Chapter 11: Nightmare Hospital
My eyes slowly pried themselves open and I found myself in a dimly lit, run down room. The walls were dirty and the ceiling was chipped, other than that I was laying on a cold surface.
An operating table.
I shot from the table and noticed the mask beside my face. I had just been under anesthesia, it falling off must've been some kind of wonderful luck.
I turned my head to see Thomas laying on a table beside me. I rushed over and removed the mask, shaking him in hopes of a response.
"Thomas!"
He grumbled.
"THOMAS!"
He shot up "Huh?" he scanned the room, a look of fear, worry, and confusion in his eyes.
"Where's Kelly?" he asked.
I had a moment of internal panic upon remembering everything.
Something happened outside of Silona, and if Kelly isn't here, that could be really bad.
I scratched my head "I don't know. But I do know that we're in some kind if hospital."
He looked around for a moment, "Let's go," he said sternly.
Without waiting for my response he jumped off of the table and walked out of the door.
"Wait!" I said. "We don't know what's in here!"
I walked by him, watching any and everything around us. The halls felt vacant, fluorescent lights took up what was barely left of the ceiling, although they served almost no purpose as most of them were either dead or just barely flickering.
The grey quarry floors were disgusting and a lingering odor filled the halls as we passed cobwebs that stretched big enough to block entire doorways.
We came across what seemed like a front desk, long unused. I recognized my bag sitting on the counter and sprung for it.
It felt as heavy as I remembered.
"I don't think any of our stuff in missing." I said.
Thomas put his bag over his shoulders, positioning his aluminum bat like a sword on his back.
I internally sighed at his continued silence, and my eyes wandered to find an elevator.
"C'mon..." I mumbled, beckoning him over.
We stepped into the small, dusty, metallic space and pressed the button for the first floor.
For a few seconds the ride, although rough, continued normally. Then we suddenly came to a halt way too soon to have made it all the way down. The doors pried themselves open on floor nine instead.
My brows furrowed and I pressed the button for floor one over and over again, but the doors wouldn't even close.
I turned around, "Maybe we should just use the stairs?"
Thomas coldly stared at me.
I couldn't handle it anymore. "Thomas you're killing me. Why won't you just say something? Anything. I don't care if it's to say you hate me, but this silence is ridiculous."
Thomas grumbled inaudibly.
"...What?"
That's when my heart nearly burst as static shot through the halls from broken, worn down intercoms. We covered our ears in response to the shrill noise.
Just then a figure appeared at the far end of the hall, and turned towards us.
I stepped back, uncertain of how to respond.
As it approached it passed through the dim light and I began to notice that something was horribly wrong. This thing was running towards me but I don't know what it was.
I mean, It's body was-
Thomas muttered, "The hell..."
It broke out speeding towards us.
"MOVE!" I shouted.
Thomas and I sprinted into a small room and locked the doors as the strange figure mindlessly rammed the thick glass window over and over until blood and disgusting bruises became visible in the poor lighting.
Its hands were substitute for the non existent arm on its left while lumps and baggy flesh seemed to cluster on certain parts of its "body".
Its facial features were disgustingly twisted in every wrong way and its lower eyelids seemed to stretch a pink fleshy path along the sides of the nose and into its gums where a large mouth hung open.
Whatever happened to it was beyond me, but that used to be a person.
In a panic, I went through my bag. I thanked god that most of my things were still there. I lost a few guns, mostly the larger machine guns but among everything else I had some guns from the fight, and all of my "runaway" gear.
As I eyed the contents I heard heavy footsteps in the distance.
Thomas and I ran and hid behind the high hospital bed, using old carts to obstruct the view of ourselves.
A man approached and a gunshot sounded. The strange figure fell to the ground and uttered a menacing groan as I cringed.
I flinched again as the man unleashed several more shots to the body before the moaning stopped.
Thomas and I froze up and held our things as close to us as possible.
The man tugged on the knob and I tensed up.
He pulled out a ring of keys and unlocked the door, dragging the disgusting corpse in with him.
As Thomas and I continued to hide, the man approached two large sliding doors at the far end of the room and flung them open.
I froze as my ray of vision shot into the huge room. The air filled with a thick foulness and I felt short of breath as my hands crippled themselves at the sight of nothing but countless bodies and severed limbs suspended in thick chains.
The man reached up and pulled down a large chain, hooking it around the former person's neck, and suspended the fresh corpse along with others with a toss.
Without turning the man spoke, "I know you're here."
Thomas snatched my arm and flew out of the door before I could react. We bolted through the barely visible corridors, turning corners and flying through one door and out the other so much that I began to think this hospital was some type of sick endless labyrinth.
We finally ran into a large medicine booth and locked the door behind us, barricading it with everything around us. With the doors blocked with shelves and chairs I collapsed under the dim green lighting, exhausted, while Thomas sat down beside me.
"T-Thomas... You can't keep doing that... My body..." I panted. "...Isn't that strong..."
He sat there, acknowledging my statement with a nod.
...What's up with you?
