Chapter 22
Here I am, standing in the same church that I stood in just six months earlier as a bridesmaid. This time, I'm the bride, waiting to walk to Sam to become his wife.
My father is at my side, and my arm is hooked around his. "Mallory, you look beautiful."
"Thanks, Dad," I say, fighting back the tears welling up in my eyes and threatening to spill over.
The music changes, telling us that it's time to go.
Dad pats my hand reassuringly. "Are you ready?"
"I am. More than ever." I successfully blink back the tears.
My dad kisses the top of my head, and we turn to walk up the aisle. My eyes lock with Sam's. He's the only one in the room I see. As I get closer, I see Sam's eyes wet and glistening. I smile and mouth "love you" to him. He mouthed "beautiful" back.
When I reach Sam, my dad kisses my cheek and shakes Sam's hand. "Take care of my girl," he says.
"I promise that I will."
My dad sits beside my mom. She's already sniffing into her tissue.
Sam takes both of my hands into his. When our eyes meet, I can see the love this man has for me deep within his dark eyes. As far as we're concerned, no one else exists in this church.
Sam recites his vows to me, his voice cracking, full of emotions. "Mallory, my love for you is everlasting. When I first laid eyes on you, I knew that I wanted to be the man to make you laugh, keep you safe, and be there for you no matter what life throws our way. I want to fill our home with the laughter of our children. My heart desires to grow old with you and tell you daily how much I love you. I'll always be at the door with a glass of wine when you've had a bad day, and I promise always to put you first. You are my life, and I love you."
Tears stream down my cheeks, and my heart explodes with love for this man.
I take a deep breath to control my emotions before speaking my vows. "Sam, your patience and willingness to wait for my heart to catch up with yours shows me the depth of your love. I'm in awe of your love for me every day. You have given me back my laughter and healed my broken heart. I promise to spend my remaining days on this earth pouring my love on you. I also look forward to having our children's laughter fill up our home. You are my love, my life, my everything. I vow to be there for you. I love you with my entire heart."
After saying our vows, the pastor performs the ring ceremony and pronounces us man and wife. The moment comes when he tells Sam to kiss his bride, and he takes me into a strong embrace and kisses me passionately. When he pulls away, I feel weak in my knees and hear the applause of the guests. We both turn to face them, smiling. We opted to dismiss by rows to greet every one of our family and friends attending.
When we get to the back row, I feel Sam stiffen. "Babe, what's wrong?"
My eyes follow where he's looking.
"What the hell is she doing here?" he says, frowning.
"Halie? Seriously." I say, surprised.
"She must have come with my cousin Tadd; they've been on and off again for years. Unbelievable." Sam shakes his head in irritation.
"Yeah, remember that I told you he had a plus one," I respond.
"It never even occurred to me that it would be her. I thought that Tadd was over her. I'm sorry, Mal," Sam apologizes.
We continue to smile while we dismiss the back row on the side across from Halie.
"Don't be sorry; Halie doesn't bother me anymore," I assure him, squeezing his hand.
Sam kisses my cheek. "I love you, Mrs. Daniels."
I can't help the huge grin that spreads across my face hearing Sam call me Mrs. Daniels. We get to Halie's row, and the guests start exiting, congratulating us.
Halie steps out of the row. "Congratulations. You look beautiful."
"Thank you," I reply sincerely.
Sam steps up beside me. "Tadd, Halie, thank you for coming."
Halie goes in for a hug; Sam, with just one arm, hugs her quickly and then reaches his hand out to his cousin. Once we finish greeting everyone, they all leave for the reception. The wedding party stays to get pictures taken.
The wedding party is ready to make an entrance into the reception.
The DJ announces, "Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce the wedding party. Sister and brother-in-law of the groom, Samantha, and Timothy Redding. Friends of the bride and groom, Kendall and Scott Denson. Now, why are we all here today? Let's celebrate the union of Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Daniels."
"I love you, Dr. Daniels," I say, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek.
"I love you more than my own life, Mrs. Daniels."
We spent the rest of our night eating, dancing, and talking with every guest attending.
