Ireland

After what felt like forever, Tony and I landed in Cork. It was completely dark outside, because it was around one in the morning. I'd definitely be going straight to bed as soon as I got home.

"How are we getting to your house?" Tony asked.

"My parents are parked outside, I called them hours ago."

"Oh, that's very kind of them."

"Yeah, I can't wait to see them," I replied with a smile.

It would be great to see my parents and Conor again; it felt like I hadn't seen them in ten years.

We got out luggage from the conveyor belt, then went outside and I looked around for my dad's car. I didn't know the make, but I'd recognise it when I saw it; the car was bright red and pretty big, with a spoiler on the back.

"Roisin!" I heard them call and looked round. They were to my left and walking quickly towards us. My mum was thin with long black hair and freckles on her face and my dad was muscular, very tall and had short, blonde hair.

"Aww, it's so great to see you both again," I said and hugged them.

"We're delighted to have you back," Mum replied.

"Yes, you have to come home more often.

"Alright, I'll try." I giggled.

I loved seeing my parents again and couldn't wait to talk to them more tomorrow.

"This is Tony, my fiance." I held up my ring finger.

"Oh my, you're getting married!" Mum exclaimed.

"Aww, I'm so happy for you," Dad replied.

"Thank you."

"Hello, it's nice to finally meet you both," Tony said.

"Yes, you too." Mum nodded, then hugged Tony.

"Good to meet you," Dad said and shook his hand.

"Right, can we go now? I'm exhausted." I rubbed my eyes.

It was pretty late and flying was always stressful, which drained my energy. I could sleep for an entire year.

"Oh, you poor thing. We'll be home soon," Mum replied.

We followed my parents to the car and got into the back. The seats were very comfortable and the car was pretty warm, I could easily sleep until we got home.

"I think I'll have a nap," I said and closed my eyes.

"Alright, I'll wake you when we arrive," Tony said.

"Thanks."

I managed to sleep the whole way from the airport to Kilcrohane, but I was still quite tired. We went into my house, which was much smaller than the one I shared with Tony in New York. Conor came out of the kitchen, smiling. He looked the same as always, with pale, white skin and quiffed blonde hair.

"Hey, I haven't seen you in ages." He walked over and hugged me.

"I know, I've missed you."

"Hello, I'm Tony. It's nice to meet you." He held out his hand

"Aye, you too," Conor replied and shook it.

"Right, I really need to get to bed," I said. My eyes were quite stingy and my body was aching to lay down.

"Alright then, goodnight," Conor said.

I went upstairs with Tony; I'd really missed this lovely wee house. Before moving to America, I'd lived in it my whole life.

"Which room am I sleeping in?" Tony asked.

"Mine, my family will be fine with it."

"Okay, thanks."

We went into my room and it was just how I'd left it, with bright, yellow walls, toys in the corner and a blue double bed. There was a big, dark brown wardrobe, a chest of drawers and a bedside table as well.

"This is a nice room."

"Thanks."

I closed the door, then opened my suitcase and got out my pyjamas. I couldn't wait to be changed and in bed, so that I could sleep properly. Tony and I got into our pyjamas, then got into bed together.

"Goodnight," I said and kissed him.

"Goodnight, I love you."

"I love you too." I closed my eyes and snuggled into Tony.

The next morning Tony and I went down to get breakfast and the smell of eggs, sausages and potato bread filled my nostrils. We were getting a proper Irish breakfast, this was great.

"That smells so good." Tony smiled.

"I know."

I dipped my head into the kitchen and saw my parents making breakfast; hopefully it would be ready soon. The tiles were an orangey, red colour, with white cabinets and counters and there was a black cooker straight ahead.

"Is this for us?" I asked.

Mum turned round and smiled, "Of course it is."

"Thank you, I really appreciate it."

"We'll bring it in to the dining room for you both," Dad said.

"Thanks."

I walked into the dining room and sat at the light brown, wooden table with Tony.

"This is a really nice house, I like all the decorations and the colours."

"Oh, thanks." I smiled.

"So, what's the plan for today?"

"I'm hoping Conor will take us to the farm he's working at. Then later we can go out to a pub and hopefully my friends will be available."

"It sounds like a fun day, I'm looking forward to meeting your friends," Tony replied with a smile.

"Yeah, it'll be good." I nodded.

The door opened and my parents brought in breakfast. I had sausages, potato bread, beans, toast and a fried egg. It would be difficult to eat it all, but I'd eat as much as I could.

"What's this?" Tony asked and he held up the potato bread.

"It's potato bread, it's really good."

"Alright, I'll try it." He chuckled.

"Oh, it's great, don't you worry," Dad said and sat at the table and mum sat beside him.

