The Battle of New York
Steve, Natasha, Clint and I climbed into the jet and headed off to the city. We arrived on the ground as the blue portal opened in the sky. There was large sleigh looking thing's that flew through the air. Alien's called Chitauri, that Thor warned us about, were controlling them. Tony in his Iron-Man suit was flying up towards the air blasting the aliens. But, then there was suddenly a large worm/whale creatures that floated down through the air called Leviathans.
"Uh, are you guys seeing these things?" I stepped from the jet and watched as they all started attacking the city.
"Seeing. Still working on believing." Tony said through his com.
"Well, he wasn't kidding when he said it was an army from outer space." Nat said.
"Where's Banner? Has he shown up yet?" Tony asked.
"Banner?" Steve asked curiously.
"Just keep me posted." Tony ordered.
"Okay, we need to get as many civilians to safety as possible. Start clearing the street's and take out the aliens. Amara, I need you to get back to the tower and see what you can do to shut down the portal." Steve ordered each one of us and without hesitation we complied. As every one separated Steve grabbed my arm. "Stay safe, Amara." He smiled at me and we stared at each other for a moment.
"Uh, Steve, you kinda have to let go of my arm. We have a city to save." I smiled at him and blushed.
"Right, uh-hem." He cleared his throat and smiled. "Good luck." His cheek's turning a light pink too.
I ran toward's Stark Tower. A Chitauri jumped down and stood in front of me, shooting it's large weapon at me. I jumped out of the way and landed safely. Quickly, I put my hand up and a sent a shield toward's the alien, knocking it out of my path. A group of the alien's ran towards me. I stood still and remembered my weapon, unsheathing my sword. They got close enough and I started fighting them off. The angrier I got the more powerful I felt. A surge of power filled me and I raised my hand's, punching my fist into the ground letting out a violet colored blast, tearing the ones around me to ash. I made my way finally to the edge of the street. The tower was right in front of me. I ran towards the door and Thor landed in front of me.
"Lady Amara. I'm so glad you're all right." Thor engulfed me in a large hug, squeezing tightly. "I feared Loki may have killed you." Thor looked down at my face and I pulled away after a moment.
"I'm all right, Thor. The stab wound healed rather quickly. But we need to stop Loki, the Tesseract is up at the top of the tower."
"Would you like a lift?" Thor smiled at me holding out his arm. I looked at him curiously and took his arm again. He pulled me into his chest, holding me around my waist tightly. "Hang on." He smirked.
Thor twirled his hammer faster and faster until our feet were lifted off the ground. I wrapped my arms tightly around his neck and shut my eye's. I heard him let out a small chuckle. Our feet quickly touched the ground once again. I opened my eyes and tried to let go, but Thor held on tightly. I saw the expression on his face become angry and I turned to see what he was looking at. Loki was standing there in his green asgardian robes, with a large golden helmet with horns.
"Loki, turn off the Tesseract or I'll destroy it." Thor threatened.
"You can't. There is no stopping it. There is only the war." Loki growled.
"So be it." Thor returned the growl.
Loki jumped from the platform he was on at us, giving out a war like cry. Thor quickly pushed me out of the way, behind him. As the two began to fight I ran into the tower. And made my way up to the top of the roof. I assessed the situation and there was no way to penetrate it. No control's that were able to turn it off. It was completely self sustaining now, keeping the portal wide open. After a few minute's Thor joined me at the top.
"Loki's gotten away." Thor stated.
"Well, there's no way to penetrate the power surrounding the cube. Not by us anyway. We need to find something with equal power to shut it down." I explained looking up at him.
"Until then we shall go find the others. Figure out a plan." Thor said.
"Okay, willing to give me another lift?" I smirked at him.
"Always." He smiled and pulled me close and tight to him.
Thor swung his hammer again and we flew off toward's the other's. As we neared them, they were becoming quickly surrounded and overwhelmed by Chitauri creature's. Thor summoned a large bolt of lightening and sent it hurting down, wiping the Chitauri out around them. We hit the ground and Thor wavered for a moment. He was hurt on his side. I removed my hand and noticed the blood. He only gave me a pleading look and I decided not to push the matter.
