seven
it was his first day at kindergarten today, he cried
in front of the building, tugging at his mother's hand
roughly, whining the same words over and
over.
"mummy, i don't wanna go, i don't wanna, mummy, please get me out of here!" he yelled, a few bystanders turning
to their direction, watching the protest
unfold.
his mother lifted him up and cradled
him in her arms, stroking his
soft, brown, feathery hair while his tiny
fingers gripped his mother's
shirt.
"it's gonna be okay, baby, it's going to be okay. you'll make some friends and everything will be alright" she whispered
to him, rocking him
in her arms.
after he calmed down, his mother put him back
down gently, kissing his forehead as a
goodbye and sending him away with a lady, wiping her tears
away with a tissue.
i followed him and the lady who
guided him inside the building, taking him to
a room where a few more kids have
settled.
she stored his small backpack and let him run
off to the kids.
a certain brown haired boy with an orange lunchbox in his hands
called to him, stopping him in his
tracks.
he took slow, cautious steps towards the
boy and sat down on the seat next to
him.
"i'm niall, want a carrot?" the boy pushed his orange lunchbox towards
louis.
he reached his hand out and grabbed a small, thin
carrot, cautiously biting it as he started at the
boy.
"i like carrots" he mumbled, swallowing the
vegetable as the boy reached out to grab some as
well.
"me too. i actually wanted to bring some cookies, but mummy said i can't" the boy shrugged, munching
loudly.
"what's your name?" the boy asked him.
"louis" he answered
simply.
"well, louis, you are my best friend now!" the boy exclaimed, squishing him into a tight
hug.
louis laughed and wrapped his arms around
the boy.
a weird feeling started to rise inside my chest, because
no.
louis was mine.
