Adjusting to A New World
THOR POV:
After the battle of New York, I returned to Asgard with Loki and the tesseract. The nine realms were in chaos. There was no way I was getting back to Earth as quickly as I originally hoped. I thought of Amara, and how I would be letting her down. I needed to tell her that I chose her and I would always choose her. Unfortunately, it would have to wait.
Father sentenced Loki to life in a prison cell in the Asgardian dungeons. Lady Sif, and the Warriors Three helped me conquer the war's and threat's against the nine realms within a couple of month's time. At least that's how much time passed by for me. As we returned home after the battle of Vanaheim, there was a great feast. I desperately tried to enjoy the party, but the one person I wished to come home to, was not here. I left the party and crossed the newly restored rainbow bridge towards the Bifrost.
"I sensed you would be coming to see me." Heimdall spoke without even turning to look at me.
"I see the Tesseract served you well in restoring the bridge." I stated.
"Yes, it served it's purpose and is now safely locked away in the weapons vault once again. But I assume this is not the reason you came to see me today." Heimdall shook his head.
"Indeed not. How is she doing?" I asked and watched as Heimdall's eye's glowed a golden yellow.
"Jane Foster, searches the cosmos for you. She is very bright young woman." Heimdall said as he smiled at me.
"That's actually not who I was referring to. I know you saw what happened on earth. I found her. Your niece." I stated. Heimdall sighed and looked at me.
"I keep watch over her, as I have every day since the day she left. I know I'm not supposed to interfere, but I had to send her that sword. I had to teach her how to start using her gift's. She's of age now that the barrier holding them back has started to weaken. Considerably faster that we thought, which is rather strange. Amara was certainly a valuable asset to your team on Earth." He said as he looked down towards the earth.
"I figured the sword I watched her so brilliantly use, was of Asgard. Amara was quite brilliant wasn't she? She's grown to be a beautiful young woman, Heimdall. I promised her that I would speak about a visit. But, I wish to bring her home permanently." I looked at him as he lifted his head to me.
"You know, I sent that mortal to care for her... I could see the goodness in his heart. He cared about her and she has been absolutely devastated since the loss of him. I only wanted happiness for her, for her to be safe. And even after the loss of her father and finding out she's not of Midgard, she did not wish to come home." Heimdall pointed out.
"Heimdall, she was scared. A lot happened to her in a very short amount of time. She would be very happy to know you. I'm sure of that. Do you think it possible for her to come home? If that's what she so chose?" I asked curiously.
"I would like nothing more then to allow her home. I, however, cannot guarantee that your Father, the King, will agree." Heimdall explained. We both paused for a moment. "I must tell you. As the Gate Keeper to the nine realms, I think Amara would be very lucky to have you. As her Uncle and sole blood family member left. I will suggest you do not hurt her." He raised his brow at me. I let out a thundering laugh and quickly noticed he did not reciprocate.
"Oh. Right. I promise you Heimdall, I would never do anything to intentionally hurt her. So, how is she now?" I smiled proudly.
"She is sad. For her father, I think. But I'm sure there's more she misses. I'm not sure you'd exactly like what she's doing..." He explained and I frowned. But before I could ask, Heimdall's face turned distressed. "You have another problem Prince of Asgard. The Midgardian woman, Jane has disappeared. I cannot see her."
"Send me to her." I stated. Heimdall placed his sword into the Bifrost and sent me in a flash back to earth.
AMARA POV:
"Nat, I really don't know about this. Why can't we just have normal game night?" I groaned as she did my hair.
"Mar, stop moaning about it. You're doing this. You are going to this club tonight with me, Clint, and Steve." She rolled her eyes at me in the mirror and smiled while finishing pining up my hair.
She's such a pain in my ass. But I really couldn't be more grateful to my friend's. No, my family. It's been 11 months since the Battle of New York. I live in Stark Tower still with Tony. He and Pepper are currently taking a little break. Last year, in December, after the incidents in New York, Pepper was kidnapped by a madman who had a vendetta against Tony. He saved her of course, but they mutually decided they needed a break.
I stayed with Tony. He needed me. He's become like a second dad to me, but he's still Tony. So, he's rather overprotective. We've had late night chats, he showed me some things in his workshop, like how he's builds his suits. It's been really great to learn so much about mechanics. I've been taking the time to learn more about my powers to. I have to say i've gotten pretty good. My shield's are a lot stronger, I can blast waves of energy from my hands, I can still move things with my mind, and I've gotten really good with my sword. Hand to hand combat training with Nat and Clint and Steve, firing range practice with Maria. It's been a lot of hard work and control but I've gotten this far.
Bruce stop's by and stay's at the tower sometimes, but he's usually off doing Bruce stuff with that big brain of his. Trying to stay out of the city and crowds of people. Clint and Nat, still work for Shield as Agent's, going on missions. I tag along sometimes, but usually I just work with Tony. Steve and I are the best of friend's. He's been my rock and foundation for so much of what has gone on here. He's the sweetest, most innocent guy, i've ever met which is super cute. We do flirt constantly. I think I might like him, but I know strangely my heart still yearns for Thor.