I watched as Tony took a bite, then he nodded. "It is really good."

"Yeah, I miss this kind of food."

It was difficult to get some Irish foods in America, so I'd be savouring all the food while I was here.

"I can understand why," Tony replied with a nod.

I ate bits and pieces of my breakfast, wanting to eat a bit of everything, before I got full.

"Where are you going today?" Mum asked.

"I'm hoping we'll get to go to Conor's farm, then out to the pub with friends. I'll have to call them to make sure they're free."

"That sounds delightful, I'm sure your friends will be excited when they find out you're home."

"Yeah, probably. It'll be good to see them again."

Maybe I could even set some of them up with my friends in America, like Emilio, or Travis. Ashley would certainly be interested in dating one of my rich friends.

I finished most of my breakfast and felt quite full. The food had been delicious, probably even better than usual since I hadn't had it in ages.

"I'm going to go and get dressed, then we'll get Conor to bring us to the farm."

"I need to change too." Tony got up.

I stood and went upstairs to my room with Tony. I changed into blue Jean's and a purple top, with long sleeves, then put on a black bomber jacket. It wasn't too warm today, so I needed to layer up. Tony got into cream trousers, a light blue button-up shirt and put on a long, dark blue coat.

"It's just as well you brought warm clothes, Ireland is usually pretty cold."

"Yeah, I'm glad that plane was delayed, it gave me time to go back and pack."

"That was lucky." I nodded. "Anyway, let's get going."

We went back downstairs and Conor was in the living room, watching TV.

"Can you take us to the farm you're working at?"

"Oh, sure," Conor replied and got up from the sofa.

"Oh wait, I need to call my friends and ask if they can go to the pub later," I said and walked over to the small, brown table beside the green sofa. I lifted the phone, calling my friends one by one; Ashley, Erin, Niamh and Liam were all able to come. This was great, I'd get to see all of my friends.

I left the house with Tony and Conor and got into the back of the car with Tony.

"I must say, I'm excited to see the place you work at." I smiled.

"I think you'll be happy, it's a good farm and there are loads of animals. You can pet them too and get into the pens."

"Oh that's great."

"It certainly sounds it," Tony replied.

It was nice to see fields all around us and some had cows, or sheep in them. This was one of the things I'd missed most about home. All the greenery was a fresh change from the bustling streets of New York. The quiet of the countryside was perfect as well.

"This country is beautiful." Tony smiled.

"I know and you haven't even seen all the great places. Unfortunately, there are too many to magnificent places, so we won't get to see them all during this trip." I sighed.

"We can always come back again and see the other places."

"That's a good idea."

I'd take Tony to Skellig Michael, which was an island off of Kerry, then we'd go to the Giant's Causeway. It would be a long journey, because it was in Northern Ireland and would take at least a day to get there.

It would be an exciting trip with Tony, but there was going to be a lot of travelling to do.

Conor parked the car and we got out and walked up the wet, grey, cement path. There were a few buildings around and I couldn't wait to see and pet the cute animals.

"I actually love farm animals, they're all so cute," I said and smiled.

"They are pretty cute," Tony replied with a nod.

"Yes, but cleaning their shit is disgusting."

"Well, yeah, that would be," I replied.

We went to the ticket booth and paid to get in. Even though Conor worked here and we could've got in free, it was better to pay; we certainly had enough money for it.

"So, which bit are we going to first?" I asked.

"Well there's a big barn with most of the animals, then a building with the dogs and one for the chicks and ducklings."

"Aww, they're all going to be so cute!" I exclaimed and grinned.

"I'm happy to go wherever." Tony shrugged.

"We'll see the dogs first then," I said.

We followed Conor into a smaller grey building and there were three puppies in a pen. They were Springer Spaniels and they were really cute; I couldn't wait to pet one of them.

"Can you lift one up for us?"

"Sure," Conor replied and walked closer to the pen. He leaned down and picked up the smallest pup, who had floppy reddish, brown ears. "This is Tallulah, she's the runt of the litter."

"She's so cute, yes you are," I said in a baby voice and petted her. If I was staying in Ireland, I would've been tempted to adopt her and take her home. Maybe I'd get a dog when I went back to America.

Tony petted Tallulah as well. We stayed for a while, then moved on to the building with the chicks and ducklings. Some were sitting and others were waddling around, in the square, glass container, that was under a heat lamp.

"I've never seen ducklings so close before." I shook my head.

"Yeah, I haven't either," Tony replied.

"You can pet them if you want."

"Oh my God, yes!" I exclaimed and quickly walked over to the ducklings. They were brown, with small yellow parts on them - the cutest wee things!

