93. Promises and Lies
Promises we can't keep,
The lies we cannot tell;
Both to a side we sweep,
And we do it so well.
They're unlike, you'd agree,
Different you would deem;
But the thing is, you see,
They are not what they seem.
A promise is a lie,
When it's broken with ease;
That you cannot deny,
Try as hard as you please.
And a lie's a promise,
When it gives needy hope;
If all in life's amiss,
A fib can help them cope.
Forgotten words cut deep,
In silence sorrows swell;
Promises you can't keep,
And lies you cannot tell.
