Shadow needs are different from human needs and it's pretty important to understand them

-Shadows do not need water, they do need food.

-Shadows don't need to clean themselves as their bodies do that on their own. It is said that most prefer to shower or bathe from time to time though.

-Shadows don't get lonely fast as shadows are still rare at this point of time. Most evolved to cope with loneliness

-None of these rules apply to shadows by defect (except the loneliness one)
