you’re sucking enough dick for their protection.”
I laughed, “No need to get nasty. Between the two of us, I’m sure your tally would rank higher than mine.”
She glared. “Oh, cause you’re the all knowing.”
I smirked, “I can just look at you and see the whore you are.”
When she charged the cell, I didn’t flinch. She wouldn’t pass the barrier of silver. She’s been in here all night. She was becoming more and more sensitive to the silver. It was wearing her out. I could see it in her eyes. She wasn’t even close to the bars; she just wanted to make me flinch.
“I’m not a whore.” She sneered in my face. “I did what I had to do to get revenge for my mate.”
“Your mate?” I could laugh. She nodded. “Kevin was not your mate. Your alpha said he wanted to make me his mate.”
She shook her head. “He was going to go through the process with me. He was just having a little fling with you.”
“A fling? He was with me for almost a year Monica.”
She nodded, “He wanted an in with this pack. Your boys are the new hot topic in the werewolf circuit.”
“And why are they such hot press?”
She smirked, “The boys not keeping you in the loop?” She even laughed at me. “I guess they want to keep their little princess safe.”
“Tell me why Kevin wanted in my brother’s pack Monica.”
She smirked. “I’m not telling you shit. Ask your precious little brother.”
“No. I think I’ll just figure it out.”
I tapped into her mind.
She had been with Kevin for years before he met me, before I even got into the city. The only thing she knew about me was the fact that Kevin had been cheating on her with me. She wasn’t the other woman like I thought she was; I was the other woman.
Monica put her hand on her forehead. “This room is giving me a headache.”
I smirked. It wasn’t the room. It varied from person to person how my abilities affected others. Most of the time nothing happened, but I was happy that I could give her a headache. I’m sure it would be excruciating as I continued my search through her mind.
I searched for any mention of the guys. I couldn’t find very much. She had a lot of useless memories.
Her memories when it came to what she knew of my pack were fuzzy to me. It couldn’t read them. It was like there was a lock on her mind. The harder I tried the more resistance I got.
Monica passed out. The pain got to be too much for her.
Then everything short circuited violently. I was pushed back by some invisible force. I crashed into the cell behind me. My back throbbed where the bars connected. My head pounded from the forced of the invisible blast.
Something was protecting those memories. It was apparently a very important secret. It was some powerful power that went into keeping those memories a secret.
I groaned as I sat up. I’d be feeling this for the next couple days, I was sure of it.
I slowly sat up. When I tried to stand I was instantly dizzy. I clenched my eyes shut as the world around me spun, not bothering to equalize. I felt like I was going to pass out. I slid down on my butt. I wasn’t going anywhere just yet.
Then I heard the heavy door up the stairs open. I sighed. I was going to be in trouble since I was caught down here. I tried scanning for whoever it was. I couldn’t hear anything. I couldn’t sense anyone.
I looked over at the stairs confused. It was Chris. I’ve been able to read his thoughts before. It had never been hard. Now I couldn’t hear anything. It was like whatever I was hit with knocked out my abilities.
Maybe it was a witch’s spell on Monica’s mind. They could hide memories from intruders. I’d bet that they could knock out my powers for a little while.
When Chris noticed me, his eyes grew wide with shock as he quickly made his way towards me. “Casey! What are you doing down here?”
He was on his knees in front of me now, checking for injuries. “What happened?”
I shook my head, “Nothing. Can you take me to my room?”
He nodded and lifted me up. He stole a glance at Monica. “What happened to her?”
I groaned and looked at her, “She’s just passed out.”
“Do I want to know what you did?” Chris asked sounding concerned.
“I didn’t hurt her. I didn’t even touch her.”
Chris rolled his eyes as he started carrying me up the stairs, “You don’t have to touch someone to hurt them. We both know what you can do.”
I sighed, “I did not harm the woman.”
He nodded and punched in his access code. He pulled the door open with little effort, though a little awkward because he was carrying me too.
“I have to tell Connor I found you down here.” He warned as he carried me through the house.
I just nodded, “I expect so.”
“Whose code did you hack?” He asked as he pushed open my (still) broken door with his foot.
“Connors.”
Chris chuckled, “He’s going to be so pissed.”
I rolled my eyes, “Yes. I know. I’m in trouble.”
Chris laid me on my bed and tucked me in. “I’m going to get Brian. He should check you out.”
I nodded and waved him out of my room.
