You snored as you leaned against Oswalt who was scrolling through his phone, both of you standing by the Wishing Well super early in the morning. The sun wasn't even peeking out over the hills yet. And while he should be annoyed by you using him as a pillow, Oswalt was more impressed you were able to sleep while standing. You really worried him at times.

Ruby: Why does it have to be this early?

Oswalt looked over to find Ruby dragging her feet as she fought with herself to get to the Well. She had stayed up late the night before editing the newest MirrorCast video for Blondie. Namely, Blondie interviewing Raven about what she had to deal with during the whole Royal against Rebel thing. It was actually very insightful, but Ruby was ready to pass out on the spot.

She had a backpack with her which held her stuff for the Mirrorcast so she could work on some stuff while she was gone. And where exactly were the three of you going?

To Oz.

You see, there was a tiny issue of the fact that none of you had an animal companion. Everyone else had one. Lizzie had Shuffle, Maddie had Earl's Gray, Kitty had her caterpillar that was just kinda everywhere doing whatever it wanted, and so on and so forth. And after returning from the resort, Ozma had suggested that the three of you should go back to Oz to get your animals.

And so, with the three of you gathered, Oswalt picked you up and threw you into the Well, your scream cut off just as you woke up, and hopped in as well.

Wicked: I do love when we can all get together like this.

Wicked was sitting at the head of the table while you laid face down in the pile of food, Oswalt ate quietly, and Ruby was frantically polishing up the thumbnail for the next MirrorCast episode. Ozma and Dorothy were sitting opposite of Wicked and were more aware to the fact that the three of you were in your own worlds.

Y/N: Sleep is good.

Oswalt: I wanted to go to class today.

Ruby: MORE BUZZWORDS!

The door to the dining room opened again as Braum walked in, still wearing her nightgown, before taking a seat beside you. She lifted your head by the hair, grabbed a piece of bacon, dropped your head back down, and took a bite.

Braum: Why do we have to do this so early again?

Wicked: Well, it's tradition! Me and my sister got ours at sunrise. And Oz got his early in the morning.

Oswalt: I thought Braum was his animal.

Braum growled.

Braum: I'm not an animal, punk. I got turned into a Griffith later. Your dad's animal was a cat.

Oswalt looked to his mother for confirmation. Wicked nodded.

Ozma: And your mother's was a flying monkey. They were drawn to her, so it seemed right. Sadly, though, they did go extinct some time ago.

Dorothy: Which I'm actually sad about. I didn't have good memories of them, but they were just scared animals at the end of the day.

Wicked: And very loyal. Other girls had doves and deer to get them ready, but I had actually animals with thumbs to help me.

Oswalt just eyed his mother in worry. He turned back to his food and began to wonder what kind of animal he would get. Would it be a cat like his father? But, that would be weird with him engaged to Kitty and such. Would that be awkward?

You suddenly sat up and looked around with wide eyes, scaring everyone by your sudden movement. Your eyes darted around.

Y/N: When did we get here?

Ruby: Uh...like an hour ago?

You blinked and looked down to find the plate of smashed food. You smiled and started to scoff it down much to Braum and Oswalt's disgust.

Dorothy slowly turned to her beloved.

Dorothy: Is this from my side of the family?

Ozma: Your brother did have quite the appetite.

Dorothy looked back to you.

Dorothy: Must be from Oz's dad.

Ozma: I wouldn't be surpised.

Regardless, Ozma rose and cleared her throat. Once you were all looking to her, she smiled.

Ozma: Okay. Let's get this started.

You all ended up standing in the grand chamber of the Emerald City. The same place your father would grant everyone's wishes. However, set up in the middle of the chamber was a large door that connected to....nothing.

The green walls were illuminated by the light bulbs that had been here since forever. Their buzzing would be unsettling if it wasn't for the fact that there was a small group around you. Wicked and Dorothy hung behind while you, Braum, Oswalt, and Ruby stood in front of the door. Ozma stood beside it, ready to do the ceremony.