"What the situation upstairs?" Steve asked as he looked between Thor and I. Thor didn't let go of my waist as we touched the ground. It had felt so natural I didn't even notice.
"The cube's impenetrable without something to match its power." I explained to them.
"Amara's right. For now we need to focus on and deal with these guy's." Tony said into our com's as he flew over our heads.
"So, how do we do this?" Nat asked.
"As a team." Steve stated and looked at me questionably. I realized finally I was still holding onto Thor. I let go and he did too.
"I have unfinished business with Loki." Thor stated.
"Yeah? Get in line." Clint said.
"Save it. Loki is going to keep the fight on us and that's what we need. Without him, these things could run wild. We've got Stark up top he's going to need us too..."
"Uh, guy's." I interrupted Steve and nodded to the direction behind them. Everyone turned and looked to see Banner riding up on a beaten down motorcycle.
"Soooo, this all seems horrible." Banner said seriously.
"I've seen worse." Nat looked at him. He looked back at her and apologized. "No, I think we could use a little worse." She smiled at him.
"Tony, we've got him." I said.
"Banner?"
"Just like you said."
"Well, then tell him to suit up. I'm bringing the party to you." Tony appeared in the sky with a Leviathan right on his tail.
"I-I don't see how that's a party." Nat said shaking her head.
Tony came flying in our direction, getting closer with the Leviathan. Bruce turned and walked in their direction, still not as his green rage monster.
"Dr. Banner. Now might be a really good time for you to get angry." Steve said. He took a few step's towards Banner as he walked closer to the incoming threat. The rest of us took a fighting stance ready to attack.
"That's my secret, Captain." Banner smirked slightly. "I'm always angry."
Banner walked forward, and turned into the hulk before our very eyes. It was quite the site to see. His clothing ripped, only leaving his shorts, his skin turned green and he growled. Hulk punched the giant monster with his fist. His large muscular feet dug into the ground as they only moved slightly backwards towards us. The Leviathan hit by Hulk was forced upwards and began flipping over.
It's metal armor shattered and went flying everywhere and more Chitauri creature's jumped off from it as Tony shot a rocket in it's soft spot. It exploded and I created a small shield around myself and Thor, while Steve covered Nat with his shield. Clint ducked behind a car safely. I removed my shield as the metal stopped flying at our head's.
We listened as the Chitauri screamed from their spot's on the ground or the building's that they clung to. We all stood together in a circle watching around us. I felt the tingling sensation in my hand's and let it out. A violet blaze danced along my fingers like little wisps of fire between Clint and Thor. Hulk let out a massive roar. We stood together ready to fight and we were quite the extraordinary team. My Dad would have been really proud.
"Guys." Nat said and we all looked upward seeing the new leviathans and creatures coming out from the portal.
"Call it, Cap." Tony said.
"Until we can close that portal, our priority is containment. Barton, I want you on that roof. Eyes on everything. Call out patterns and strays. Stark, you got the perimeter. Anything get's more than three blocks out, you turn it back or you turn it to ash." Steve ordered.
"Can you give me a lift?" Clint asked looking at Tony.
"Right. Better clench up, Legolas."
Tony walked over and grabbed ahold of Clint, carrying him off into the sky to the building that Steve had pointed too.
"Thor, you've got to try and bottleneck that portal. Slow them down. You've got the lightening. Light the bastards up. Amara, keep trying to figure out how to get that portal closed, you find anything let us know. Strike down as many of these things as you can along the way." Steve nodded at us.
Without even asking this time they watched as Thor grabbed me once again by my waist. Swinging his hammer and flew us back towards the tower. He set me down and flew off again. I noticed someone on the ground. I walked over to them and it was Dr. Selvig. Thor stood on a near by building and the sky's got dark as he conjured up his lighting. He aimed his hammer and blasted it at the top of the portal. A leviathan was coming through, but cried out as the lightening strike started burning it up.
"Amara, I'm on my way to you." Nat spoke to me through the com's.
"Dr. Selvig is up here, he's got a pretty bad head injury. I'm going to see what I can do to get him up and awake. Maybe he'll know how to close it."
"Got it." Steve called back.
