The Tesseract

The flight took just over 4 hour's to get us to our destination. The night sky was dark as we landed on the helicopter pad at the Joint Dark Energy Division building of Shield, in the state of Nevada.

People were scattering all around and appeared to be panicking. A loud alarm system going off all around the building and campus. When we climbed out I noticed the ground would shake every now and again, which would certainly explain some of the panic.

"Hey, Amara. Take this and go put it on. You're going to be put to work." Dad smiled and handed me a black spandex outfit.

I grabbed it from him gently and unfolded it. As I looked down, I saw it was a real Shield uniform. A giant smile swept across my face. I hugged my Father and ran to the bathroom to change.

I checked over myself in the mirror and I couldn't of been happier. The outfit was perfect. A black spandex suit that fit perfectly. I walked back outside and found my Dad talking to some of the other agent's, barking orders for an emergency evacuation. He turned around and saw me walking toward him. A proud look sprawled across his face, and I chuckled.

"Wow. This site could just make me cry. My daughter all grown up." He said as he pretended to wipe away a tear.

"Oh, don't go getting all soft on me now... Oh, wait. You did that earlier during the movie." I chuckled and pointed out. He looked at me quickly like he was going to try and rebuttal my remark. "Eh, eh. I saw those little tear's you tried to hide, Dad. It's okay. I won't tell any of your work friends." I patted him on the shoulder and laughed.

"Okay, okay. Come on. We have to go back to the Helicopter pad. The Director's on his way." Dad put on his sunglasses and so did I.

I followed behind him and we waited and watched as another Helicopter came into view and down to the landing pad. A tall woman, and a man with an eye patch climbed out of the chopper.

"How bad is it?" The man yelled over the loud sound of the helicopter wing's. He looked over and noticed me.

"That's the problem, sir. We don't know." Dad yelled back.

"I see you've brought a new recruit with you, Agent Coulson." The man with the eye patch looked back at me once again.

"I'd like to introduce you to Mini Agent, Amara Coulson, sir." Dad smiled at him.

"Hello, Director Fury. It's great to see you again." I smirked at him.

"Is that anyway to greet your favorite Uncle?" He rose his eyebrow.

"Of course not." I chuckled. "Hi, Uncle Nick. I missed you!" I gave him a big hug and he hugged me back.

"I missed you too. Let's get inside!" He said.

We all knew it was best to continue our conversation off the helicopter pad as the ground shook once more. Quickly the four of us walked into the building and climbed into the elevator, having it take us deep down underground.

"Happy Birthday Amara, welcome to the team." Fury clapped me on my shoulder.

"Yes, Happy Birthday Amara. I can't believe how much you've grown. You've certainly turned into a beautiful young woman. We will certainly make a great agent out of you yet." Agent Maria Hill, said to me.

"Thank you both so much. I'm so excited to be here. I've always wanted to do this." I explained clearly unable to contain my excitement.

"So. What's the status?" Maria asked.

"Well, Dr. Selvig first read an energy surge from the tesseract about 4 hours ago." Dad explained. I always loved how quickly he'd get back into work mode.

"NASA didn't authorize Selvig to go to test phase." Fury said as he showed a look of concern.

"He wasn't testing it. He wasn't even in the room. Spontaneous event." Dad explained.

"It just turned itself on?" Maria asked and Dad nodded.

"Where are the energy level's now?" Fury asked.

"Climbing. When Selvig couldn't shut it down, we ordered evac."

"How long to get everyone out?" Fury said quickly as we exited the elevator.

"Campus should be clear in the next half  hour." Dad replied.

"Do better." Fury said and nodded at my Father. Dad pulled me aside quickly.

"I have to get this done. You'll probably be bored if you come with me. Why don't you test your skill's and go with Director Fury and Maria." He smiled at me.

"Really? Thank you! Thank you!" I hugged him tightly.

"Be safe okay, stay close to Fury. I love you."

"I will. I love you too. You better stay safe also." I stated while I gave him a serious expression.

He let out a chuckle and nodded before walking away, off to go help with the evacuation. I walked close behind Director Fury and Maria as we walked down the halls. He whispered something to her that I didn't quite hear and as quick as he did she left going the opposite direction of us.

"Come with me." Fury spoke to me.

I quickly stayed right behind him as we entered a large laboratory room. The moment I stepped inside, you could feel the thick air, and the power radiating off whatever was inside the room. We both quickly walked up to a older looking man as he was inspecting the blue cube in the center of the room.

"Director." The man called out as he noticed us walking towards him.

"Amara. This is Doctor Eric Selvig." The tired looking doctor let out a small smile and shook my hand.

"Nice to meet you." I nodded in return.

"Talk to me doctor. Is there anything we know for certain?" Fury asked seriously.

"The tesseract is misbehaving." He stated simply.

