Chapter 10

Choice.

Choice is an act choosing between two or more possibilites.

Simple and sweet meaning nothing needed to be added there. But Choosing, this is where it gets complicated.

Choose means pick out (someone or something) as being the best or most appropriate of two or more alternatives.

The above meaning of choose would be better for something, not someone who means the world to you and more than anything.

So, choosing between a apple and a pear maybe much easier than choosing between two people you love and would do anything for.

It all comes down to choices, choices. How do you know if you are making the right choice? Why put yourself in a position to choose?

Too much choices to choose,

If wrong, too much to lose.

So, why take the risk and choose?

Maybe you don't have to choose. Maybe you don't have to lose. Maybe you can have both, if not all.

*********

Angela hadn't known that being separated from her best friend of eleven years would left her with the feeling of losing something great. She had received mulitple text messages from Christian apologizing for pushing her down. She had forgiven him for that and had told him so.

Angela worries that her friendship with him has been broken behind repair and she has lost her best friend, maybe for good.

When Christian had asked her to choose, in that moment it broke her heart and left her speechless. How could she choose between the guy she loves and her best friend?

How could she choose between the guy that had saved her life, when they had first met over the summer and fell in love with or her best friend she had known her whole life?

Micheal had pulled her out of the road just as she was crossing, Angela wearing her headphone hadn't heard the speeding car. And from then on they became friends, until they became much more. Angela hadn't told Christian about the incident because she knew he would freak out and lecture her on taking precautions and her safety, just what a protective brother would do.

Angela fell in love with the guy who had saved her life and became her hero.

So, how could she choose between them?

How could she choose between her hero and love to her best friend and brother figure?

She couldn't. So, she didn't.

She didn't choose between them.

Taking the easier route out, she turned and walked away leaving him there, not knowing she was hurting him, breaking his heart.

Now, it has been two weeks and Christian hadn't spoken or texted her apart from apologizing about the accident and that was a week ago. Christian had kept his distance, not even sparing her a glance in the crowded hallway in school. Especially, when she was with Micheal.

Angela missed him, she missed her best friend.

"Just get out!"

Angela heard her mom's voice again breaking through her lost thoughts. 'What the hell is going on now?' She asked herself as she left her room to see what was going on.

"Carmela, please hear me out," John begged. John is Angela's mom new boyfriend. So much for father figures.

"I SAID GET OUT!" Carmela shouted in angrier. "Hear what out? That you are a lying bastard. I don't need you in my life. Just get the hell out and don't come back."

"Fine, you're nothing but an old whole anyway." John said before slamming the front door shut. Just as Angela walked into the living room, she saw her mom by the door with her head rested on it.

Angela stood in her spot watching her mom as worry creeped into her heart for her. She has seen her mom break down so many times than she can remember.

"How much of that have you heard?" Carmela asked her daugther grabbing her attention.

"Just enough," Angela answered quietly.

"Well, congratulations honey you'll be getting your wish after all, you won't be getting a new dad anymore." Carmela told her in a sarcastic tone.

"I didn't want one in the first place," Angela said to her.

Signing, Carmela murmured, "It's doesn't matter anymore because I am done, so done with men."

"Good, you need time to heal anyway after what happened with Steve." Angela's voice filled with happiness that her mom will take a break from men and concern for how she took things when she ended her relationship with Steve.

"I don't need time to heal. What I need is something strong to drink," Carmela said before going into the liquor cabinet and put a bottle of bourbon to her lips gulping it down.

"Don't you think you should slow down? You don't want to end up drunk and senseless, now do you?" Angela questions as her mom drank her life away.

"Don't you think you should mind your own business? Hmm... Men are assholes. Where is that friend of yours anyway?...What's his name?" Angela knew her mom was asking about Christian. "Oh yeah, Christian. Where is he? Has he finally left you? He hasn't been over in the past two weeks and your both joined at the hips. What did you do to push him away, ugh? Were you being ungrateful again? You are just like your useless dad, ungrateful."

