Chapter 8
Even nature seemed depressed.
Rain poured down from the skies, creating puddles across the sidewalk, drops splashing against his black boots. Verona had left that morning, leaving for Eve to take the bus.
Groups huddled beneath the umbrellas, chattering amongst themselves, squealing once in awhile when a car passed by and spraying their pretty shoes.
A soft sigh left his lips as he gripped his black umbrella, making sure the rain drops didn't fall on the feminine clothes that Verona had left for him inside a box.
"You need more than I do."
Colorful clothes carefully folded up, a makeup bag tucked to the side.
His fingers touched his lips. Pink gloss tainted them, provided a strawberry taste to his tongue, a soft smile appearing. Verona had always enjoyed the tangy taste of fresh strawberries.
Eve tugged his tote bag, his eyes peering through his heavy lashes as he searched for the yellow bus, instead, he watched a sleek black car slow down in front of him.
"Need a lift?" Adam said from the car, his blue eyes twinkling.
Eve blinked but shifted towards the open door, "You know I take the school bus."
Adam chuckled, "I know but it sucks, plus you can show where the school's at."
Eve glanced at the others, their wide eyes looking at the shiny black Bentley. Without further thought, he closed his umbrella and entered the cool interior.
"How is it that you have this car?" Eve said, his eyes wide.
Adam chuckled, "It's my brother's, he loaned it to me since I couldn't ride my bike."
"Oh," Eve murmured, turning his gaze to the road ahead.
Silence filled the car, the low hum of the rain mixing in with the mellow voice Steven Tyler.
"So do you have a plan?" Adam said after awhile, his blue eyes darted towards Eve.
Eve's brows furrowed, "Plan?"
Adam's car screeched to a halt, Eve yelped, rubbing his chest where the seatbelt had strained against it, "Adam!"
Adam looked at him, "Eve," he said his voice even, "Are you telling me you don't have a plan and you were going to make up everything as you go?"
Eve bit his lip, "Well Verona was calling the shots but since she moved..."
Adam sighed and ran his hand down his face, "Right. That means we're going to form our own plan," he muttered under his breath, turning the car towards the school's parking lot.
Eve kept his gaze on his fingers, his thumb running over the handle of his umbrella, "I'm sorry," he whispered.
A warm hand rested on his, "Don't be. You're in love," Adam spoke, "And you need someone to help you. Now come on. I already have an idea to start my first day of school."

Everyone fawned over Adam and yet he seemed oblivious to the growing attraction around him.
Eve bit his lip, stirring the strange goop that the school dared to call lunch.
"He's coming," Adam whispered, taking a sip of his coke.
Eve's eyes drifted upwards, Evan's muscular form coming into view. Eve felt his heart elate but it quickly deflated when Jennifer appeared by his side, fingers latched onto his arm.
"Hey Eve!" Evan said, a grin on his lips, "Did you have fun last night?" Eve flushed wanting to respond but Adam beat him to it.
"Yeah. The party was cool," he said, pulling Eve close to him.
Evan's brows furrowed, "Aren't you that guy from last night?"
Adam nodded, "Yeah. Guess I'm coming here too."
Evan frowned before replacing with a smile, "Welcome to the school man."
Eve watched as Jennifer shifted close, her body nearly pressing between Evan and Adam, "You know, if you need anything you can always come to me," she said with a wink.
Eve could feel his mouth slack. How dare she? Flirting with another guy in front of her boyfriend?
Eve watched Adam grin, "I'll take you up on that."
Eve looked at Evan, the young man's reaction hiding behind an emotionless mask.
"Evan?" Eve said, his voice high as he offered a tentative smile, "Have you eaten yet?" Evan chuckled, ignoring Jennifer who seemed to dislike have Eve speaking with Evan.
"I'll grab some off that burger place across the street. School food tastes gross," he said, eyeing the food that Eve was stirring, "Want to come? My treat."
Eve glanced at Adam who was too busy chatting up Jennifer.
"Do you think your girlfriend will mind?" he spoke, nibbling his glossed lip.
Evan shook his head, "She's not my girlfriend," his eyes slid over to Adam, "What about your boyfriend?"
Eve blushed, "He is not my boyfriend."
Evan grinned, "Good. Come on then, let's get some decent lunch."

"What would your girlfriend think of me being here?" Eve said, stirring his fry in a puddle of ketchup.
Evan took a sip of his soda, "Well, she really isn't my girlfriend. It's always been an on and off thing. She's always eyeing up other guys, can't stick to one."
Eve tilted his head, "Why do you always go back to her then?"
"Well, isn't it how high school society works? The popular and the beautiful become boyfriends and girlfriends?"
Eve blinked, watching Evan's shoulders slump down. There was something strange about the young man that made him want to peel away the protective walls that he had seemed to put up. Why was it that Evans wanted to go out with the same woman even she flirted right in front of him?
Eve chewed thoughtfully on his chicken nugget before speaking after he swallowed, "Society makes rules," he murmured, "But sometimes they're meant to be broken, if they weren't, we'd just be mindless drones in a black in white world."
Evan smiled, "You know what Eve? You're a smart girl and I like that about you."
Eve blinked for a moment in confusion before it finally dawned on him. In Evan's eyes, he was still a girl.
Eve flashed a slight smile, "Thanks Evan."
Evan grinned, "No problem. What do you say we get back to school?"
Eve nodded, taking a last sip of his Sprite.
Evan still saw him as a friendly girl, but soon with Adam's help, perhaps then Evan would see him under a different light.
