A Celebration
When it reached the day of Saturday. I got ready for the party. I really dreaded going. Although I did decide I was finally ready to talk to Tony. I needed to talk to him and apologize. I slipped on a little black dress that hugged my body tightly. I walked off towards the lounge where the party was being held, when I caught up to him. Tony saw me first and ran over to me.
"Kid!" He exclaimed and pulled me into a big hug.
"I'm sorry." We both said at the same time. We sighed and I squeezed him a bit harder.
"Tony, I'm sorry for the other day. Really very sorry. It's just the vision I had pulled me into something deep and dark. I honestly felt weird and not myself. I really hate that I snapped at you for it. I shouldn't have..." I leaned my forehead into his chest.
"Hey, You don't have anything to apologize for. I should have seen that you were going though something, but I didn't and instead I ended up pushing you to far. I'm sorry too that I didn't stand up for you. I know you're an adult now and can take care of yourself. But I should have done more and I'm sorry. I hope you'll forgive me." He said as he pulled my face to look towards him.
"Of course. As long as you forgive me too. And let's try not to fight like that again. I don't like fighting with you." I said and he chuckled and squeezed me again before taking my arm in his as he escorted us into the room.
We walked into the room and there was so many people. Drinking, laughing, telling stories, playing pool. It really seemed like it was going to be a rather merry gathering. I looked around the room and didn't see Thor yet. But my eyes landed on Steve so that's where I went. I caught him watching me walk over. I watched his breath hitched at the site of me. I couldn't help but blush and let out a little giggle to myself.
"Hello, boy's." I smiled at them.
"Oh, eh-hem." Steve cleared his throat. "Amara, you look... Wow." His eyes looked up and down, casually lingering a little to long on my chest that was somewhat exposed.
"Are you going to introduce me to your friend?" I smiled at him getting his attention back to my face.
"Oh, right. Sorry. Amara, this is Sam, Sam Wilson." Steve introduced us.
"Ah, yes. The bird guy that i've heard so much about. It's so nice to finally meet you in person." I chuckled and held out my hand for him to shake.
Sam looked at it and smiled. Grabbing my hand and pulling it to his mouth before lightly kissing it. His eyes never leaving mine.
"So you're the girl, Cap here never shut's up about." Sam let out deep laugh. I looked at Steve and his face turned beet red. I blushed as well.
"So what were you two gentlemen talking about before I walked up?" I grabbed a pool cue indicating that I wanted to play. They exchanged look's before Steve finally spoke.
"Well you know, about everything that happened last year. We still haven't found anything on where Buck might be." Steve sighed sounding a little discouraged. I put my hand on his upper arm and rubbed my hand gently up and down.
"Don't worry. You'll find him again, I'm sure of it." I smiled at him and he smiled back.
We played a round of pool. I couldn't help, but notice every time that either of the guy's looked at me. It made me laugh internally. As I was about to make my last shot I felt hands snake around my waist. And It made me miss my shot.
"Hey!" I turned around to meet Thor's face. He was holding a bottle of Asgardian liquor. He leaned in and kissed me. After our lips parted. "You made me lose." I pouted.
"Yeah. Thank's for that, Thor. Now pay up, Mar." Steve held out his hand with a small chuckle. I groaned and grabbed a 20 out of my bra. Steve's face turned bright red and took the money making me laugh.
"Excuse me, gentlemen. But I'm going to have to steal this one away now." Thor had a rather large smirk on his face. He threw me over his shoulder and walked away. I protested while laughing.
"Hey, put me down! I can walk myself you know!" I chuckled.
Thor put me down and wrapped his hand's around my waist pulling my body flush to his. He leaned down and caressed my cheek gently and kissed me again. I melted into him as always.
"Hey, guys!" Rhodes said as he and Tony walked over to us.
"You could at least find a room you know." Tony huffed playfully.
"Sorry, Tony." I chuckled. "Hey, Rhodes how are you? It's been a bit." Thor let go and I hugged Rhodey for a minute. Before leaning back into Thor's arms.
"I'm doing great actually. Been kicking a lot of bad guy's butt's out there you know. Rocking it as War Machine." I laughed at his comment and Tony clapped him on the shoulder.
"Sure buddy. Sure." Tony said sarcastically. Rhodey rolled his eyes.
"Why do I even talk to you guys? Every one else gets a kick out of hearing my stories." Rhodey mumbled.
"I'm sure they are very good. Impressive even." Thor said with a smug look on his face taking a sip out of his glass. His arm wrapped around my waist. Maria then walked over to us.