I reached my hand down and some waddled away, but I managed to pet one of the ducklings and it was so soft. I petted as many as possible and it was great fun.

Tony petted some of them. "They're very cute, I didn't realise how soft they'd be either."

"I'm used to it now," Conor said and shrugged.

"You're so lucky getting to see all these cute animals. And you get paid for it."

"I mean, I guess. But it's not always fun, it can be hard work."

"I know."

We stayed with the ducklings and chicks for a few more minutes, then went to the big barn. There were loads of different animals in here, from pigs to rabbits. We'd probably be in here for quite a while, seeing and petting all the different animals.

"You can actually go into the pens in here," Conor said.

"Oh, that's great," I replied.

I went to see the goats first and they immediately came up to the gate - they were clearly friendly and craving attention. I petted the black one, which was quite small and had horns. Tony petted one beside me, which was bigger and brown, with a few white patches. It was amazing that all the goats had come over to us. I petted a few others, because I didn't want them getting left out.

We went round the different pens petting all the animals. They were all so cute and some were really soft; my favourite were the ducklings though.

I went round the different buildings a few times, I had to make the most out of the day and loved being around so many animals. I hadn't been to a farm in years either.

We stayed for most of the day, then went back to the house.

"I say we have a wee rest before we go out to the pub," I said.

"I'd like that." Tony nodded.

I walked into the living room and flopped onto the green sofa. I lifted the remote from the table and put on the TV, then found something to watch.

When it got late, Tony and I left the house and went to the pub nearby. There was familiar, Irish music playing and quite a few people at tables and standing at the bar. I looked around for my friends, then saw them sitting at one of the tables near the back.

"There they are!' I exclaimed and waved at them.

They waved back and I walked over and got a seat in the booth. It was comfy and nice and soft for my bum.

"We're going to have some great craic tonight!" I exclaimed and grinned.

"What the fuck? I'm not doing that shit!" Tony shook his head.

"What?" Liam frowned, confused by the whole thing. He was white and his dark brown hair was spiked up tonight. Liam was pretty thin as well and had a large, sticky out nose.

"I'm not doing drugs, that shit's addictive."

I laughed and hit the table; this was hilarious. Tony thought we were going to do drugs. "No, no. Craic is like having fun, you know, a good time. Not the drug." I giggled.

"Oh, you had me worried there." He sighed. "I found it very strange that you would do drugs, you really don't seem like the type."

"Don't worry, I'm not. The only drugs I do are alcohol, or medicines when I need them," I replied and patted Tony's arm. "Anywho, this is my fiance Tony and these are my friends, Liam, Niamh, Ashley and Erin," I said and pointed at them.

Ashley, Liam and I were the tall ones in the friend group and Niamh and Erin were pretty short.

"It's good to meet you all."

"Oh, yeah, you too," Ashley replied with a nod. She tucked her shiny blonde hair behind her ears. Ashley was beautiful, with fine features, delicate, white skin and she was slender.

"So, when's the wedding?" Niamh asked. She had a great tanned skin colour and long brown hair. She had beautiful curves as well.

Niamh was also the youngest of the group at eighteen, whereas the rest of us were twenty, or twenty-one. Liam was the oldest at twenty-three.

"I'm not sure, maybe in a few months." I shrugged. "I definitely want a summer wedding."

"I like the sound of that." Tony nodded.

"Oh, Tony and I need drinks," I said and got up.

"I'll come with you and carry the drinks," Tony said.

"Thanks, that would be great."

We went up to the bar and Mary was there, with her husband Cian; they'd owned the bar since I was a kid. Mary was quite short and a bit overweight, with long, straight black hair. Cian was a bit shorter than me and had blonde hair and a beard, which were turning grey.

"Roisin, we haven't seen you in years!" Mary exclaimed.

"Oh, I know. I haven't been home in a while."

"How was it over in America?"

"Great, I met this great man." I looked up at Tony. "We're getting married soon."

"Hi, I'm Tony. It's nice to meet you."

"Wow, that's amazing! Congratulations! Cian, do you hear that? Our wee Roisin is getting married," Mary said with a bright smile on her face.

"Awk congrats, that's great news," Cian replied. "You can have the first round on the house."

"Oh, thank you. I'll have a Bulmers cider please," I replied.

"Can you reccomend me a good Irish drink?"

"Well, what I'm drinking is good Baileys is good as well. There are a lot of Irish drinks."

"I'll have a Baileys then. I'd like to try yours as well if that's alright."

"Of course."

"Great, a Bulmers and Baileys coming up," Mary replied and started getting the drinks ready.

"That's funny, we're getting two drinks beginning with the letter B." I giggled.

"That is a bit strange," Tony replied with a nod.