"Dr. Selvig. Its me, Amara. Are you alright?" I said softly and he slowly came too. "Is there anyway to close down the portal?"
"The scepter. Loki's scepter. The energy. The tesseract can't fight, but you can't protect against yourself."
"It's not your fault. You didn't know what you were doing." I said softly.
"Actually, I think I did. I built in a safety to cut the power source. The scepter. It may be able to close the portal. And I'm looking right at it." He looked down and I looked too. It was just laying on the ground. Just below us.
"Well, this is probably stupid. But it's the fastest way down." I jumped off the side of the building towards the balcony below. I managed to catch my fall hovering slightly using my powers until I lost it. I managed to create a few shield's, almost like creating step's. But more like bouncing into them with my body. Until I finally managed to roll onto the ground. "Not bad." I groaned a bit and stood up.
I grabbed the scepter from the balcony. Nat landed on the roof above me and looked down at me. Loki crash landed after her onto the balcony with me. We stared at each other for a moment. We both glanced at the scepter and made a run at it. Quickly, I ducked and rolled at the loud roar of the Hulk. He grabbed Loki and tossed him inside. I laid on the ground and watched.
"Enough!" Loki yelled. The Hulk stopped walking towards him. "You are, all of you, beneath me! I am a God, you dull creature. And I will not be bullied by..." Loki growled, until the Hulk had enough of his little speech.
He grabbed Loki's leg and began smashing him back and forth on the ground like a rag doll. He smashed him up good until he groaned on the floor and the Hulk started to walk away.
"Puny God." Hulk scoffed.
"Ooo." I cringed slightly. I crawled up to the scepter and grabbed it. It was a strange sensation in my hands. Almost like the glowing part was calling out to me. I fought the urge and looked up at Natasha who was looking down at me still. "The scepter is the key to closing the portal." I told her through the com's.
"Send it up." She called out.
I threw it up to her as hard as I could. Maybe a little to hard, but she managed to catch it. I started to walk back to the top of the tower when my phone started to ring in my pocket. I reluctantly picked it up after I saw the name.
"Fury." I stated unenthused.
"Amara, there's a incoming nuclear missile headed right for the city."
"How long?"
"Three minutes, max."
"I'll let them team know." I hung up the phone. "Guy's we have a problem. There's an incoming nuke and it's headed straight towards the city. We've got three minutes before it blows up midtown."
"On it." Tony said.
I ran back up to the top of the tower. I stood near Nat as she readied the portal to close. I protected her and the Tesseract, switching between shooting down any incoming Chitauri with the new blast's from my hand's, and cutting them to bits with my sword.
"Right at the crown!" Dr. Selvig instructed.
Natasha pushed the scepter through the energy shield surrounding the cube. Almost touching it.
"I can close it. Does anybody copy? I can shut this portal down." Nat said.
"Do it!" Steve yelled.
"No, wait." Tony said.
"Stark, these thing's are still coming." Steve replied.
"The nuke. He's got the right idea, Cap. It's the perfect place to put it." I agreed.
"Stark, you know that's a one-way trip." Steve spoke softly.
I continued to fight off the Chitauri with my power's and sword, watching and waiting for Tony. He flew up the side of his tower, into the portal with the large missile in his hand's. He disappeared from sight and we waited for a few moments. Suddenly the alien's around us started dying. The portal above us, glowed a bright orange.
"Come on, Tony." I whispered, looking above my head. But, there was still no sign of him.
"Close it." Steve said softly, with regret filling his voice.
"No, just give him another minute!" I shouted as I watched and waited. "There! Now, Nat!" I pointed as Tony came falling out of the portal in the sky. Nat quickly shoved the scepter into the bottom of the machine holding the Tesseract and the portal began to close.
"He's not slowing down. Why isn't he slowing down?" I said as I started to freak out watching Tony's body just hurdle towards the ground.
"I've got this." Thor said as he landed next to me in an instant.
As he swung his hammer to fly after Tony, the Hulk jumped into the sky, grabbing him. Thor and I looked at each other. He quickly grabbed my waist and spun his hammer again. We chased after Hulk through the air. Landing on the ground beside them. I ran over to Tony's body. Kneeling on the ground next to Steve who had removed Tony's mask. I placed my hand over his face and I could feel any breathing coming from his mouth or his nose. Steve laid his head on Tony's chest and shook his head.