"Hey, guy's. Geez, where's all the ladies at. I'm glad I finally found one." She and I laughed. There's really not a lot of girl's on this team. We are pretty well out beat by the number of guy's.
"Hey, speaking of. Where's Pepper? She's not coming?" Rhodes asked.
"No, Ms. Potts has a company to run." Tony sounded a little sad, but he was certainly proud of her.
The night went on a little longer. We mingled with a few more guest's, laughing and having fun together. I had a few sips of Thor's Asgardian Liquor. I felt pretty great. Even though my heritage is Asgardian, I'd never actually had it before. So, it seemed to affect me pretty quickly. We walked around some more and noticed Steve. He looked a little down and we decided to go cheer him up.
"Hey, Steve!" I called out to him. He waved us over and we sat with him. "How's it going?"
"Well, it could be a lot better." He mumbled swirling the beer in his hand. "Kinda suck's that because of the serum... I can't get drunk." Steve explained and let out a small sad chuckle.
"Well, here try a glass of this." Thor took his bottle and poured a small whisky glass half way and handed it to him.
A older gentleman that was a guest noticed and asked Thor is he could try some too.
"Oh no, no, no. You see this was aged for 1,000 years in the barrel's built from the wreck of Grunhels fleet. It is not meant for mortal men. Captain here, can take it. This pretty thing next to me can too because she's also of Asgard." He pointed between us. I couldn't help but let out a giggle. I watched as Steve sloshed the drink around before taking a sip of it.
"Neither was Omaha Beach, Blondie. Stop trying to scare us. Come on." Another older man said.
The older gentlemen held out his glass. Thor looked between me and Steve and then shrugged. He poured him a very small amount in a shot glass. We all watched and after about 10 minutes had passed the man had taken two sip's and he needed to be escorted out. Thor, Steve and I laughed really hard.
"You only gave him a shot glass full and that's what it did. Jesus, this stuff his hardcore." I giggled sitting on Thor's lap on the couch. His hand ran up and down my thigh.
"He gave me a half full glass. I've barely made it halfway through what's in it. And I can definitely feel this. You'll have to get me one of these." Steve laughed.
"Of course, my friend!" Thor yelled out and clapped Steve on the shoulder with his free hand.
We all mingled until really late when most everyone had cleared out. I was given a beer, as everyone else had one. Now all that was left standing was the Avengers. I sat on Thor's lap still, together on the couch. My arm's laced around his neck. His hand's wrapped around my waist. Steve was still sitting next to us. Nat sat in the single lounge chair talking to Bruce who sat across from her on the couch with Clint, and Maria. Tony and Rhodes were sitting next to Steve on a bench.
"We should find something to do!" I called out.
"You know what I'd like to do?" Clint said smiling. "I'd like to know about Thor's almighty hammer over here." Everyone around us started agreeing and nodding making conversation about it.
"There's not much to know. It was made from the heart of a dying star. And to wield it, one must be worthy." Thor let out a loud laugh. He had given the flask to Steve of Asgardian alcohol and they clinked their drinks together.
"But it's a trick." Clint said. We've all clearly had way to much to drink, but we were having a great time together and that is what was important.
"No, no, it's much more than that." Thor and I clinked our beer's together.
"Ah, whosoever be he worthy shall haveth the power." Clint laughed mocking Thor. "Whatever, man. It's a trick."
"Please, be my guest." Thor laughed gesturing to his hammer that sat on the table in front of us.
I moved myself to sit beside him and he wrapped an arm around my shoulder.
"Really?" He asked a bit shocked.
"Well, yeah." Thor said.
"This should be fun." I laughed. Thor looked at me placing a kiss on my forehead.
"Oh yes, my love. It shall."
"Clint, you've had a tough week. We won't hold it against you if you can't get it up." Tony remarked. Causing everyone in the room to laugh.
"You know I've seen this before, right?" Clint stood up and looked down at us. He grabbed the handle to the hammer and tried to pull. Grunting loudly, but nothing happened. "I still don't know how you do it!" Clint laughed it off, shaking his head and reclaiming his seat.
"Smell the silent judgement?" Tony said judging him.
"Please, Stark, by all means." Clint gestured to Mjolnir.
Tony stood up clearing his throat and fixed his tie. He stepped up to Mjolnir next.
"Uh oh, here we go." I laughed. Tony shot me a whatever glance.
"Never one to shrink from an honest challenge. It's physics." Tony explained as the group of us chattered around him. He wrapped his hand around the handle of the hammer. "Right, so, if I lift it, then I rule Asgard?" Tony asked.
Thor and I looked at each other. I bit my bottom lip trying to stifle my laughter. We both turned and looked at Tony.