Thor. Oh lovely, Thor. I was mad for a while that he didn't come back for me. Eventually, I just assumed he had a good reason not to, but it still didn't make it hurt any less. I only told Nat and Tony about my feeling's for him, and that's how we ended up here tonight. Going Clubbing. Granted I think everyone gathered my feelings about Thor at some point. But no one's ever pressed the issue. It's still so weird for me that I want him. It's like a strange pull between us that I cannot describe.
Natasha insisted we needed fun and I needed to get my mind off of him. She's tried and failed to persuade me many times to date Steve because of the way we act around each other. In a way i've wanted to, but I also couldn't afford to lose the friendship I had with him. After getting all ready and taking one of the sport's car's from Tony's garage. We arrived at the club and the four of us went inside. There was a decent amount of people, drinking and dancing. The club was insanely loud, bumping to the music.
"It's crazy loud in here!" I shouted at them.
"You go find a table, we'll get the drinks!" Nat shouted back pointing at me and Steve to get the table and her and Clint would go retrieve the drinks.
"Let's go." Steve grabbed my hand and pulled me through the crowd of people, over to a round booth in the corner of the room. We sat down and waited for a few minutes. Then Nat and Clint joined us shortly after.
"Here you go!" Nat pushed a hour glass shaped drink at me and Steve intercepted it.
"Natasha you know she's not old enough to drink!" Steve scolded her.
"Oh come on, Steve! I'm only a little over two year's off!" I gave him my biggest begging eyes and added a little pouty lip that I knew would tease him. It's not like this would be my first drink. I mean, Nat is my best friend, come on.
"Yeah, Steve. Let the girl have a little fun. It's just one. Plus, I made sure to get her the weakest drink there was. It's basically a virgin pina colada." She winked at me and I chuckled.
"Fine." He grumbled, shaking his head at me. I saw the little smile he was trying to hide. I knew my begging would work.
"There ya go, Steve! Nice of you to join the fun!" Clint clapped Steve on the back teasing him for always trying to be so proper and following the rules.
He pushed a Bud Light bottle into Steve's hands. I took a sip of my colada and it was delicious. Nat had her martini and the boy's had their beers. After a little while a group of women walked over to our table, interrupting our fun.
"Oh, my gosh. I was right. You guys are the Avengers! Can we get a picture with you!" She pointed between her and her friend.
"Uh, yeah sure." Steve agreed.
The girl's bent down at the center of the table, we all leaned in and smiled as they took the picture. They giggled and laughed as they walked away.
"I don't think I'll ever get used to that." I said to the others.
"Me either." Steve nodded agreeing with me.
"Oh, please. You love getting all the attention from girl's like that. Their eyes all stare specially at you wherever we go. " I joked nudging his arm.
"Eh," Steve shrugged. "There's no other girl who could have my attention, unlike someone else I know." Steve said nudging me back. I rolled my eyes at him and took a sip of my drink unable to contain the smile that graced my lip's.
"You guy's really just need to go on a date already." Clint said casually, taking a swig from his beer bottle. Both Steve and I started coughing, choking on our drinks while Nat laughed hysterically at us.
"Come on. Both of you clearly like each other. Just go on one date and see what happens." Nat said seriously looking between us. Steve and I looked at each other and blushed before looking away.
"Okay, come on, Nat. Let's show these two how to have fun." Clint smiled and offered her a hand.
She willingly took it and gave me a face before they walked away to the dance floor. We watched as they danced around doing some crazy looking routine. We both laughed and enjoyed the show.
"Did you want to get up and dance too?" Steve looked at me and asked.
"I think, I would like that." I smiled at him and we walked together to the dance floor.
Steve started spinning me around. Making me laugh. A song by The Weekend was on and we danced and moved to the beat. We danced around like crazy people for about an hour. Until we decided that we needed a break. Steve pulled me off the dance floor and kissed my hand before he left to go towards the bathroom. I blushed and started back towards the table. Another hand grabbed mine pulling me back around.
"Hey, gorgeous. What's a pretty little thing like you doing in here alone?" The stranger was tall and certainly strong, he had a straggly thin beard and he smelt terribly like alcohol.
"Actually, I'm not alone." I pulled my hand away and he wrapped an arm around my waist.
"Hmm, doesn't seem like that to me. Come have a dance with me, sweetheart." He started to pull me back toward's the dance floor.
"Let go of me now. Or I promise you'll regret it." I slapped his face first as a warning.
"Oh, feisty. I like that in a woman." He leaned forward trying to kiss me. I had warned him and he choose not to listen. I managed to swing out from his arm's grasp and pulled his arm around his back. "What the hell?" He said as he tried to fight back. When he moved from my hold, I jumped and wrapped my legs around his neck and forced him to the floor. He slammed down and everyone in the room turned and looked at us even the music stopped.
