{9 - Love In Plain Sight}

"Why? . . . Why is my tree withering away. . . ?" I ask myself as I stand in front of it. No. It can't be. . . What's going on?

"Eve? Are you okay?" I wake up to the sound of my name being called. When I open my eyes, Yui is sitting on the bed that I'm lying on.

"Yui? What's going on? Where am I?" I ask her as I sit up from the bed. But then I suddenly remember. I was locked in the basement, where Ruki had put me in, then Subaru-san appeared and took me back. But why?

"You're in my room right now. Subaru-kun brought you here. Don't you remember?" Yui tells me as she rests her hand on my shoulder. "Are you okay? I've been so worried about you." She frowns.

"Why be worried? I thought giving myself up to the Mukami brothers, so that you can return to the Sakamaki brothers, was the right thing. You shouldn't be worried. I chose to give myself up."

"But your smiles were fake, Eve. . . I could tell." Yui frowns again. "All this time you've been hiding your pain. Why is that?"

"Yui," I sigh. "I'm going to tell you something, but I don't want you to be afraid of me. Please, don't run away if I tell you." I stare at her for an answer.

"I won't." She nods her head.

"The truth is I am a demon called a Banshee. A female being who screeches, hurting the ears of any creature. Humans, vampires, you name it. That's why I've been talking in a low voice all this time. But the Mukami need my blood in order to become Adam. Once they become Adam, they will turn into something stronger than a vampire. Yet, I didn't want any of them to become Adam because I would end up being with them forever. . . They don't love me for who I am. . . They don't even care about me. All they want is my blood. . ."

"Oh, Eve. . . Why didn't you tell me?" Yui hugs me.

"Because I didn't want you to get involved. This was my battle and I had to fight it alone. And besides, he wouldn't want the project to become a failure. . ."

"He? Who's he?" Yui pulls away and gives me a worried look.

"My father. . . The Demon Lord. He, and somebody else, takes part in this project we have going. I have no say it in because I am merely just the daughter of a Demon King. I must follow and obey my father's commands or else I will be punished. . ."

"Am I interrupting something?" Yui gasps when Reiji-san had appeared in the room. We both look at him with his arms folded over his chest.

"Reiji-kun! What are you doing here?" Yui asks him.

"There is something I need to discuss with her." Reiji-san then looks at me and says, "Come to the living room immediately please."

"Okay." I nod my head and get out of bed.

Yui and I go to the living room. Reiji--san is sitting in a chair with one leg crossed over the other. I take a seat in a chair across from him and Yui stands next to me. "Can you tell me what went on in that house with the other brothers?" Reiji-san asks me.

"Simple. They just wanted my blood to be awakened. I am called Eve for a reason, despite what my father has named me."

"Your father?" Reiji-san looks at me curiously.

"The Demon King, and I am his one and only daughter. A Banshee to be exact. I do not care who my mother was. My father is all I have in this life of mine. "I close my eyes a bit before opening them again.

"Yes, Shuu has mentioned that before. You told him you were a Banshee when you were offering your blood to him." He recalls before chuckling. "And they those brothers keep calling themselves Adam, right?"

"Yes. So, you know what's going on, don't you? And you know that they were once human, right?"

"Yes." Reiji-san smirks. "I am very well aware about their plan."

"I see. But, why are you interested in this project? Was there a reason why I was brought here by your youngest brother, Subaru-san?"

"How should I put this?" Reiji-san closes his eyes while holding his chin with one hand. "All of us seem to have grown quite attached to you. Ever since you came to us and told us about Yui's disappearance, all of us has been thinking about you. You bring. . . light into our dark hearts."

"Is that so?" I question, a bit confused by his words.

"I-I'm calm whenever you're near me. . ." Subaru-san appears while turning his head away, avoiding to make eye contact with me, which makes Yui gasps because of his appearance.

"And it's cold without your company." Shuu-san lies on another couch with his earphones in.

"I am grateful for being worried about by all of you. Especially you, Yui." I turn to her and stand up.

"Huh?" She blinks with confusion.

"You are the first human who isn't afraid of me, or runs away from me. You showed me nothing but kindness. I've actually considered you a friend." I smile at her with tears in my eyes. "So, I thank you."

"You're welcome, Eve. After all that you've done for me, I am very grateful." She smiles back.

"But. . ." I drop my smile and replace it with a frown. "You all shouldn't be careless. There is going to be a Lunar Eclipse. Which means your powers will decrease, and so will mine. You better hope nothing happens. Just because you brought me here to be safe from the brothers, doesn't mean that there will be in outcome."

"And you don't have a lot of time to choose your Adam." Reiji-san adds and I nod my head, saying that he's correct.

