Spring Unsprung Begins
Spring time at Ever After High has finally arrived. And to take her mind off of the terrible things that have been occurring in the last week or so, she decided to look for inspiration.
Lizzie opened the book her mother had given her, a very secret thing that many did not know about, and used it to locate the Well of Wonder. The source for Wonder and inspiration in Ever After.
The well appeared before her when she got near it. The old stones were suddenly drowned by Wonderfilled waters that shined in many beautiful colors.
This was the Well Briar threw the Storybook of Legends into, not the Wishing Well as she believed. Oswalt made sure of that. His magic told him where the Well was at all times.
Even now, he watched from a nearby tree as Lizzie ran her hand among the water. He grinned. He knew the Storybook of Legends had found it's way to Wonderland by now. No one else did.
But what he didn't know, was that you were now in Wonderland as well. And you had just found the Palace of the Queen of Hearts.
Kinda.
You were still a ways away from it but you were getting closer.
Inside, guards lead two young "criminals" through the halls. Alistair Wonderland, son of Alice, and Bunny Blanc, daughter of the White Rabbit.
They were brought to the throne of the Queen of Hearts herself. There, they were forced on their knees as the Queen watched.
Queen of Hearts: The baby bird sings. The snake, it slithers. But the cage holds them both, to die and to wither.
Alistair and Bunny flinched at the obvious threat.
Alistair: What?
Queen Hearts: This....
She suddenly dashed down the steps from her throne and glared at both of them.
Queen Hearts: Is your last warning! The next time my guards catch you "exploring", it'll be OFF WITH YOUR HEADS!
The threat echoed through the castle and even to the grounds around it. You stopped when you heard her. You shuddered at the thought of dealing with a more unhinged Lizzie. One with actual power to have you beheaded.
You sighed, knowing you had no other option. You needed to get an audience with the Queen. As you walked onto the grounds, Alistair and Bunny were being escorted out.
Bunny: Ow! You're hurting me!
Alistar: Let us go!
The guards shoved the two of them forward, making them land in the dirt.
Guard: Get lost, you two. We have enough trouble as it is preparing for the tournament today.
Alistair helped Bunny up and the two glared at the guards before walking away. The guards returned to their posts, completely missing you walking into the castle.
But, to understand what will come to be during your time here, we must go back in time.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Long ago, Wonderland knew a Happily Ever After like no other. A joining of love that would reverberate throughout the land of dreams until the end of time. A moment of peace that existed in a world where such things could never be.
A time where the Queen of Diamonds would come to know a love like she had never known before. Or ever again.
Everything she had known....everything she had loved...was gone. Leaving her alone with her rage. It was a rage that would drive her to search for the ones responsible for her tormented existence.
But whether it was her perfect daughter, the White Queen, or the madness of her youngest, the Queen of Hearts, the source of her pain could not be found.
She laid at the grave of her lover for days, never wanting to leave his side. The sisters of red and white began to fight among each other, forming their own lands of Red and White.
And when spring came, the Queen of Diamonds faded from the living and joined her lover in death.
~~~~~~~~~
Now, every 5 years, a tournament of warriors was held in honor of the mother of Wonderland. The one who died alone ontop of a grave.
And it just so happened that you stumbled into the castle on that very day.
Back at Ever After High, the school held a festival worthy of Wonderland itself. A new tradition started by the White Queen after Wonderland was closed off. But not one of swords clashing or meaningless battles. No. This was the Spring Festival!
Music played over the speakers as many went around and enjoyed the spring traditions. From eating fried food that shouldn't be fried to riding rides with friends. It is here that we find Raven and Apple participating in yet another event.
Raven: This has got to be my favorite tradition. Treeffiti! Decorating the trees.
Apple: Black and white to represent winter.
Maddie suddenly popped in from above, hanging upside down from the tree branch.
Maddie: And a dash of floral color to show that spring has sprung.
