Chapter 10: No Investigation?

-Nekomaru P. O. V.-

"Okay, guys. Is everyone ready to start their training!?" I asked the group.

We had all gathered in the best place for outdoor training. The beach on the second island.

"Yeah!" A scream of teamwork came from the group, most noticeably from Hina and Akane.

"Before we start, we need to make everyone who wanted to come is here! A team manager's job is making sure that the whole team is together!" I told them.

"Here, Nekomaru." Little Chihiro handed me a piece of paper with a bunch of names on it. "I wrote down everyone's names before we left the restaurant."

I took the paper and patted the kid's head. "Thanks, Little Hero. Now, time for role call!"

"Aoi Asahina!"

"Here!"

"Sakura Ogami!"

"I am present."

"Akane Owari!"

"I'm ready, Coach Nekomaru!"

"Nekomaru Nidai!"

Nobody answered.

"Hey guys, why isn't anyone answering?" I asked.

"Umm, Nekomaru? That's you." Komaru told me.

"Oh yeah! Ah ha ha! I'm here, too!" I said, cheerfully.

"Yuta Asahina!"

"Ready to go!"

"Komaru Naegi!"

"Ready to go, coach!"

"Mondo Owada!"

"I'm fucking here, get on with it!"

"Chihiro Fujisaki!"

"I'm here as well."

"Taichi Fujisaki!"

"I'm as ready as I'll ever be."

"Shirokuma!"

"Ready and willing, coach!"

"And last, but not least, Twogami!"

"I'm here, Nekomaru. Can we start now?"

I shoved the paper into my pocket, in case I'd need it later.

"Okay then. Before we begin the first part of our regiment, we need to do some stretching! Everybody, line up, side by side!"

Everyone lined up, just like I ordered. I stood in the middle, between Hina and Akane.

"Now, stretch! Follow my lead!" I began to lead the stretch. Everyone followed along, some took a bit to get the hang of it, but after a minute, everyone was in perfect sync!

Well, except for Twogami. He couldn't really lean too much to his sides.

-Chiaki P. O. V.-

"Are you okay, Hajime?" I asked him as we slowly walked out of the restaurant.

He sighed. "Yeah. I'm okay. I'm sorry, Chiaki. You know how bad Nagito was before, and I would've easily forgiven him, if he hadn't... you know..."

"What did he do?"

He seemed to not want to answer the question. "Well... As I said back there, he did something that I wasn't sure I'd be able to forgive him for. But, I guess I can, now that I have it back."

"What did you lose, Hajime?"

He blushed. "N-Nothing..."

When we arrived at my cottage, Hajime sat down on my bed as I went through my games. "Do you have a console preference?"

He shook his head. "Not really. But, let's not do a dating sim. I'm not in the mood to teach you right now."

I paused for a moment.

He remembered... I don't really want to play them right now anyway, but... I'm happy that he remembered... I think...

I pulled three games out of my pile and showed them to him.

"I have three options to start you off. We could start with a classic murder mystery series, Ace Attorney, for my 3DS. I have the whole series, so we can start from the beginning. I also have an action game, that also has quite the bit of emotion in it. The Last Of Us. I even got the remastered edition, to boot! Or, if it's more your style, we could work together to play Super Mario 3D World. And when I mean work together, I mean we play this TheRunawayGuys style, not Game Grumps."

He looked at the three games for a minute. "How about The Last of Us? I want to sit down and play on the big TV."

I nodded, putting the other two games back. "Okay. But a word of warning, the beginning is very sad, too."

He laughed. "How bad can it be?"

-Twenty minutes later-

Hajime was crying on my shoulder as I patted his back.

"It's okay, Hajime. The game gets less sad later on." I told him.

"R-Really?" He looked at me, trying to wipe his tears away.

"...Not really..."

He started crying again.

"Uh... Let's finish this game later. Let's play a different one." I leaned over and grabbed my copy of Kirby's Epic Yarn. "This one's more of a playful, feel good game. The people who made it are even called "Good Feel"! The Game Grumps agree! This game is just so happy! And even better, it has a co-op option!"

Hajime finally smiled again. "That sounds like fun. Let's play it!"

I put the game in and we started to play.

I don't know why, but when I looked over at Hajime, and saw his smile...

I got a weird feeling in my chest...

-Nagito P. O. V.-

"W-Would you like a shot, N-Nagito?" Mikan asked me, holding out a syringe.

I shook my head. "No. I just thought that you would like to spend time here."

"B-But, if I can't help anyone, w-why would I want to spend t-time at the p-pharmacy?" she asked.

"Well, there's actually something I wanted to talk to you about." I told her.

"R-Really? W-What is it?" She seemed interested, but also nervous, probably thinking I was going to say that I hated her.

Before I could begin, the lights in the pharmacy went out.

It was pitch black.

And that was the last thing I remember.

Aside from Mikan's horrified scream.

-Makoto P. O. V.-

We left the restaurant to get away from that awkward moment.

"Well, Kyoko. I guess we can go investigate the island now, to see if there's a way off."

She didn't stop walking.

"Hey! Kyoko! Where are you going!?"

She looked back at me. "Makoto. You said we were going to the diner. Are you just going to go back on your word?"

I was stunned. Kyoko doesn't want to investigate? "What are you talking about? Do you not want to get off this island?"

She smiled with that smile that she does when she enjoys something. "Do you really think there's a way off of here? And even so, do you think that it's possible to leave with it?"

I was confused, as usual with her. "What do you mean?"

"Izuru said that we're in a biosphere far out in space. Normally, I would doubt that, due to the millions of scientific impossibilities, but after seeing all of our dead friends, even I have to admit that this is real."

"Kyoko?"

"Unfortunately, this does not seem to be the perfect paradise. Izuru set the Class Trail system up for kidnappings to play on idiots like Hifumi or Kazuichi. People who are delusional and obsessed with a single person. People who are madly in love like idiots. So, I think the smartest move is to just stay here. And if I ever want to solve a mystery, I can wait a few days for someone to get kidnapped."

"You're not even the least bit suspicious? I mean, this is Izuru we're talking about here, Kyoko."

She let out a small laugh. "True, but one thing he did made me very curious. He gave Chihiro Alter Ego, which would be the easiest way to hack out of the biosphere. Also, there is literally no reason why Izuru would lie when he said we were way out here. I believe that he wants to enjoy everyone's romantic drama as well as more class trials, and this scenario is the only ways that he can get both."

"I'm not gonna lie, Kyoko. I never thought that you would think like that." I chuckled.

"Well, to be fair, I'm pretty sure some of the smarter people also figured the same thing. Byakuya immediately went to go read, and Celeste went to get some tea. Makoto, are you going to take me to the diner or not?"

I smiled. "Sure, Kyoko. It's time to have a bit of a break, at least for a day."

And we headed for the second island diner, our arms linked together.
