I walked in as the lunch bell rang. I went to the office to sign in. Sarah was waiting for me there. "Where have you been," looking more concerned than angry. She has puffy red eyes. " I needed some time to work things out, " I say, but something else has caught my attention. Three men dressed up in black suits are approaching us from down the hall. The way they're briskly walking has a sort of sinister manner to it. Maybe I've seen too many movies but don't trust them. I pretend not to see them. I go into the office. The school secretaries are surrounded by five similarly dressed men. Guns are pointed all around the room. At us and the secretaries. The three men from the hallway step into the room with pistols drawn. They push me into the center of the room. One of them has Sarah. Around the room, six people are armed. They have all turned their weapons toward me. One of the unarmed men step into the principal's office. Through the glass door, I can see he's making a phone call. Principal Evens is sitting at his desk calmly. He catches my glance. His face is expressionless, but there's a glimmer in his eye. Even after all this I don't say a word. Sensei says that talking takes away your focus. I force the man holding Sarah into receiving a flare that could kill. Behind me, I hear the principal's door being opened. "Boss says lock the office doors and wait for him." The man closest to the doors locks them, unsure what good locking a glass door could do. I imagine myself throat chopping the man holding Sarah, but restrain myself. I close my eyes and take a deep breathe. They're after me I realize. My gut tightens. I don't want to wait for anyone. I think about throat chopping the man again. I really concentrate on that thought. I feel as if a doorway opens up in my memories. No, a doorway DID open up in my memories. I climb through the doorway desperate to escape my situation. I shut the door behind me and suddenly reality is ripped away from me. I'm in nothing falling in every direction.