Yes, everyone was having a good time at the festival. From a friendly game between the headmasters of Ever After to Daring and Hopper impressing the ladies at the strength test.
Well, Daring was mostly impressing them. Hopper was...turning into a frog every time a girl looked his way.
Sparrow was in the dunk tank, perfectly annoying everyone enough to hit bullseye after bullseye to get him dropped into the water.
But, while everyone enjoyed the festival, Ruby found herself still in a rather depressed state of emotions. You would love to be here, but you weren't. Oswalt was. Though, she hasn't seen him around either.
She didn't like that he was running around anymore. She loved her brother, but she also knew what evil he was capable of. She wanted to make sure he wouldn't do anything at the festival, but he seemed to be laying low since his threat against everyone.
Apple: Hey, Ruby.
Ruby looked up to see Apple, Raven, and Maddie walking to her.
Raven: What's wrong?
Ruby: It's Oswalt. He's still running around and it's making me really uneasy.
Maddie: I don't blame ya. I mean, that guy is bonkers!
Raven and Apple sat on either side of your sister and pulled her into a hug.
Raven: I know. And we will find a way to stop him.
Apple: But for now, you should try to enjoy the festival. Take you mind off of it for today at least.
Ruby: Yeah, I guess.
The two older girls pulled her to her feet and lead her towards the rides. She smiled slightly. Maybe she could relax for today.
---------------
You walked through the halls of the castle before you emerged into a large open room where a single throne sat ontop of a long passage of stairs that seeming twisted and turned in every direction. You couldn't begin to guess how one would walk on them.
However, your eyes landed on the one at the top. You smiled, slightly relieved to see someone with a familiar face. She kinda did look like Lizzie.
You took a step forward and opened your mouth, only for a tip of a spear to enter it, stopping you from speaking.
Guard: Do not speak unless spoken to, outsider.
Y/N: Huh?
Queen Hearts: Who goes there?
You turned back to the Queen and awkwardly stood there. You looked to the guard who finally removed his spear.
Y/N: Uh, my name is Y/N. Y/N Ozymandias. I came here...
Queen Hearts: WHAT?!
She was suddenly in front of you, glaring at you.
Y/N: Uh....
Queen Hearts: You're Y/N Ozymandias?! The Ozzian that my daughter has befriended?!
She knows about you. Great. She also knows you and Lizzie are friends. That was....good? You hoped it was good.
Y/N: Y-Yes, your majesty.
The Queen took a deep breath, then smiled.
Queen Hearts: Lovely to meet you, then. I am the Queen of Hearts. The ruler of Wonderland.
She seemed pretty ni....
Guard: Your majesty?
Queen Hearts: WHAT?!
The guard shrunk in fear. He then began to shake.
Guard: T-The tournament preparations are nearly complete.
The Queen suddenly began to smile again.
Queen Heart: Oh!
She turned to you.
Queen Hearts: Come along, Y/N. We shall walk as we talk.
She walked off without another word. You and the guard looked at each other for a second before you followed.
------------
Ashlynn: Hunter loves me, he loves me not.
Ashlynn plucked the pedals from a flower as she walked to the place she and Hunter were to meet. As she plucked the last pedal, she frowned.
Ashlynn: He loves me not.
However, she found a ring of flowers stuck to a pole next to her, hanging from an arrow. She gasped in joy as Hunter appeared.
Ashlynn: Oh, Hunter.
She pulled the ring of flowers off the arrow and place them around her boyfriend's neck. The two smiled at each other happily.
Not too far away, students cheerfully laughed and shouted from the swinging ride. Kitty was among those students. She giggled as she held two ice cream cones. She let one go, which flew right into Dutchess' head.
Dutchess: Argh! What did you do that for?!
Kitty: Duh, daughter of the Cheshire Cat.
She let go of the other ice cream cone and pulled out her MirrorPhone. She snapped a picture of Dutchess and laughed to herself.
Kitty: Mom would love this! I gotta brag!