"If I do not find him by that time, my father will release his wrath. But not just on me. On everyone who's got involved in our plan. . . A fierce man who is feared by all demons and vampires. You should know because he made a deal with your father."

All vampire's eyes widen and some of them gasp. "Are you saying that-" I cut off Subaru-san and say,

"My father and Karlheinz has been working together to complete the project? Yes. They made a deal with each other years ago, and my blood is the key of The Awakening. I had no say in the matter, because as a daughter, I must obey my father's orders."

"And what can we do to help?" Shuu-san questions.

"You can't." I shake my head. "He will kill all of you if you are involved. My blood is special in this matter for the Mukami's awakening. I can't allow anyone to get involved. I already paid the price for it once."

"What the hell is that suppose to mean?" Subaru-san questions. I close my eyes once more and take off the designed collar that is wrapped around my neck. Once I remove it, Yui gasps the loudest as the brother stare at it with shock.

Many scars are lined around my neck, and some scars are visible where my throat is. "You're scars. . ." Kanato frowns.

"Daughter or not, my father still punishes me. This is what he does. . . He drags a knife across my neck, and sometimes around my neck, just so I can screech out like the Banshee that I am. Sometimes these are from punishments, and sometimes it was for to find Adam, so that the Mukami brothers can find me."

"That explains why you've talked in a low voice. If you were able to speak in a normal tone, it would sound like you're screeching, and it will be a signal for your father and those ex humans to come find you." Reiji-san says.

"Exactly." I put my designed collar back around my neck.

Later that night, everyone is probably in their own rooms and I am in Yui's room. She is already asleep and I am sitting on her bed while looking out the window.

'Father knows I'm here. . . He will come and punish me. . . I can't stay here.' I keep telling myself. At this rate, I won't be able to sleep. I'm worrying too much even though nothing has happened yet.

I leave the bedroom and enter into Reiji-san's studies because I can smell the scent of tea lingering form his room. I let myself in and look to see Reiji-san reading a book.

"I don't recall inviting you in." Reiji-san calls me out.

"I know, and I'm sorry. It's just that I couldn't sleep. . . And I was smelling a sweet aroma coming from this location. May I have some tea?"

"Of course. Have a seat." Surprisingly, he is polite about this. So, I take a seat in the chair and he makes tea. He sets the tea up in front of me and pours tea in it. Afterwards, he takes a seat across from me as he watches me drink my tea.

"It's delicious." I compliment.

"Why isn't that you can't sleep?" He asks me.

"After what we discussed earlier, it's been weighing me down. My father isn't somebody you shouldn't take so lightly. . ." I frown while setting my tea cup down. "I hate to admit it, but I am terrified of my father. . . He choses my fate."

"You almost talk like a human." He makes it sound like I'm boring him to death.

"I wasn't born yesterday." I giggle a bit. "Tell me, do you know what it's like to be so silent your entire life? Watching things go by without having to get a word in? It's truly a pain. At times like these, all I want to do is bring pain into others, so they can feel my pain."

"And would be the purpose for it?"

"What would be the purpose of taking Yui's blood?" I snap back, giving him a death stare. "Not only to satisfy your taste, but just to see the pain on her face, right? Looks like we are quite alike."

Reiji glares at me a bit, knowing that I'm right. I smirk and suddenly take out a knife, then slit my wrist. Blood drops into the tea cup while Reiji is looking at me with wide eyes.

"Unlike you, I don't die from blood loss or anything like that. I can only be killed with an object that is made to kill demons. But, for you, however, you will die from such a severe attack. But, I can't stand it. . . I love the sight of blood, and you can't stand control yourself when you see the dark red liquid. Come, have a taste."

"Why?" He tries to resist.

"You're hungry, aren't you? It's been so long since you've tasted Yui's blood. But she is asleep right now, and I don't want anybody waking her. She is my friend. So I am allowing you to have a drink."

Reiji-san is hesitant at first, but stands out his chair and walks over to me, then taking my wrist, and drinking my blood. His eyes become wide again before they softly close. He's like a pet when give him something to eat. So obedient and loyal in a way.

When Reiji-san pulls away and looks at me, then leans up and places a kiss on my forehead, making my eyes widen. I never earned a kiss from anybody else before.

"Reiji-san?" I question his actions.

"Your blood is really special, Eve." He smirks at me and then kisses my knuckles. "It seems like we can't let you go. . ."

We? Does he mean Subaru-san and Shuu-san? They haven't been acting like themselves lately. What's that emotion that makes you have butterflies in your stomach? . . . All 3 of them are both handsome and interesting.

I think I'm starting to develop feelings for those brothers. . .