He gestured to a large machine and encased in the middle was a blue looking cube, shimmering and crackling with scientists all around it. Poking and prodding, trying to figure out what was going on.

"Is that supposed to be funny?" Fury asked.

"No. It's not funny at all. The tesseract is not only active... she's behaving."

"I assume you tried to pull the plug?" Fury asked.

"What exactly is the tesseract?" I questioned.

My eyes locked onto it, enchanted by the strange cube. It's power was like a pull inside the room, making the air feel heavy the closer we got.

"Yes and she's an energy source. We turn off the power, she turns it back on... If she reaches peak level..." Selvig explained with a worried tone.

"We prepared for this, Doctor." Fury stated rather unimpressed.

"My calculations are far from complete and she's throwing off interference, radiation. Nothing harmful, just low levels of gamma radiation." Selvig explained as though it wasn't a big deal.

"That can be harmful." Fury looked at him with great concern. "Where's Agent Barton?"

"The Hawk? Up in his nest as usual." Selvig gestured his head backward's.

I followed his directional gaze and looked up to see a very serious looking man, looking down on us from the rafters. He quickly jumped down a rope as you'd see a firefighter do and walked over to us.

"Agent Barton, this is Mini Agent Coulson. Amara Coulson. This is Clint Barton." Fury introduced the two of us.

"First, I'm 18. I'm not a Mini Agent. Second, It's nice to meet you Agent Barton." I put out my hand.

"Pleasure to met you. But please call me, Clint." He said with a small smile and reached out for my hand and shook it.

"So, I gave you this detail so you could keep a close eye on things." Fury raised one of his eyebrows.

"Well, I see better from a distance." Clint explained.

"So have you seen anything that might set this thing off?" Fury looked at Clint curiously.

"Doctor, it's spiking again." One of the scientists warned.

We climbed up onto the platform it was on and we inspected the cube.

"No one has come or gone. Dr. Selvig is clean. No contacts or IM's. If there's been any tampering, sir, it wasn't from this end." Clint explained and Fury looked really surprised at his response.

"What do you mean this end?" I asked curiously.

"Well, yeah. The cube is a doorway to the other end of space, right?." Clint looked at us unsure, but since neither of us spoke he continued to explain further. "Door's open from both sides."

As Clint finished speaking the Tesseract started crackling and rumbling again only much bigger this time. It could have been because we were standing right next to it, but it certainly didn't feel as it did earlier. It energy was changing. The three of us backed up slightly and the ground shook harder this time as it surged. Blue spark's started to fly from the cube over and over, until a large cast of blue light shone forward.

A massive hole opened in the center of the room at the end of the platform and a large burst of energy casted outward's. When the energy cleared and we all stood up straight from our crouched poses. We noticed a figure stood up in the middle of the room where the large hole once was.

He had shoulder length black, greasy looking hair, his face was thin and he honestly looked beaten. His eyes sunken into his head. He was wearing strange green and black clothing and holding a spear like device in his hand. It was quite frightening.

But something about him seemed strangely familiar. We all stood in silence for a few moment's. A few men moved in with guns raised. The rest of us just watching each other, waiting to see who would move first. The tall man's eye's met mine and his head cocked towards the side.

"Sir, please put down the spear." Fury said to him sternly.

He looked down at the spear shaped item in his hand and before we could react, a smile crept upon his skinny face. He shot a bolt of some type of power from the spear, straight at us. It was emitting a strange energy just like the cube, that gave me tingly sensation's through my skin. Fury went one way, as Clint knocked me the other, out of the way. We fell onto the floor as the gunfire started raining above our head's toward's the strange intruder who jumped forward and attacked the men.

"Kid, you need to get out of here." Clint scrambled to his feet and tried to pull me out of the building while covering me.

"No. I'm not leaving and I'm certainly not leaving without my Uncle Nick." I stated firmly. Clint raised a brow at me. Clearly thinking he was better off with his first judgment call, but let me stay anyway.

The man started throwing knives at the Shield agents and more blast's from his spear. He looked at me again curiously. Quickly shooting another shot at Clint who was standing next to me. We both rolled out of the way of the blast.

He had taken down almost every Agent in the room. The strange man stood for a moment watching his surrounding's like he was calculating what he was going to do next. Clint and I stood to our feet a few feet away from each other when the man ran at Clint. The two fought for a minute. Clint had tried to fend him off, but was unsuccessful.

"You have heart." He grinned a sly grin and tapped Clint's chest with the Spear. His eyes glazed over with a blue glow and he stopped struggling.

"Clint, no!" I yelled, before covering my mouth with both my hand's in horror.

"Ah, yes. Smaller child. You seem oddly familiar. Have we met?" He turned and grinned at me as he spoke.