"He's not breathing." I said sadly.
I stood up and walked into Thor's chest. Closing my eye's, letting the tear's fall. He put his arm around me gently and held me. Hulk roared loudly, and I heard a loud gasp. I turned to see Tony's eye's wide open. I ran back over to him and hugged him carefully while he still laid on the ground.
"What the hell. What just happened?" Tony asked startled. "Please, tell me no body kissed me." He panted.
"We won, Tony." I laughed as my tear's still continued to fall. He reached up and wiped a couple away.
"All right, yay! Hurray. Good job, guys. Let's just not come in tomorrow. Let's just take a day." Thor, Steve and I laughed. "Hey have you guys ever tried shawarma? There's a shawarma joint about two blocks from here. I don't know what it is, but I want to try it."
"We're not finished yet." Thor stated and we all looked at him.
"Fine, shawarma after." He breathed and smiled.
Captain America and I helped Tony to his feet. I stood under his arm and helped him back to the Tower. We needed to finish up with Loki.
Loki woke up in the penthouse surrounded by us. The Avengers.
"If it's all the same to you. I'll have that drink now." Loki said.
He was taken into custody along with his Scepter. The world was saved, but chaos ensued. Most people didn't know how to react to the event's of New York. Some people were for the Avengers and some people weren't. But that didn't really matter much. Not to me at least. I didn't have a home to go to anymore. I sat in front of the window in the penthouse just staring out onto the city. While Shield agent's came in and did their normal thing, but I paid no mind to them.
"Lady Amara." I turned so see Thor looking at me.
"Thor, please. Just Amara." I rolled my eyes and smiled.
"Amara, then. I came to see how you were doing. I never got the chance to apologize about your Midgardian father. I did know, Agent Coulson." He said and I turned to look at him surprised.
"You did?"
"Yes, well when we came to earth last year, it was because my father had cast me out for acting reckless and foolish. He sent me here to learn my lesson. During my time here, he was the lead Shield Agent on my case. In the time I knew him, he was a very kind, forgiving man. I didn't know he had a daughter then, but I'm sure he was a very dedicated father." Thor explained softly and I appreciated his words.
"Thank you, Thor. He was. He was my very best friend. I just... can't believe he's really gone." I looked back out the window sadly. Trying to hold back my tear's. I barely had time to even process his death and now it was all hitting me.
"I came to ask you what your next plan was going to be. I must return to Asgard, to bring Loki home. He will face Asgardian justice and likely remain in prison there. I wondered... if maybe you wanted to join me. Come home, Amara. We can see my mother about getting your memories back." Thor said softly and he placed his hand on my shoulder.
"I don't know, Thor. I'm not sure I'm ready for any of that yet... But, I have no other home to go to..." I sighed and touched his hand with my own.
"Yes, you do." Tony spoke up as he walked over from behind us. "You can stay with me, kid. You'll always have a home with me, here at Stark Tower." He grinned.
"Oh, Tony." I stood up and hugged him. "Thank you."
"Hey, it's the least I can do. Plus Pepper will be excited to have you here. She would be mad if I didn't offer." He shrugged.
"Are you sure your inviting me because of Pepper? Or does the Great Tony Stark have a soft spot." I joked.
"Alright, alright. Don't get used to it." Tony smirked and headed back to deal with thing's and to have a room arranged for me.
"Thor, I'm sorry." I said as I turned back to look at him. But instead I looked down at my feet.
"Don't be." He lifted my chin with his large hand ever so gently. "I will come back soon. I promise. I have many things that need sorting, but I will return for you. I will also see about arranging a visit." He smiled and slowly tried to lean in for another, better kiss this time. I almost caved and let him, but I turned my head away last minute. "What is the matter?" Thor asked me confused.
"Thor, you still have a girlfriend. I can't be your second choice." He tried to speak, but I covered his mouth with my hand. "When you get things sorted, have your feeling's sorted too. It will give me time to figure out mine as well." I hugged him once more before quickly walking away.
I didn't think I'd be able to resist him again.