"Yes, of course." We spoke at the same time. Everyone broke out into small fits of laughter.
"I will be reinstituting Prima Nocta." Tony explained. He placed his foot on the table and pulled hard. Grunting loud, trying to desperately pick up the hammer. "I'll be right back." Tony said and he walked off.
I could only guess what he was up too. We all sat and waited for a few minutes. Before he returned in an Iron-Man glove. He tried hard to pull and still nothing. I had to cover my mouth so I wouldn't laugh.
"Are you even pulling?" Rhodes asked. He had gotten up and joined Tony. Both men trying to pull it up at the same time, using the iron gloves.
"Are you on my team?" Tony asked him back.
"Just represent. Pull." Rhodes said.
Both guys tried so hard before giving up. Tony looked at me as he walked back over to his seat.
"I saw you trying to hold back from laughing, Amara. Don't think I won't expect to see you try."
Next up was Bruce. He tried hard to pull, before ultimately letting go and letting out a rather fake hulky sounding roar. I think it made everyone uncomfortable, but we all held back little grins.
"This one's for you." Steve whispered in my ear.
He was clearly still coming down from his drunken high. Thor frowned, hearing his word's and pulled me a bit closer. Steve stood up happily and went to try to pull the hammer.
"Go, Steve. No pressure!" Tony called out.
"Come on, Cap!" Clint yelled out.
Steve pulled up the sleeves on his blue collared dress shirt he wore, putting his hands on the handle and giving it a tough pull. My hand was in Thor's and as Steve pulled, my breath hitched and I squeezed Thor's hand. Thor had seen what I did too. A tiny moment of movement from the hammer. Thor squeezed my hand in return. Steve tried again, but nothing happened this time. Thor was tense for a moment but quickly relaxed when nothing else happened. Steve didn't seem to notice the first time and gave up, returning to his seat next to me.
"Widow?" Bruce asked and gestured to the hammer.
"Oh, no, no. That's not a question I need answered." Nat smirked and went back to enjoying her beer.
"Alrighty then. I think it's Miss Amara's turn." Tony's smug face turned to look at me. My eyes opened wide and I bit my lip, before letting a smile come across my face.
"Uh, no, definitely not." I shook my head. Everyone in the room groaned.
"Aw, come on just try it." Rhodes nearly begged.
"Sounds like someone's afraid." Tony wiggled his eyes brows at me.
"The girlfriend of the God Of Thunder certainly should give it a try." Clint mocked with a big smile.
"Okay, okay. How come you're all okay with pestering me about it, but you didn't even fight with Nat?" I laughed.
"Like Clint said, sweetheart. You're the God of Thunder's girlfriend. You're certainly more qualified than anyone else in this room to try." Nat laughed and gestured to the hammer.
I turned to look at Thor and he waved his hand over to the hammer with a large smile on his face, basically giving me permission, not that I needed it.
"I don't think anyone's going to like the outcome." I mumbled quietly. I stood up from my seat and walked over to stand in front of Mjolnir.
"Wait, do you already know?" Bruce asked, obviously hearing what I had said.
I took a deep breath. I wrapped my hand around the handle and gave a very light pull. I twirled Mjolnir in my hand for a moment, then placed it back down. Everyone in the room stopped, being absolutely stunned.
"Ha, that's my girl!" Thor clapped. I put it back down and sat back directly in Thor's lap and he kissed my cheek.
"It's rigged." Tony grumbled.
"You bet your ass it is!" Clint laughed.
"Steve he said a bad language word." Maria pointed out. Steve turned and looked at me.
"Did you tell everyone about that?" Steve sassed me. I bit my lip and laughed.
"The handle's got to be imprinted, right? Like a security code. Whosoever is carrying Thor's fingerprints is, I think, the literal translation. Did you already know you could lift it?" Tony said and he directed the last question to me while smiling.
"Yes. Well that's, uh, a very, very interesting theory, Stark. I mean, Amara certainly is covered with my fingerprints." He winked at me causing a giant red blush to cross my face, making everyone else in the room groan. Tony near choked on the swig of his beer he had just taken. Thor put me beside him and stood up grabbing his hammer. "I do, however, have a simpler one. You're all not worthy." Thor explained and they all groaned some more.
"All right, really did you already know?" Steve asked with a smirk in the corner of his mouth. "Tell us."
"Alright, alright. Yes I knew. We were fooling around one day. Thor thought it would be funny too put Mjolnir on me so I couldn't get up..." A high pitch screeching sound started cutting me off. I covered my ears along with the other's.
"Worthy..." A creepy voice came from the hallway.