Mary got the drinks for us and Tony lifted them, then we went back to our booth.

"So, how did you and Tony meet?" Ashley asked, with her hands clasped together and a cheeky smile.

"Well, he's Matteo's boss. I think we met at some family do."

"Yeah, we did. But we didn't properly get to know each other until the wedding last year. I'd say that was the start of it all."

"Yeah."

"What happened with Matteo?" Niamh asked and frowned.

"He was an asshole, I broke up with him." He'd been the worst boyfriend ever; thank God Tony was nothing like him.

"Well then you're better off without him," Liam said.

"Definitely." I nodded.

"Any rich men for me?" Ashley asked.

"Yeah, there's a few. There's Leo, but he's too young cause he's only sixteen, there's Emilio and my friend Travis is single. I don't know if he's rich though." I shrugged.

"Emilio isn't rich, I don't pay him much cause of the kidnapping."

"I don't want someone who isn't rich. You'll have to find someone else for me." Ashley folded her arms.

I didn't know many young guys in the Mafia, most were old men who were married, like Pauli. The only young ones I knew were Tony, Leo, Matteo and Emilio; out of them, the only available one was Emilio. Tony did have his younger brother, Sonny, but he was in jail and I'd never met him.

"I'm sorry, what?" Erin asked with wide eyes.

"Uh, I got kidnapped when I was on holiday in Italy. Emilio was involved with it... but he was quite nice and I didn't want Tony killing him. Tony thought he needed some sort of punishment, so Emilio is my servant... I mean, I don't get him to do much and he's my friend now."

They all stared at me like I had two heads.

"What the actual fuck? What shite are you involved with?" Liam asked.

"Tony is in the Mafia." I leaned across the table and whispered. "You can't tell anyone, especially not my family."

"Wow, that is crazy." Niamh shook her head.

"It really is. That's like some movie shit," Liam replied.

"I know." I giggled.

"That's way too scary. And the whole kidnapping. Nope, nope, nope!" Erin exclaimed.

She was scared of most things and could be quite shy at times. It didn't surprise me that she found it scary.

"Roisin is safe, the person who organised the kidnapping has been dealt with," Tony said.

He'd killed Flavio soon after the kidnapping, which was quite a relief. I'd even heard other awful things about Flavio, so the world was better without him.

I drank some of my drink and it tasted good. I'd missed the homely Irish alcohol, that couldn't be found in America.

"So, you're safe now?" Erin asked and twirled her hair round her finger. That was something she did when she was nervous, or uneasy.

"I'd say so."

"You are, we're on good terms with all the families. The Barones are much better now that Flavio is dead. The new guy stopped that human trafficking and kidnapping shit," Tony said.

"Oh, that's great," I said with a smile.

Hopefully there wouldn't be any more disagreements with that family; they were pretty scary and crazy. Maybe that was just Flavio though.

"Okay, you like really have to set me up with one of the rich men."

"I'll try, I'm sure Tony knows more of them than I do."

"I'm sure we could get a few dates set up. My brother is actually getting out of jail in a few weeks, so there's a potential man for you." Tony smiled.

"It'll be really fun to do a blind date thing. But it'll have to wait until after the wedding and honeymoon."

"Oh sure," Ashley replied with a nod.

"Well, I'll tell you right now. I don't want you setting me up on blind dates. I want nothing to do with the Mafia," Erin said and shook her head.

"Understable," Liam replied.

"Don't worry, you don't have to go on dates with anyone," I said. "What about you Niamh, interested?"

"I don't know." She shrugged. "I'm not actively seeking a relationship. If it happens it happens, you know?"

"Yeah, just wait and see if you gel with someone," I replied.

I stayed out until the bar was closed; it was great catching up with my friends and seeing Tony get along with them.

I walked home with Tony and we went straight to bed.

"So, what are we doing tomorrow?" Tony asked.

"Well, we didn't drink too much, so I'm thinking we could go to Kerry. If the weather's good, we can go to Skellig Michael."

"Uh, what's that?"

"Oh, it's a wee island off of Kerry. Make sure you wear proper shoes, cause it's kinda bumpy and stony... by proper shoes I mean trainers, not fancy shoes."

"What are trainers?"

How did he not know what they were? Was he some kind of weird person, who'd never worn them before?

"They're comfy shoes, which either have straps or laces and they have quite a thick sole," I replied.

"Oh, you mean sneakers."

"Sure, but that's not what they're called. They're trainers. I'm not going to Americanise my language."

"Alright, whatever you say." He chuckled.

"Anyway goodnight. I love you."

"Goodnight, I love you too."

I closed my eyes, looking forward to our adventure tomorrow.
