6|Sleep
Do you ever lay awake
Late in the night, in your bed;
Going over the words that you said?
Driving yourself crazy, sometimes playing dead?
What a coincidence! I do, too.
Can't sleep at night, though I try to.
A swirl of thoughts my mind being shrewd;
It goes something like this:
The dark is strange, it's so black,
It's vivid, but it's a strange blank.
The cloud in the sky looks like a wizard's hat.
It's a peaceful night, there's noise everywhere.
The lights are out, it's too bright in here.
I bat my eyes at the moth in my room,
I imagine him on a silly attractive broom,
My mother next door is working the loom,
It's funny, how I'm surrounded yet alone;
I do have friends, yet I know I'm a Lone;
I often feel like a puppy without a bone.
It's sad what's inside of me;
Nowadays I'm never free.
A nightmare, a loud shriek;
I attempt to capture my demons and put them in deep.
I fight them off, cage them, make a leap;
And that's my daily routine before drifting off to sleep.
