The moon hung low in the sky as Evelyn walked along the lake path. She was on her way home, and the scenic route had seemed much more appealing to her. It was the long way around but she had already missed her eleven pm curfew. What difference would an extra ten minutes make anyway?

Eve felt at complete peace. Her mind was still reeling from the crazy evening she had, but the peaceful sound of the water running was calming and relaxed her. She knew that her parents would not approve of her being out alone, so late. But what they didn't know wouldn't hurt them.

The path had opened up to a wider area of the lake. It was Eve's favourite area, and she stopped for a moment and closed her eyes. If she concentrated enough, she could almost imagine herself in a scene from a movie.

She was still for a few minutes before she opened her eyes and looked around. It was a sheltered area with a canopy of trees surrounding her. It was far from the road, with the only access via the path she had come down, or from a little boat.

And it was in those few seconds that she noticed it. The thing that would change her life forever.

In the light of the moon, a body hung from the branch of a tree, a rope tied tightly around the neck. Eve approached, her footsteps loud and intrusive. Her breathing ragged, and her heart beating at triple speed.

The face of the corpse was pale, almost a silvery colour in the light. Crimson blood stained the clothing and had gathered in a puddle on the floor.

But it wasn't just an unidentified body. It was the body of her beloved older sister.

Eve screamed.