"Wow, I was coming over to help out but apparently you've got this." Nat looked at me with her arms crossed impressed.
Clint held out a hand to me and I took it, climbing up and away from the guy. I brushed off my pants while the crowd erupted in to cheering at what I had done.
"I told you you'd regret it." I smirked at the man laying on the ground groaning. One of the bouncer's came over and grabbed the guy to throw him out of the club. Steve walked over with a confused look on his face as the bouncer escorted the man away.
"What happened?" Steve looked at us.
"Don't worry big guy." I tapped Steve's chest. "I handled it. I'll tell you about it on the way home." Unable to contain my smile as I walked towards the exit.
"Dude, if you don't make a move soon someone else is going to snatch that one up. She's pretty bad ass." Clint said as he grabbed Steve's shoulder.
The three followed me outside and we went back to the tower. I told Steve about what happened on the way home. Of course, he apologized for leaving me alone. Which made me roll my eyes, since I knew I could hand a simple drunk guy myself. But it was also really very sweet how much he cared.
"Hey, how was your night out? Aren't you all back a little early? I expected to be handing out mop buckets and aspirins in the morning." Tony greeted us at the elevator door.
"It was great Tony, until some drunk loser tried to make some advances on Amara here." Nat smirked at me. "But our little bad ass kid took care of it all by herself."
"What?! What does she mean by you took care of it?" Tony looked at me concerned.
"It was nothing, Tony. I warned the guy to let go and he didn't so I simply took him down that's all. Don't get to worked up about it. I didn't use powers or anything. Just knocked him to the ground." I shrugged walking over to the fridge and grabbed a Pepsi. I cracked it open and took a sip.
"Well at least you didn't get hurt." Tony sighed and shook his head, while running his hand through his hair.
"Don't look so stressed pop's your getting grey hair's." Clint snickered and Tony immediately frowned at him. "She was great. Like Nat said, she was a total badass." Clint teased.
He went and sat on one of the couch's, putting his feet up. I laughed at Clint's comment. I walked over to the other couch and Steve was sitting there. Legs crossed and arm out beside him. He looked up at me and winked. I rolled my eyes and sat under his arm, close to his body.
"Hey, why don't we play a game now since were all here anyway?" I suggested with a smile. "How about a card game. We could play Phase 10."
"Sure, kid. I'll get the card's." Tony grabbed the cards from the game shelf we had.
I had boughten stuff for us to do when we were alone and couldn't sleep, and for when the gang was all here. It was great and kept our minds occupied when we were bored. Tony came over to the table and passed out all the cards. Nat turned the tv on for some background noise and we began to play. Almost an hour had passed and we were still playing.
"Haha! 7 cards of one color. Phase 8 complete." Nat said smugly about the fact that she advanced to the next phase.
"Sorry Nat, same here. Plus two more blue down and one yellow in the discard pile. I'm out." I smirked at her. I had stuck Steve, Tony and Clint with their hands. They all groaned.
"Did anyone see her eyes glow? I swear they glowed. She's using her powers to cheat." Clint whined as a joke.
"They don't work like that." I chuckled. "Don't be such a sore loser." I stuck my tongue out at him.
"Okay, next round then." Steve said giddy to go again.
"Wait, guys look." Nat turned the volume up on the TV. We all looked up to see the news showing Thor in London fighting some type of Alien ship, the cameras zoomed in on Jane and Dr. Selvig.
"Wow and he didn't even invite us?" Clint said jokingly. Nat smacked him upside the head. "Ow! What was the for." She angrily nodded in my direction and Clint stopped.
"Kid?" Tony called out. I just stared watching the television. "Amara." Tony said again softly.
"I'm fine." I sat and turned my attention to the cards on the table. I felt Steve's hand land on my lower back. I turned and looked at him. I felt my eyes start to water so I stood up. "I'm just going to be in my room. Goodnight." I swiftly walked over to the hall before anyone could say anything else to me and up the stairs.
When I reached my bedroom, I slammed the door. Luckily Tony had reinforced just about everything in the building so there was no chance of us breaking things on accident. I walked over to my bed and threw my face into a pillow and screamed into it. I could feel small jolt's of power around my fingers. I sat up and looked at the backside of my pillow.
"Great." I mumbled to myself as I saw little black scorch marks on the back of the pillow.
I've mostly had my powers under control. The voice in the back of my mind is what sometimes helps me with figuring out how to do things. Like the jolt of power I had first experienced fighting the Chitauri on my own. I could focus that energy to radiate from my hand's like a ball or a blast now. The vision's though were a different story. I still hadn't had that happen again. So, I've come to the solution that it's like a psychic warning, a type of sense if I'm really in trouble.
My thoughts were interrupted by a knocking at the door.