She used her free hand to draw the symbol of the Cheshire Cat. She then expanded it, acting as a call of sorts.
This call traversed even the MirrorNet. It was a direct link to the Cheshire Cat herself. The woman laid, taking a cat nap, within the Well of Wonder itself. She was not bound to Wonderland, but she could always go there should she desire to.
The call connected and the Cheshire Cat began to wake up.
Kitty: Hi, Mom. Did I wake you?
The Cheshire Cat yawned, but smiled.
Cheshire: It was just a catnap, Kitty! My darling, how are things?
She tapped her chin.
Cheshire: Any good pranks to share with mommy?
Kitty: Yes! I learned from the best!
She showed her mother the picture she took of Dutchess with a wide smile.
Kitty: I threw ice cream into Dutchess' face......
Cheshire: Slapstick? Really? Preschool pranks.
Kitty frowned a bit.
Cheshire: Call me back when you've done something outlandish, something that turns the world topsy turvy, something....Wonderlandiful!
Cheshire laid back down, but Kutty suddenly remembered what she did to the bell tower for Oswalt. Surely that was a Wonderlandiful amount of chaos.
Kitty: But, Mom, I....
Cheshire: Yes?
Kitty stopped herself. Should she tell her mother? Should she tell anyone what Oswalt got her to do? She still felt ashamed about it, but she also had a strange sense of pride.
But, would her mother understand?
Kitty: I'll do better.
Cheshire: You're a Cheshire! Of course you will. Bye!
She closed her eyes and laid back down as the call ended. However, she was unaware of another presence in her "home".
A figure who had watched the entire thing.
Oswalt: Well, well. Looks like I found the cat that sleeps under the Well.
Cheshire opened her eyes to see Oswalt standing on the banister above her. She sat up confused. How was anyone else here? And who was he?
Oswalt: No need to be afraid, my dear. Though, I must say, the Cheshire Cat is more beautiful in person.
Oswalt hopped down from the rail and landed in front of the Cheshire Cat.
Cheshire: And who might you be?
Oswalt smiled. He kept his hands in his pockets, making sure not to seem threatening to the woman. He then bowed slightly.
Oswalt: The name's Oswalt Ozymandias.
The woman's eyes grew wide.
Cheshire: Ozymandias? As in....
Oswalt: The son of Oz. Yes. You knew my father from your time attending Ever After High, I take it. After all, you were classmates, were you not?
The Cheshire Cat rose to her feet and looked the boy from head to toe. He was a spitting image of your father. Even had the same eyes.
Cheshire: Well, what brings you here, Pup?
Oswalt grinned.
Oswalt: Well, I'm about to cause a bit of chaos. But, I figured I'd speak to the master of chaos herself.
Cheshire purred as she began to smile.
Cheshire: I'm listening.
-------------------
You walked with the Queen of Hearts through the halls of her castle. She walked just like Lizzie, or maybe Lizzie walked like her. Her scepter was held high and she walked in such a pace that you found it hard to keep up without slightly jogging.
Queen Hearts: You came just in time! I needed a new champion since my other one is now lacking a head.
Y/N: Right right. Well I'm always happy to......wait, what?
You both entered a room where a suit of armor and weapons were set up.
Y/N: Uh, Y-Your Majesty, I'm not a knight.
Queen Hearts: Of course not. But you are the only one here. So, you will represent me in the tournament as my champion.
You scratched the back of your neck and began to wonder just what you were about to get roped into. You just wanted to ask for some help in getting back to Ever After.
Though, you figured it would make sense that she would want you to do something for her. Besides, it was just a tournament. How bad could it be?
Maybe it would be good for you to get your sword skills back to what they were before.
Queen Hearts: Get ready. The tournament is about to begin! You will be my new Knave of Hearts!
You turned to the suit of armor and took a breath.
Y/N: Alright. Guess I'm doing this.
You shrugged.
Y/N: Might need to make some adjustments to the armor, though.
The End Is Just The Beginning.....
