64. Seven Deadly Sins
Know the seven deadly sins,
And how, against us, each wins.
The first ad foremost is pride,
Takes one on a giddy ride.
And when one wants more than need,
It is dominance of greed.
Lost in the dense fogs of wrath,
No reason then man has hath.
In resentment set aflame,
That is surely envy's game.
Wish and want, to have you must,
That rapacious thirst is lust.
Feasting with no end in sight,
That is Gluttony's delight.
And finally then comes sloth,
The last and least of the lot.
For each of the deadly sins,
With a tiny step begins.
This is based on the song of the same name, sung by Bob Dylan as part of the group ' The Travelling Wilburys Vol 3. He does not sing about the Biblical sins but rather what he considers as sins committed against him by the woman(?) he loves. I did not like the song much, but picked it for I had earlier written two poems (for two different contests) on two of the sins and had always wanted to write on the remaining five. This prompt allowed me to write out an introduction of sorts for the seven deadly sins. I hope to complete the five pending ones in time for the 100 poem challenge deadline.