I'm chatting with Sammy and Kendall when my husband comes behind me.
He takes me into his arms. "Mind if I steal my wife away?"
Kendall smiles. "Not at all. She's all yours."
"What's up?" I ask while He drags me away.
"We're leaving." He smirks and continues to pull me towards the exit.
I look up at Sam, surprised, "What?"
Sam wiggles his brows. "It's honeymoon time, my love. I can't wait to get you alone."
"I didn't bring my suitcase." I notify him of my predicament.
"I got it," he states proudly.
"What about our guests?" I ask, looking back at those enjoying the festivities.
He grins with a glint in his eyes. "Not invited."
"Shouldn't we at least say goodbye?" I challenge him.
I didn't realize Sam changed directions and moved me toward the DJ.
When we get there, Sam takes the microphone from the DJ. "Friends and family, Mallory and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for coming to support Mallory and me in our marriage. You all mean the world to us. Now, I'm stealing my bride away. Please stay and enjoy the celebration."
Sam waves and practically drags me out of the door to a waiting limousine.
It's then that I realize that I'm still in my wedding dress. "Sam, I can't wear my wedding dress to the airport."
Sam pulls out a duffel bag and hands it to me.
"What's this?" I ask.
"A sundress and sandals to go to the tropics in," he replies with a sly grin.
I wrap my arms around his neck and kiss him. "I love you. You thought of everything; I'm impressed."
Half an hour later, we pulled up to the airport. Sam and I changed and left our wedding clothes in the limo. He had instructed the driver to deliver our belongings to Sammy and Tim's house.
I clap my hands. "I'm so excited. I'll finally find out where you're taking me."
Sam laughs and takes our luggage into the airport, and I follow close behind him with our carry-on bags.
We walk up to the ticket agent, and I hear Sam tell her our destination. "Two first-class tickets to Tahiti."
I scream, "Tahiti! Yeah!" I can't contain my excitement.
Sam kisses my forehead. "Are you happy, Babe?"
I nod wildly. "Yes. I've always wanted to go to Tahiti."
"I know." Sam winks at me as we get our tickets.
I look up at his smiling face. "Thank you so much; this is a dream come true."
He gently kisses my lips. "You, my love, are my dream come true."
Five Years Later
"Honey? Sam." I shuffle over to the bottom of the stairs and call him again, "Sam!"
He peaks his head around the corner. "What do you need, Mal?"
I unintentionally rub my very pregnant belly. "Everyone is going to be here in thirty minutes, and I can't reach the big bowl on the top shelf."
"Sadie won't go to sleep. What do you want me to do?" He inquires, running his fingers through his hair.
"Leave the baby. If she doesn't put herself to sleep in the next half hour, I'll give it a try."
Sam trots down the stairs and enters the kitchen to get the bowl down for me. "Anything else that I can help with, sweetheart?"
"Everyone is bringing a dish to share. If you could get the cooler ready, that would be great. The chicken is marinating and will be ready to grill in twenty minutes. I'm just going to make a salad."
He kissed my cheek and then headed into the garage. After I finish up the salad, I go up to check on Sadie. I peek in, and she's fast asleep.
I get to the bottom of the steps, and there's Sam.
"You know that I would have checked in on her."
I pat his shoulder. "I know. I don't mind the stairs, Sam."
"Is she out?" he asks.
"She is."
He touches my belly. "How is my little man?"
"He's perfect."
We're in the backyard with Sammy and Tim and their four-year-old twins, Allie and Andy; Kendall and Scott and their three children, seven-year-old Benny, five-year-old Cassie, and two-year-old Lily. Our three-year-old Sadie is running around chasing them all.
Sam comes up and wraps his arm around my waist. "What's going through that pretty little head of yours."
I turn my face up to look at him. "I was thinking how blessed we are. Who would have thought five years ago that we would have almost seven children among the three couples?"
He squeezes me gently. "I know. I love our life."
I lean back into Sam's chest as he rubs his hands over my swollen belly.
"Me, too, Babe. I Love Every Little Thing."