Ozma: Today you will be given your animal companions. Each of you will take a turn and approch the door.

She touched said door.

Ozma: The magic of this door will connect you with the animal most connected to your soul. Let's start with our oldest. Braum, step forward.

Braum groaned over being referred to as the oldest, but apporched the door anyway. She stood there before looking to Ozma who nodded. Taking a breath, Braum reached forward and knocked on the door. She took a step back and waited as the door remained still. You all watched and waited in anticipation.

Then, slowly, the door began to open. You all watched before you heard a low hiss. From the dark came a creature, but you all had to look down to spot it.

A python slithered out into the open before it began to rise up to look at Braum. She waited, before she kneeled down. She held out a hand and the python seemed to examine her.

It then began to crawl up her arm, finally resting on her shoulders and neck. Braum smiled and began to rub the Snake's chin.

Ozma: Python. A very exotic animal. Do you have a name for it?

Braum: Of course I do. My favorite snake is now named after my favorite food. Pancake.

The snake appeared to be pleased with the name as Braum walked back to join Wicked and Dorothy. Though Dorothy was a bit scared of the animal, Wicked immediately began to shower it with love.

Ozma: Oswalt, it's now your turn.

Oswalt nodded and walked over to the door. He began to knock on the door, but the first time his hand made contact with the wood, it began to open. He had no time to respond before he was tackled by an unseen force.

Oswalt was already about to snap at whatever animal had pushed him down, but he stopped when he saw just what it was.

Pup: *Woof!*

Oswalt blinked in surpise at the black dog that was looking down at him, his tail wagging back and forth. He was so hexcited to be here, wherever this was, and he was seeing a lot of great people and his human looked really cool! Was that a robot hand? That means even better pats! And the scratches, the best!

He began to lick Oswalt's face which actually made him laugh a bit. You and Ruby watched wide-eyed, wondering if you had heard him laugh like.....ever.

Oswalt lifted the pup up and took a good look at him. His fur was short and black, and his ears were pointed. However, he also had a tan underbelly colour. His tail was a bit long and pointed, at least from what Oswalt could see with how fast it was moving, and he also had green-ish eyes.

Oswalt: Uh, hi.

Ozma could only smile at the sight of Oswalt holding the pup.

Ozma: Do you have a name for him?

Oswalt gave it some thought. He couldn't really think of anything, but Braum did give him an idea.

Oswalt: How about, Toto?

Dorothy smiled as Oswalt walked over to join her and the others. Oswalt kneeled down and set Toto down to sit. He then reached into his back pocket and brought out a green handkerchief. He tied it around Toto, giving him a makeshift collar.

Ozma: Y/N, your turn.

You smiled, excited to see what you would get. You hurried over and stood up straight to knock on the door. You stepped back and waited, but nothing happened. You raised a brow, still smiling, before looking to Ozma. She just smirked.

The door suddenly shot open and something collided with your face. You rolled backwards before the creature let go, and began to fly. You sat up and looked up to find something utterly shocking.

A....flying monkey.

You chuckled in disbelief while the others watched in wonder. The flying monkey landed and watched as you stood up. You looked down and held out your hand.

Y/N: Hey, buddy.

The monkey shook your hand before he climbed up your arm and rested on your shoulder. His black fur blended in with your hair and his green eyes shined like true emeralds. You reached up and began to scratch his chin.

Ozma: So, does he have a name?

You hummed as you thought about it.

Y/N: Hmmm.....what about Kansas? Assuming this is actually an animal and not another person.

Kansas seemed to cheer at his name as he did a little dance on your head. You giggled, his dancing felt ticklish, before he flew up and began to explore the chamber. You walked backwards towards the group before Kansas returned onto your shoulder. You began to pet him while leaving Ruby as the last Ozzian to go.

Ozma nodded to her and Ruby took a breath before walking forward. She was really nervous for some reason. Still, she was also super excited. She began to reach out and barley touched the door before a loud roar came from the otherside. You all jumped, watching as Ruby took a few steps back.

