Every Minute Counts *In Memory of Amanda
Based on a true story
I remember my parents telling me. “Every minute counts in your life,” they say, “anything can happen in a blink of an eye.” I nodded my head to showing my parents that I understand. Then, life went on. I went into high school; they would keep on telling me that saying. I heard it every day from them. I would half nod not really paying any attention.
I got immune to it. Everything came into my life, school, drama that came with it, homework (study), playing the flute, writing in my stories, friends, and family. I notice that you get into life that you don’t understand … that anything can happen. I know what you are thinking, “I know, I know,” but the truth is. You don’t … you don’t know what you have until it’s gone.
This very day, August 3, 2011; I was enjoying life (summer time before school starts), I went to the mall where I got a beautiful white dress, the design on it was circles, and it was very comfortable. Also, I got a pair of black pants. That’s when my mom and I ate at Cheesecake Factory, it was my first time … it was turning out to be a good day.
We have an in ground pool in our backyard, so we had to get the water checked at the pool place. Once, we got that done. We headed home, during the time I didn’t know what it meant, but now that I think back on it. I remember seeing a police car driving past us, when we went behind Kroger. It only had lights on, there were no sirens.
I remember asking my mom. “Why does he just have his lights on?”
She pulled over waiting for the police man to pass. “I think he is just perusing.”
I nodded my head as we went back to listening to music from my iPod. I went home. It was around 4:50; that was when my friend and I went to go feed my other friend’s cats. I didn’t know until later that day that someone was dying right then and there…
My mother was on the computer when she piped up. “Do you know a girl named Amanda Borsos?”
The name had a familiar ring to it. I had a confusion written all over my face. “I think so..”
“Come here,” she said. She had urgency in her voice. I walked over towards her into the computer lab. She was on her computer when she repeated herself. “Do you know a girl named Amanda Borsos?”
I was still unsure who this person was, yet. It still had a ring to it.
“I’m not for sure,” I replied. “Why?”
My mother covered her mouth. “She died today.”
My eyes grew huge like golf balls. “What?” It shocked me … I’m not going to lie.
“Her ex boyfriend killed her today and took his own life,” my mom explained trying to figure out what Amanda looked like.
“That’s horrible,” I whispered as I watched her look for pictures. She typed it on Facebook (this is where she got the information and from the news) and when the picture popped up. We, both, gasped.
“I know her,” I mumbled under my breath. She was in my study hall class, I didn’t know her personally, but she was so quiet. She didn’t have that many friends in that class. She had the coolest hair, blonde on the top, red and black under which I remember one day complementing it. I wanted to try to be friends with her … but never got the chance to.
I felt horrible as sat there on the ground. I couldn’t image what her family and friends were feeling. It’s all over Facebook now. I sat there imaging what if that happened to one of my friends … although I didn’t know her why we were still acquaintances and I cried. But this story isn’t about me. It’s about Amanda Borsos. I believe that she didn’t deserve this … but sadly, this is life. It happens … then I think about: what were her last words to her family and friends. Every minute counts that what Amanda helped me to understand today.
Keep her family and friends in your prayers. This is a terrible loss. RIP Amanda Borsos … and happy birthday.