"I think if we had, i'd likely remember a grimy man like yourself. Unfortunately for you. I'm afraid not." I grinned back at him.

I stood in a pose ready to fight if need be, which only seemed to amuse him more. I twitched my eyes looking over and seeing Fury grabbing the tesseract quietly and placing it into a suitcase. He was about to get up and leave with it. The man saw my eye movement he turned towards him.

"Please don't. I still need that." He spoke to him.

"This doesn't have to get any messier." Fury spoke calmly.

"Of course it does. I've come to far for anything else." He paused for a moment and then spoke again. "I am Loki, of Asgard, and I am burdened with glorious purpose."

"Loki, brother of Thor?" Dr. Eric Selvig asked as he stood up from the floor. Loki looked at him, almost unamused at being called Thor's brother.

I looked over toward's the doctor and in my eye sight was a dead agent on the ground. They were close enough I could easily get to him and get his ear piece to try and reach my Dad to warn him.

"We have no quarrel with your people." Fury continued to speak to Loki, keeping his attention off from me. I slowly walked towards the agent's body.

"An Ant has no quarrel with a boot." Loki stated simply.

"Are you planning to step on us?" Fury furrowed his brows at him.

"I come with glad tidings of a world made free."

"Free from what?"

As Fury and Loki talked I grabbed the ear piece and put it on. I noticed his holster and carefully took it off from him and placed it around my waist. I pulled out the gun and held it in my hand's. Catching only the last part of the conversation. The ceiling above us was glowing a brighter blue and the portal was collapsing in on itself.

"Sir, Director Fury is stalling. This place is about to blow and drop a hundred feet of rock on us. He mean's to bury us." Clint spoke to Loki. He was definitely under some kind of mind control.

"Like the Pharaohs of old." Fury growled.

"He's right, the portal is collapsing in on itself. We have maybe two minutes before this goes critical." Dr. Selvig pointed out on the monitor, also turned into a mind controlled zombie.

"Well, then." Loki stated. He turned and looked at Clint.

Clint aimed his gun at Fury. As the shot fired from the barrel. I put my hand out instinctively and covered my Uncle with a small violet colored force field to protect him from being shot. It accidentally was put to close to him, that I accidentally knocked him over, but at least he was safe.

"Whoa." I said out loud.

Every pair of eyes left in the room turned to stare at me, bewildered. Loki, however cocked his head to the side once again with a mischievous grin.

"Interesting." He said as he looked at me.

The others in the room ran towards the exit door, Clint grabbing the case with the tesseract inside. Loki followed behind Clint and I tried shooting at them, but they were quickly out of site. I ran across the room, over to Director Fury.

"Sorry, Uncle Nick. Are you all right?" I asked. I grabbed his arm and helped him to his feet.

"Thanks to you, kiddo." He looked up at the ceiling as it started to crack. "We've got to get out of here, pronto." I nodded at him and we ran for the exit.

"Dad, Clint Barton has been compromised. A man named Loki appeared out of some sort of portal and they took off with the tesseract." I spoke through the ear piece as we were running.

"We've got eyes on them. Are you and Director Fury, okay?" Dad asked back. The ground shook again and I could hear him shouting to just leave it and go.

"Yep, we are good and on it."

We made it to the staircase that led us outside to the chopper. We both quickly jumped in and started to take off. I looked around the ground's and worried for my Dad.

"Dad, are you out?"

"Yes, floor's are all cleared. Are you?" I could hear the worry in his voice.

"Fine, in the helicopter with Uncle Nick." Another large shake occurred as we watched the building below us collapse in on itself.

"Amara this is about to get very dangerous. Hang on." Fury said quickly.

I looked out the window to see us flying alongside the car that Clint, Loki and Doctor Selvig were in. Fury opened the door to the helicopter and we both started shooting our pistols at the vehicle. Loki stood up in the back and sent a shot at us from his scepter. The blast hit the tail end of the helicopter causing it to lose control.

"Jump!" He shouted.

Fury and I bailed out of the Helicopter just in time. I watched as the chopper exploded not to far from where we were on the ground.

"Amara. Amara. Do you copy? Director Fury, I repeat do you copy?" I heard my dad's voice over the ear piece.

"The tesseract is with the hostile force. Amara and I are fine. She saved me today, Coulson. You should be proud."

"I am, sir. Alway's." He replied and I smiled at my Dad's response.

"I want every soul not working rescue looking for that briefcase." Director Fury ordered.

"You've got it, sir." Maria said.

"We have to get back to base. This is now a level 7. As of right now we are at war." Fury stated and looked over at me.

"What do we do?" Dad asked through the com.

"We are going to have to call upon a team. It's time for The Avengers initiative." Fury said still looking at me.

"What exactly is the Avengers initiative? And why do you keep looking at me." I asked him curiously.

"Because, Amara. Welcome to the team."