As Carmela took another big gulp of the dark substance, Angela knew it was just the alcohol talking through her mother's lips.

But hearing her best friend's name caused her to feel the longing she tried to bury come to the surface. Her mom walked pass her murmuring to herself as she slammed her room door shut, where she will probably soon pass out.

Angela took out her phone and called Christian, but it went to voicemail on all six times she tried. She needed someone to talk to, she needed to hear Christian's voice telling her everything will be okay, she needed her best friend.

'Maybe he is avoiding you' Her subconscious said.

Angela shook she head in denial, 'No, he's probably just busy and will call me back when he sees my six missed calls. Chris, may have been pissed the other day and is giving me space, waiting on me to phone him.'

'Yeah right, keep telling yourself that. After how you treated him and took Micheal's side over his, I wouldn't talk to you either' Her mind sass in reply.

'Shit up' Angela thought.

'Make me, I would totally avoid you too'

Angela felt like screaming. She phoned someone she knew would pick up on the first ring. "Come get me." She said before hanging up.

She needed a distraction from her overbearing thoughts and who would be the best distraction, if not for her boyfriend.

Checking on her mom, Angela took the almost empty bottle from her hand, where she was fast asleep on her bed. Taking a trash can, Angela left it at her mom's bed side in case she wake up wanting to puke, with some headache pills and a glass of water.

'HONK'

Hearing Micheal's car outside, she grabbed her stuff and head out. Angela found Micheal quite handsome and charming with a jaw dropping, dimple smile. He could have any girl falling at his feet, but he chose her, he chose to fall in love with her too.

The smile that meets Angela had her heart skipping a beat and had her smiling in return.

"Hey babe, where to?" Micheal asked after opening the door for her and kissing her cheek.

"Anywhere," Angela told him as she turned on the radio. Thoughts of her best friend plagued her mind causing her to sign deep. Micheal noticing this asked her, "Is everything ok?"

"Yeah... It's just that I think Christian might be avoiding me. I've been calling him but he won't pick up." Angela said sharing her concerns.

"What kind of friend is he to be ignoring you just because he can't accept us being together?" Micheal asked annoyed hearing about Christian.

"Maybe... he's not really avoiding me...maybe he's just busy, right?"

"Angie, he was so pissed off the other day. You know how much he hates me, he even kissed you just to have a reason for us to fight. Christian won't accept our relationship and I don't think he ever will. You need to consider letting him go, if he is purposely avoiding you, no true friend does that. You deserve better Angie, you deserve the best," Micheal told her softly.

"Yeah, you're right."

'I know Christian might be pissed off but it's no excuse to avoid and ignore me, that's not what a true friend does' Angela thought.

"Remember I am always here for you, love." Micheal said smiling as he kissed the back of her hand while he drove with the other. "You know he might try to tear us apart right?"

"Why would he do that?" Angela asked before thinking.

"Because he doesn't want to see us together. He may try to tell you lies about me, like I am cheating on you or something ridiculous to break us up. He hates me that much to do it," Micheal said looking at her for a second before looking back at the road a head.

"Yeah, don't worry about that. Christian will never stoop that low. He isn't like that. He may be angry at us for being together, but I know he wants me to be happy and he won't try to break us apart," Angela said with conviction.

"Okay, if you say so, but know that I love you and I would never do anything to hurt you, Angie." Micheal kissed her hand again gently.

"And I love you too, I know you love me too much to hurt me," Angela smiled.

"There's that dazzling smile I long to see. Cheer up love, you are too beautiful to be upset." Micheal said as he pulled the car to a stop, parking. "Come on love, let's have some fun."

Angela laughs getting out of the car with her boyfriend hand in hand, her best friend forgotten at the moment. The prefect distraction she needed from her thoughts.

Thoughts of her now forgotten friend, Christian.