The doors began to slowly open, revealing the blank space. And from it, came a large paw. Ruby's eyes locked onto the large cat that was walking out from the darkness, it acting as a kind of fog that pulled from the creature's dark fur. It's green eyes watched Ruby as it began to stalk.

Oswalt: What is that?

Dorothy: Something from my world. That's a panther.

Y/N: The Hex is a panther?!

The Panther stopped as it locked eyes with Ruby. Then, it began to charge at her. You all started to react, until something weird happened.

The panther suddenly shrink in size in a puff of smoke, turning into a kitten that latched onto Ruby's chest. Ruby's heart was racing from the scare, but when she looked at the kitty, it seemed to be smiling.

Kitten: *Mew*

Ruby stared at it in silence, before lifting her up with the brightest smile.

Ruby: I LOVE HIM!

She began to hug the panther-kitty and squealed. The love seemed to return as the kitten began to pur.

Oswalt: Oh my Wizard she has a pet panther.

Y/N: The Reader World has creatures like that?

Dorothy slowly shook her head. Maybe it wasn't a panther after all.

Ruby once again held the cat up and turned to the rest of you.

Ruby: Everyone say hello to Omby! The Soldier with Green Whiskers!

Omby: *Mew!*

Upon closer inspection, the cat did in fact have green whiskers. Ruby rushed over to all of you and you all began to show off your own animals. Ozma, Wicked, and Dorothy all watched with happy looks.

Ozma: It's easy to forget they're just kids.

Wicked nodded in agreement. She had missed so many events in your lives, but she was happy that she would never have to miss another.

And, hey, you got some cool pets.

Ozma: Oh, I know. Let's have some morning coffee!

You laughed as you fed Kansas another peanut. You were all in the lounge, getting familiar with your new companions. Braum was petting Pancake who was occasionally sticking his tounge out. He seemed at peace.

Oswalt was petting Toto who was still wagging his tail around. Ruby was already working on brushing Omby, who was full sized, with a brush that Ozma had brought from a shop in the city. The large cat was purring, clearly enjoying the attention.

Ozma and Dorothy sat nearby with some coffee, just watching the four of you having a good time. However, that good time was halted when Oswalt's MirrorPhone rang. You looked over as he reached into his pocket and pulled it free.

Oswalt: Kitty?

He answered and placed the phone to his ear.

Oswalt: Hey, miss me alr....wait, slow down. What's happening?

You all slowly stopped what you were doing and watched as Oswalt's face paled. He then looked over to you, telling you that something was wrong.

Oswalt: We're on our way. Stay safe.

Oswalt hung up. He stared at his phone while you leaned forward.

Y/N: What's wrong?

He finally turned back to you.

Oswalt: EAH. Something.....people are changing, into Zombies.

You all sat there in silence.

Y/N: What the hex are Zombies?

From the Wishing Well, the four of you ran back towards the school in a hurry. Your animals gave chase as well, with Pancake wrapped around Braum's neck and Omby keeping pace just fine. Kansas and Toto were a bit slower, but you were surpised when your feet suddenly left the ground.

Kansas was carrying you and you were now flying faster than the group. It didn't take long before you spotted the Orchard.

Legacy Orchard was on Ever After High's property, but not many realized just how expansive the property was. They needed grounds for the Hero-in-Training class, so all of the mountains, cliff-sides, valleys, and caves a hero would need to venture. There were also the open forests dedicated for princesses to practice their singing to woodland creatures.

And there you found a group of very confused students, all groaning and trying to figure out what even happened. Kansas let you go and you landed, running over to where you saw what looked like a makeshift lab was set up. However, you were suddenly halted when you saw someone....you had never seen before.

???: Uhhruhhgu.

You stood there frozen for a moment as the hunched over girl was seeming dragging her legs around like she was injured. You watched her for a moment before she seemed to notice you. She turned around and you flinched at the sight of her.

???: Ruh?

Y/N: Ruh?

???: Ruh.

Y/N: What?

Hunter: Y/N?

You looked around before you spotted Hunter checking on Faybelle, who looked like she had just went a storm. He rose to his feet and hurried over as the other Ozzians arrived. The blue girl looked at your siblings and Braum and tilted her head.

Y/N: Hunter, what happened?

The girl lifted a finger and began to make a bunch of groaning noises while you all stared at her. She finished her..."explanation" and lowered her finger, slowly blinking. You looked to Hunter who shrugged.

???: Ghoulia, we need more vials.

You all turned to see another strange girl hurrying over. Behind her Oswalt spotted Kitty, and immediately headed her way to make sure she was alright.

Y/N: Who are...

The girl stopped when she spotted you, looking confused.

???: What are you doing here? I thought you were rounding everyone up.

Did she know you? And who exactly were you supposed to be rounding up? And WHAT WAS HAPPENING?!

???: Huhruhh uhuhhh.

???: What do you mean that's not Y/N?

Y/N: I am Y/N, but who are you?

???: Huhhhh.

Y/N: What are you saying?

???: She's speaking Zombish.

Y/N: What the hex is Zombish?!

The two girls looked at you before it clicked.

???: Oh. We heard about you. Ozzie, right?

Okay, so you didn't know them. But they knew you.

???: My name is Cleo. This is Ghoulia. You're Cupid's friend, right?

Ruby: Cupid? Is she alright? What happened?

The gold wearing girl took a deep breath.

Cleo: That's a long story. But, I should start with the fact that we're not from this world. We're from a different place.

Braum raised a brow before she snapped her finger.

Braum: Oh, are you from the Monster World?!

The ghouls looked over to Braum but were surpised to find a python chilling on her neck.

Cleo: Uh, yes. We are. You know about it?

Braum: Only a bit. Drac was from there.

Your dad's roommate? You always forget that he was here at one point.

Cleo: Perfect. That can help speed things up. There was a specific strain of their virus that was mutated by a vampiric overlord around 3000 years ago, causing them to have the same hunger for, the living, but just past the blood.That specific strain, known as the Meditian Virus, kinda turns people into mindless hungry monsters who attacks whatever living thing the see.

Yeah, that was a lot to take in. You looked around to see that most of your peers were here, with Lizzie and Maddie drinking tea while Oswalt spoke to Kitty, probably learning the same thing you were.

Y/N: So, did anyone get hurt?

Cleo: No, at least no one we've found. But we have a cure and we're working on getting everyone back to normal. And...

You all suddenly jumped when Nevermore flew overhead at top speed. The gust from her wings made everyone in the orchard lift their arms to protect themselves from the wind. You opened your eyes and watched as Raven flew off in a hurry.

Ruby: Where is she going?

Cleo: Wait, that's our transport!

You narrowed your eyes before looking back to the school.

Y/N: We can help with moving everyone. Who is still in there?

Ghoulia handed you the yearbook, which you carefully took, and pointed at the pictures that weren't marked. Looked like there was only a few left.

Braum: So we just round them up and bring them here?

Cleo: No. We have people with crossbows that have the cure. Lead the infected to them and they can give them the cure.

You watched as she brought out a kind of coffin shaped device.

Cleo: What is your Crypt Info?

The three of you blinked. You brought out your MirrorPhone and showed it to her.

Cleo: Right. Different.....I'll just let them know to look for someone that looks like our friend.

You shared an odd look with Ruby and Braum before looking to Kansas. You lifted your hand and the flying monkey took it, lifting you up.

Y/N: This is so cool!

You held onto Kansas as he carried you towards the school. Ruby was about to follow before she found herself being nudged by something. Omby rolled Ruby onto his back and waited for her to sit up.

Ruby: Oh, this works.

Ruby pointed to the school and cheered as Omby ran forward. Braum stood there for a moment before looking at her snake. She sighed and just started to run.

Whatever was happening here, it was something new to you. But if your classmates were in danger, you could wait for answers later. Right now, you needed to hurry.
